I would love to not be in loads of debt for my PhD but I didn’t get funding so 🤷‍♀️ trying to prevent people without the financial means from doing a PhD is not the win you think it is. Incredibly privileged and exclusive perspective.

Annual advice to PhD applicants: Do not go into debt for a PhD. It doesn't matter how perfectly the program fits, how amazing the faculty are, how passionate you feel. Unless you're independently wealthy, you don't go without full funding. This is a hill I will die on.

So yesterday I ran my first 10k race and I finished it! Since last Thursday, I’ve been ill with a really nasty super cold thingy so I wasn’t able to do it in the best possible time but considering I felt so ill, I’m just glad that I finished it and I also didn’t have to walk!
