This is a user dependent contraceptive method that is non-invasive and non-hormonal
#FAMTaughtMe
- ~200 yrs ago white male doctors created the myth that larger labia was symbolic of sexual deviance
- modern forms of this mythology persist from surgeons
- obgyns & cosmetic surgeons both don’t understand the nerves& vasculature of the vulva, can cause permanent damage
Fertility Sign 1: Cervical Fluid
In a typical cycle, after menstruation estrogen begins to rise. This estrogen sends instructions to both the ovary to finish maturing an egg, AND to the cervix, to make cervical fluid.
There’s 3 sets of tests!
- cervical fluid selects the best sperm and holds back the lesser quality ones (100 million down to 250)
- the egg releases chemoattractants for about 25 of those to select 1
- the uterine wall can detect abnormalities & choose not to allow attachment
PSA: One of the categories of peak fertility fluid is literally called watery, yes it will run down your legs, and it’s totally normal.
You do not need to see a doctor if you notice watery fluid lol
I don’t wear underwear to the gym ever and people always ask ‘where does your discharge go, does it go down your leg’ ??? like BFFR. if yours is running down your leg you gotta see a doctor ASAP

BIRTH CONTROL & WEIGHT GAIN.
Let's talk about it ⬇️
How it happens, why it happens, why you'll be told it isn't happening, and how fatphobia negatively affects people who menstruate
❌
Eliminating carbs increases cortisol, slows thyroid, and causes insomnia, constipation, and hair loss.
We need carbohydrates to ovulate.
It takes extra cellular energy to do menstrual WORK!
There is a human tissue that builds itself up and breaks itself down every ~28 days using non-scarring wound healing and instead of studying that and learning everything we can about it we think it's gross and look for other less relevant models to understand wound healing.
This is incorrect. Sperm can live inside a CERVIX (cervical crypts) for up to 5 days leading up to ovulation. The vaginal environment is inhospitable to sperm survival.
A Guide to Vaginal pH
#FAMTaughtMe
Our reproductive system is built to create and sustain varying pH levels throughout the cycle.
We do not have "a vaginal pH" -- we have a cycling of vaginal pH.
It’s a shame that so many know and mention the fact that sperm can live inside the body for several days leading up to ovulation, but we are never told *how*
The how is via cervical fluid. Understanding your cervical fluid is the major key to understanding when you’re fertile.
The fact that so many people (women & men) don’t know you can only get pregnant a few days out of each month (during ovulation) is troubling. These are basic facts people need to know to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Sex education has failed when there’s 800K abortions a year.
What Is The Immuno-Menstrual Axis?
The immuno-menstrual axis describes the communication and interrelationship between the immune system and the menstrual cycle.
#FAMTaughtMe
If you study the anthropology of menstruation this is definitely not true. The infradian (menstrual-hormonal) rhythm has been acknowledged and integrated into many cultures. It has nothing to do with strength vs weakness or sickness vs health. It’s culturally normal to cycle rest
This is a sign of extreme ill health in a woman, if she becomes physically debilitated by her period. Even before the plague of feminism, women worked very hard throughout the month on a variety of chores. Painful periods indicate hormone dysfunction and crap nutrition.

Nancy King Reame actually tested tampon absorbency in the 80s with venous blood, she submitted her final report in 1983, but it remained confidential for years.
She's the reason why we know that it's the tampon manufacturers who refused to test blood at her request!
THREAD 🧵
‘Scientists check the absorbency of period products with blood for the first time’
No, that is not a study from the 70s, 80s this is from a study released this month. Until this study, scientists checked the absorbency of period products with saline solution…SALINE.
Always menstrual pads were tested and found to contain several chemicals of concern, including:
•Styrene: carcinogen
•Chloromethane: reproductive toxicant
•Chloroethane: carcinogen
•Chloroform: carcinogen, reproductive toxicant, neurotoxin
•Acetone: irritant
Menstrual scientists have a hunch.
Full moon > archetypically associated with the fertile window > light at night disturbs sleep > opportunity to have fertile sex
The lunar cycle is in our evolution.
It’s scientifically proven that people sleep less during the Full Moon and scientists are unaware of why that exactly happens. Yet people still think there’s no correlation of the cosmic / lunar cycles and our internal cycles, which is literally how astrology works.
Pregnancy is NOT possible on every day of your menstrual cycle.
It’s only possible during days when the cervix is open and producing cervical fluid!
In a typical cycle, the fertile window is 6-9 days long.
Menstrual Cycle in traditional Chinese medicine
📍Short cycles may be the result of Spleen Qi deficiency or of Heat in the Blood.
📍Long cycles, where the cycle lasts 40–50 days, may be caused by Blood deficiency, a cold Uterus, Kidney Yang deficiency or by Qi stagnation.

