Depeche Mode is a huge influence on Linkin Park's music. Some of the songs with notable influence from the group includes Crawling, Numb, Heavy, Breaking The Habit, The Catalyst, In Pieces and Pushing Me Away. We're so saddened by the news today. Rest in peace Andy Fletcher.
Give Me Your Name is the only Dead By Sunrise song the band never performed live because of how personal it is to
@ChesterBe
. The song was written for his wedding with
@TalindaB
on December 31, 2005.
Mike says A Line In The Sand is one of his favorite songs off of The Hunting Party because he feels that it encapsulates Linkin Park in just one song. The introductory verse was actually written back when the band was working on A Thousand Suns.
The verse lyrics on Easier To Run emerged from a free-writing exercise by
@ChesterBe
, written without any music.
@mikeshinoda
and Don Gilmore liked them and decided to incorporate those lyrics into this song. According to Mike, the song is about escapism.
Upon release, Rob Bourdon's drum playing on Easier To Run was highly praised by other members of
@linkinpark
. Despite this,
@mikeshinoda
said it's the band's least favorite song as a collective because they think the song is melodramatic.
We are happy to announce that the Hybrid Theory song pages are complete! Ahead of Linkin Park's
#HybridTheory20

Burn It Down is about the celebrity culture on which a musician or actor is popular in one minute and in the next everybody's attacking that person.
@mikeshinoda
says
@linkinpark
actually lived through that as a band.
While promoting A Thousand Suns,
@ChesterBe
said every album has a song he immediately regrets recording because of how hard it will be to perform it live. Blackout was the song. He also stated it was the hardest to write and one of the most fun to record.
Update: "Looking For An Answer". Added Mike's recent quote where he says the song won't be released, and said that the studio version made the rest of Linkin Park uncomfortable.
.
@AvrilLavigne

@linkinpark
during the broadcast of their Rock am Ring 2004 concert.
Her band performed Faint during her The Best Damn Tour in Europe in 2008.
Not Alone was started during the Minutes To Midnight sessions and left in a "semi-finished form".
@linkinpark
revisited the song in 2010, wrote entirely new lyrics and re-mixed the song within 24 hours for the Download To Donate For Haiti compilation.
Foreword was
@mikeshinoda
's first attempt at Foley work. He got frustrated with a CD burner in the studio and recorded himself beating it with a baseball bat on a metal table. The resulting noises were used as an intro to Meteora.
Hit The Floor was an attempt to make a heavy song with a hip hop bounce.
@linkinpark
tried numerous singing chorus before
@ChesterBe
came up with the screaming hook. The song is about people who look down on other people and step on them to get to the top.
Blackbirds was one of 17 songs finished for Minutes To Midnight and one of 6 of these songs to which David Campbell contributed strings. It was released in 2010 on Linkin Park's 8-bit Rebellion! game and later as a bonus track on A Thousand Suns.
Morning After was one of the first songs written by
@ChesterBe
when he learned how to play guitar. When his first band heard the song they made fun of him, but it remained stuck in his head for 14 years, making him feel it might be a good song to record.
The video for Waiting For The End was converted into full 3D by
@PassmoreLab
and earned
@linkinpark
and PassmoreLab numerous awards and praise at 3D film festivals worldwide. This 3D version was never released to the general public.
For the 2014 edition of
@DownloadFest
,
@linkinpark
was asked to perform Hybrid Theory in full in celebration of the upcoming 15th anniversary of the album. A recording of this portion of the set was released for fans who pre-ordered The Hunting Party. )
While working on Meteora,
@linkinpark
wrote 80 different demos, trashed 40, recorded drums for 18 and finished 15 songs before picking the 12 that made the album.
The music on Leave Out All The Rest remained virtually the same as the original demo. The lyrics, however, went through over 30 variations.
@ChesterBe
says it's supposed to feel like an apology letter, asking people to remember the good things, not the bad
Dead By Sunrise,
@ChesterBe
's side project, played three songs in the first encore of
@linkinpark
's set at six shows in 2009. This was
@mikeshinoda
's idea to promote the project.
Chester invited Korean band PIA (피아) to tour in the US after they opened for Linkin Park in Seoul in 2003. The tour never happened because of South Korea's mandatory military service, but PIA played with Linkin Park again during their Asia Tour in 2004.
Lift Off from
@mikeshinoda
's Post Traumatic album was a song created in Berlin with
@machinegunkelly
during the Linkin Park tour in 2017 and was originally intended to be a
@fortminor
song.
Update: "Given Up". Mike recently told the story of how the bridge scream was recorded, which is awesome. Of course we added it. Chester originally screamed so long, it went into the chorus of the song so Mike had to rework the song around the scream.
For Meteora,
@linkinpark
had a whole art day where
@joehahnLP
,
@mikeshinoda
, Frank Maddocks and graffiti artist Delta spraypainted and painted gigantic walls to depict where the album was at on that particular day. The album cover is a picture of Delta.
Thank you to
@mikeshinoda
for annotating the Post Traumatic songs on Genius & explaining the songs in Kerrang.
We have updated the Post Traumatic EP pages on Linkinpedia with all of this new information.
We have now reached ONE HUNDRED verifiable sources on our "Xero" page, the most of any website on the Internet for information on Linkin Park's beginnings.
After covering the
@Adele

