Joe refused to pay me more than $40K for my more-than-full-time role on his first campaign. My abuser (his campaign manager and my supervisor) refused to reimburse me for expenses. Even a decade ago, that meant living paycheck to paycheck. It was nearly impossible for me to quit.

I’ve spent tens of thousands of $ out of my own pocket over the last decade on mental health services & healthcare to deal with the impact of not only the original abuse, but of not being believed by Joe & the ppl around him when I tried to prevent other women from getting hurt.

I made the choice to come fwd in 2017 & we’ve made that choice again in the press right now. But these choices come with a cost.

@PPIndKentucky When I fainted outside PPINK in Sept 2015 bc of cont’d eating disorder symptoms that flared while being abused by Thomas on the campaign, I ended up in ER w/o insurance. To avoid massive hospital debt, I had to pay COBRA premiums for my old @INDems plan for retroactive coverage.

@PPIndKentucky I didn’t tell anyone at PPINK why I quit the campaign bc of Betty’s connection Joe, plus the significant overlap between PPINK funders and Hogsett donors. (I have no problem with that — pro-choice circles in a red state can be small — but it put me in a tough spot.)

I was never interviewed for any “investigation,” either. So, according to the mayor, he disciplined Thomas in Oct 2017 after hearing from me in May. Without knowing details from me about what happened. Without even understanding what kind of abuse I was trying to report.

Emails with Thomas from the one time I attempted to get reimbursed for an @indymayorjoe campaign expense. It was one of those $10 “Open for Service” decals folks were posting when statehouse Rs were fighting for RFRA, another anti-LGBTQIA+ policy).

A couple months later, I started a grants role w/ @PPIndKentucky . Betty Cockrum, ED at the time, was good friends w/ Joe, but I think what helped me get the job was another campaign contact putting in a good word. It paid $40K. Health insurance didn’t start for another 90 days.