Patriarchal evolutionary science is perplexed by menopause
UTERUS DIVERSITY
🍐 The uterus is typically pear shaped, hollow, and slightly wider at the top than on the bottom. But for about 4% of people, the uterus may be shaped differently. Here are some examples of uterus diversity!
If you’re following your infradian rhythm of your menstrual cycle then you probably noticed you’re also changing with the seasons. More darkness will encourage more rest. And rest is important for regulating your ovarian hormones, stabilizing cortisol, and insulin sensitivity.
- male preference and porn are likely used as cultural scapegoats to cover for the deeply imbedded misogyny present in gynecology, obstetrics, and cosmetic surgery
The mental clarity that comes from bleeding if you know how to use the psychological power of your hormones… it actually makes you feel elevated, relaxed, clear headed, and able to reflect while looking ahead.
Patriarchal myths about conception have molded our understanding of
#reproduction
and have reinforced gendered notions of female passivity and male agency
Let's break it down.
Myth
#2
: The fastest sperm combine with the egg
Fertility awareness is a secular, scientific method of determining the small window in which a person is fertile each menstrual cycle.
It involves charting daily changes to the body on a graph, which gives us a window into our fertility, our hormones, and our health.
- the labia minora are important for sexual function. labia minora “reductions” may result in total amputation and severing of the nerve supply to the clitoris. this not only causes sexual dysfunction but UTIs and other complications. It deserves serious scrutiny
The Effects of the Menstrual Cycle on Brain Structure
I've been wanting to make a series of posts on different aspects of how the menstrual cycle affects the brain.
This is a huge topic! So let's start with brain structure.

If you're using hormonal contraceptives, the bleeding you're experiencing is called breakthrough bleeding, not menstruation.
Menstruation is the result of an ovulation that occurred ~12-16 days before.
We need to talk about abolishing gynecology not venerating it as the reason for our success as a species. Way off base here, especially during such a vicious menstrual and maternal crisis.
Stop assigning the successes of traditional midwifery to racist gynecology
This isn't your regular anatomy book!
Let's take a look at how THE BODY LITERACY COLORING BOOK & VISUAL READER deal with representing parts of the body we don't normally see...
#BodyLiteracy
LABIA DIVERSITY IS BEAUTIFUL ‼️‼️‼️
🔅 labia are the vulva lips - the labia majora are the fleshy outer lips and the labia minora are the inner lips that lead to the vestibule/urethra/vaginal opening
"Period shaming is a consequence of the social construction of menstruation as an undesirable bodily event... using euphemisms to discuss menstruation hides the shame of periods and the "offensive feelings associated with it""
The way that various entities and persons in the medical and pharma industries stereotype and deliberately sabotage Black women’s fertility is racist as hell.
Polycystic ovaries are not ovarian cysts.
Polycystic ovaries are underdeveloped but normal (painless) ovarian follicles, whose cell walls are thickened by the presence of androgens, preventing ovulation.
Ovarian cysts are an overdeveloped follicle that can burst & cause pain.
Fertility Sign 2: Cervical Position
Cervical position changes are also directed by estrogen.
The cervix baseline during infertile phases is low, hard to the touch, and closed
The cervix during the fertile window rises higher in the vaginal canal, is soft to the touch, & opens
- evidence shows that (studied in a heterosexual context) men don’t prefer smaller labia or even care about vulva diversity
- evidence shows that beauty standards in porn are not responsible and that many successful porn actors have labia minora larger than their labia majora
It’s interesting that the concept of egg freezing is an inversion of freezing sperm, but ignores the differences in our physiology such as the way the menstrual cycle prepares new follicles for ovulation, egg available for a short time, & eggs are kept fully inside the warm body
I find the “freeze your eggs just in case” discourse interesting because… egg freezing doesn’t work very well? Feels like young, professional women are being encouraged to, uh… put all their eggs in one very expensive and leaky basket
ALL CERVICAL FLUID IS POTENTIALLY FERTILE.
If you are pre-ovulatory, and you see any kind of fluid, you are currently fertile. This is because cervical fluid is *required* for sperm to survive in the vaginal canal.
We use the categories to gauge how close to ovulation you are.
There’s a difference between PCOS cure and PCOS reversal
A cure = no management needed to maintain homeostasis
A reversal = finding a lifelong management regimen that improves the underlying factors which return if stopped
Management = mid process w finding the right strategy

PSA: Labia are the outer and inner folds of the vulva. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Inner labia may stick out through the outer labia in about half the population. There is no “excessively developed” (“hypertrophic”) labia, only normal human variation.

