In honor of GLADIATOR 2, the recent HUNGER GAMES announcement, and my past coming back to haunt me in the form of Christofascism, here’s a thing I wrote during my run as Film Executive at Messiah College. It was controversial at the time (I never learn).

Is there a way to use “old Google”? I don’t want to generate an AI search and contribute to ecological devastation every time I look something up. And the info that’s shoved at the top is often incomplete or inaccurate. Can I opt out?

@hyper_gloss_ I never opted in, it just shows up as roughly the top third of the page with lists of compiled “answers” instead of links to sources themselves and a disclaimer that it’s experimental… basically “this is a test, disregard” (except how many people will never know the difference?)

@ljupc0 I think Perplexity is the best in terms of the “future” of search, improving on its usefulness, UX, and info. But it’s still got all the problems of an AI, so I try to use it very sparingly (if at all). The first one that addresses energy and IP ethically will get my queries.

@FogTrials97770 So if this article doesn’t answer your specific questions to your satisfaction, you can use it as a starting point to either fact check or do further research. It’s not a contestable fact that AI drains energy and water from the existing public supply.

@teroterotero This is still wild to me. Nearly a year of monthly inspections with noncompliance. This is a failure of leadership and company culture. The first step should have been a deep clean and mandatory retraining on safety standards. Failure in labeling? That’s day 1 food safety stuff.

@hannahcrileyy I saw the same one. The idea that something as American as the film industry would be gutted the way everything else has is… really depressing and anxiety-inducing frankly. Besides being so many people’s livelihood, it’s a massive goodwill generator for us. Nothing’s sacred.

@narendra483 @spectatorindex Fuel runs the desalination machines for water, gas for stoves, and generators at hospitals and homes. The electrical grid is shut off. Fuel is also for the trucks that need to relay the aid north, so any supplies that come through at Rafah stays there if the trucks have no fuel.

It cant be overstated. This began in 1973 w the Heritage Foundation — a conservative think tank now responsible for the Christian culture wars. They introduced the first Mandate for Leadership in 1981, of which the Reagan admin implemented 60% in YEAR ONE. It’s not an accident.