@itunesfestival

@linkinpark
if they could play the song at the 2011 edition of the festival and the band obliged. A recording was released on the iTunes Festival EP. )
Keys To The Kingdom originally had a clip of a boy saying "a cold doesn't bother me anyway" (from Frozen) but due to copyright issues with Disney, they replaced it with a boy saying "I'm not allowed to say certain things" in reference to the original clip.
Growing up,
@ChesterBe
's favorite band was
@WeAreMinistry
. He developed his distinctive singing style by mimicing Al Jourgensen's highly effected vocals the best he could until it didn't hurt anymore, which he admits was the wrong way.
Yesterday on his stream,
@mikeshinoda
discussed and the community effort behind it by Linkin Park fans. Thank you all for the support and the hard work by the LP family in keeping us going! :)
.
@phoenixlp
once jokingly edited his own Wikipedia page to state that he was a certified master BBQer and this "fact" started showing up in interviews.
Mike was one of the people asked to do rap vocals on
@evanescence
's Bring Me To Life because Wind-Up refused to release the song without a male vocalist. Chester advised Amy Lee to do whatever she wanted and not listen to the label, but they eventually got Paul McCoy on the song.
After Brad wrote the original riff for Points Of Authority,
@mikeshinoda
decided to cut it up into different pieces and re-arrange them. Brad had to learn his own part from the computer.
Place To Start, Make It Up As I Go and Running From My Shadow were demos from One More Light that
@mikeshinoda
finished for his Post Traumatic album. Because of this, Rob is credited for percussion on Place To Start and Brad is credited for the other two.
Healing Foot from
#Meteora20
had been a holy grail in the
@linkinpark
community since a clip of Rob recording drums for the song appeared in The Making Of Meteora. It was finally released as an exclusive reward to the Linkin Park Hunt in the Marbleverse.
During the LPTV episode "The Art of Meteora", Frank Maddocks shows an early version of the album cover in red color. In 2019,
@linkinpark
released Meteora merch with the same photo in red.
.
@mikeshinoda
did all the beats for Session, getting the song 85% done. The majority was created in Pro Tools in the back of
@linkinpark
's tour bus. Over a year later
@BradDelson
,
@joehahnLP
and
@phoenixlp
came in and added their own elements to the song .

's addiction. He broke down while recording vocals.
In 2004

During the Wantagh show of Projekt Revolution 2004,

@ChesterBe
plays a character named Evan. He had always been a huge fan of the franchise and when Mark Burg became neighbours to one of his bandmates, Chester got invited to be part of the film.
One title from the Meteora sessions remains a mystery: "Nocturnal". It was first mentioned by
@mikeshinoda
in an interview to