The first day you observe cervical fluid in the cycle is considered the beginning of the fertile window.
Many of us have been taught about 'vaginal discharge' and have never been told that we have a cycling of cervical fluid that is a major indicator of our fertility status.
⚠️ PCOS makes you prone to leptin resistance
When leptin resistant, the brain thinks you’re starving & tells the body to store more fat
PCOS is hijacking the body’s natural hunger mechanisms creating a cycle of insulin resistance, leptin resistance, & androgen excess

Intro to Fertility Awareness Method🌡️📈💧🩸
[Sympto-Thermal Method]
This is a user dependent contraceptive method that is non-invasive and non-hormonal
#FAMTaughtMe
Cervical fluid is our most reliable diagnostic fertility sign. When we feel cervical fluid and vaginal sensation, we have a good indication that we are currently fertile. The fertility window with cervical fluid is typically around 6 days.
#Perimenopause
is a critical window for health.
This part of menstrual life is an unfolding of events, a transition between your menstrual years into the graduated phase of life that is
#menopause
.
If its irresponsible to talk about body literacy, then you're arguing that the responsible thing to do is to conceal this information.
It's an inherently misogynist viewpoint to suggest concealing the menstrual cycle and the basic knowledge on how it works is the answer here.
This is how.
Progesterone and estrogen are hormones that regulate our mental state. Each menstrual cycle, these hormones drop to baseline.
In pregnancy you make WAY WAY more of these hormones than a typical cycle. And then birth is triggered by a more intense and rapid drop.
"Fertility Awareness Method" is an umbrella term for several different categories of methods.
It's important to note that we only wish to share the most accurate scientific knowledge, which is why we use the *Sympo-Thermal Method* It is the most reliable and most effective.
MENSTRUAL MIGRAINES ⚡️
What are
#migraines
, and what specifically is a menstrual migraine?
How can we work to decrease the severity and frequency of migraines?
#FAMTaughtMe
The first thing to establish is whether you have experienced any identifiable fluid that day [Yes/No]
If no, you consider this a dry, infertile day.
If yes, attempt to categorize that fluid
- Sticky/Tacky
- Creamy/Lotiony
- Wet/Watery/Slippery
- Stretchy/Egg-white
Body literacy easily identifies estrogen dominance, two ways. No blood test necessary.
- Chart your daily cervical secretions (wipe test, underwear observations, vaginal sensation)
- Measure/estimate your blood loss with menstrual cup or # of products used. Note color & clots
@PutrinoLab
How do I find this out? What tests would show? I went to an endo to try to understand what might be happening with my sex hormones with LC and was belittled for even asking about it.
100% And this extends to people with prediabetic conditions like
#PCOS
, insulin resistance, thyroid and adrenal problems. It’s very difficult to navigate individual reversal of these issues when these social conditions exist.
Researchers who study Type 2 diabetes have reached a stark conclusion: There is no device or drug powerful enough to counter the effects of poverty, pollution, stress, a broken food system, cities that aren't walkable, and inequitable access to healthcare.

It is impaired folliculogenesis that stalls ovulation in
#PCOS
(bc of high insulin & androgens). The outer layer of the follicle (theca) produces testosterone, thickens, stalling the follicles development process, resulting in multiple follicles on ovaries instead of ovulating
FSH causes these selected follicles to develop special granulosa cells. These cells surround the oocytes & their most important job is to begin secreting estrogen.
Unfortunately this is a common misnomer with the term PCOS.
Polycystic ovaries are not actually cysts.
They are regular ovarian follicles that are stalled by the presence of androgens preventing them from maturing to ovulation.
They do not cause pain.
@learnbodylit
Lol it literally is…break down the terms
Poly= many
Cystic= relating to cysts
Polycystic ovaries relate to multiple/many cysts on the ovaries
Ovarian= relating to ovaries
Ovarian cysts= cysts growing on OR in the ovaries.
Both can be painful. Both can be filled with fluid