along with BTH and Shifter when describing the eclectic nature of the album. It's unknown if it became a song on the album.
The first demo for My December was written in Chicago, inside the band's RV. Chester jokingly sang "Christmas time is a good time to die" in the chorus.
Until It's Gone was originally meant for the fourth installment of the live-action Transformers film series, Transformers: Age Of Extinction, but Michael Bay picked Imagine Dragons' submission instead.
On June 24, 1998,
@linkinpark
(as Xero) played inside a store called
@BacksideBurbank
in Burbank, CA. The show was filmed by the store, but has since been misplaced and lost.
Due to censorship, there are four different cuts of the Shadow Of The Day video which drastically change the perception of the narrative.
@joehahnLP
's original "Director's Cut" was released exclusively through his LPNetwork profile and never aired anywhere
In 2013
@linkinpark
held a t-shirt design contest for Castle Of Glass. The band liked the winner (
@Toolkit04
) so much that he was later invited to create the artwork for LP Underground XIII.
Being a fan of football / soccer,
@phoenixlp
promised to play a show in Brazil for every goal they scored in a match against the US.
@linkinpark
played 4 shows in Brazil that year.
Heavy was written in collaboration with
@juliamichaels
and

who was introduced to them by
@zanelowe
.
.
@joehahnLP
wrote the BTH treatment as a live-action, but upon meeting the animators at GDH (led by Kazuto Nakazawa), he decided an animation would be more exciting. Before returning to Japan, Nakazawa sketched the band as they performed in December 2003.
Numb was built around the intro hook and came together almost effortlessly just one week before
@linkinpark
entered
@NRGRecording
to begin recording. According to
@mikeshinoda
, the song was picked to end Meteora because it sums up the album.
After
@ChesterBe
broke his ankle in 2015 causing
@linkinpark
to cancel The Hunting Party North American Tour, the band released an acoustic version of Final Masquerade for free to thank fans for their support.
When questioned why there were no "In My Remains" remixes on Recharged,
@mikeshinoda
said the band did receive remixes of the song, but none of them were great.
Nobody's Listening was described as a hip-hop style track that felt detached from the sound of Meteora, but once the vocals were recorded, they connected the song to the rest of the album. The instrumental features a shakuachi flute played by
@zasloffski
.
New page: "Fighting Myself" - brand new Linkin Park track and here's everything Mike said about the song. Truly a song that was "lost" and Mike built the chorus, bridge, and ending Chester vocals for us to have a full song!
On the last show of the Back To School Tour, Linkin Park played a prank on
@deftones
by switching their water for vodka. Later in the day
@mikeshinoda
and
@ChesterBe
came out on stage while they played Headup. This is documented on the Frat Party DVD.
Update: "Unreleased Songs List" -> "Meteora Remixes." It does appear the band did do at least a few Meteora remixes in 2003, but Mike didn't want to do another full-length remix CD at the time - too much work. Rob confirmed years later a few do exist.
The beat for Papercut was inspired by the
@deftones
song Around The Fur. The beat for Around The Fur is actually present on
@joehahnLP
's vinyl from the Hybrid Theory era titled Tasty Gas Station Breaks From The Orient.
.
@mikeshinoda

Chester proposed to his first wife Samantha at a
@therealgreydaze
show while the band played the Dramarama cover Anything, Anything.
@ChesterBe
sang the line "marry me, marry me, marry me" directed to her.
The titles "Broken Foot" and "Healing Foot" are a reference to when
@BradDelson
stormed offstage and kicked a large steel door after becoming very mad at the technical problems he had during the Chula Vista 2001 show. He had to wear a cast for 1 month.
Powerless was started during the A Thousand Suns sessions under the title Tinfoil. It was a "6-minute epic" that was chopped down for Living Things. The live drums were added on the last day of recording.

The success of Remember The Name in the sports world inspired the group to create a new video for the song in 2006 with clips of fans practicing sports. One of the people picked for the video is
@lorenzoerr
, years before he started working for
@linkinpark
.

The Grammy 2006 performance was inspired by Danger Mouse's The Grey Album, a mash-up of Jay-Z's The Black Album and The Beatles' White Album.
@mikeshinoda
and
@BradDelson
put the song together in Mike's house before taking it to
@sc
and
@PaulMcCartney
.
While helping
@JulienK
with their debut album Death To Analog,
@ChesterBe
was so excited with the music they were making that he wanted to join the band. Instead,
@rynsk
suggested they'd start a new band with Chester, giving birth to Dead By Sunrise.
Update: "Lost." Added Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson's commentary about the song, added the "Thoughts That Take Away My Pride" story from the Discord Q&A, and added Mike's music video explanation. Huge page!
