WATCH: A local woman who grew up on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border was missing a dish she ate nearly every morning — breakfast tacos. 🌮
So Ana-Maria Jaramillo set out to open La Tejana in D.C.
Just called my mom to let her know she doesn’t have bring breakfast tacos with her every time she visits me in DC now.
@latejanadc
has solved that problem.
These are the real deal. Gets my Texan seal of approval.
La Tejana!! Good people…I STAMPED every last taco I had at this spot!! Yep, the tacos at this quaint eatery in the Mt. Pleasant area of D.C. are EVERYTHING!! Did I mention that they are breakfast tacos? LET’S GO!!
We’ve been working with Chef
@DannyLeeDC
and his talented Team at
@ChikoFRC
on this Chopped Brisket Bao. The BBQ Hoisin Sauce infused with our own mix of spices it’s going to blow your mind. Available only 07/20 on all Chiko locations.
Tomorrow is our last pop-up at
@GrandDuchessDC
- our first ever pop-up there was in November of 2020 to celebrate Trumps loss to Biden. We called it “Orange Crushed” and made a special taco with crushed flaming hot Cheetos
Can we take some time to admire the simplicity of
@latejanadc
's menu? So many places just try to do too much. Just stick to a few things and do them excellently vs doing just okay versions of everything.
Taco Palenque's straightforward, satisfying fare stays true to its Mexican roots.
Our taco editor wishes many more Texans, and Americans, could enjoy it.
Serving up breakfast tacos on house made tortillas *and puro pinche vibras* thanks
@washingtonian
readers for choosing us as one of your favorite breakfast joints!!
Thanks
@LA_Hagen
and
@wcp
for the story about our breakfast taco journey (and coming out in 7 degree wind chill to buy tacos/document the pop-up).

--> DC!
Took a politics break this weekend to cover big news in the DC food scene
My first piece for
@wcp
:
@latejanadc
, a Texas-style breakfast taco pop-up, is opening a brick-and-mortar in Mount Pleasant. Coming this spring
there’s a special place in heaven for whomever makes
@latejanadc
’s refried beans. the el frijoljto taco is godtier (says me, eating my leftover tacos for dinner after also having it for lunch.)
@louiegrendon
I dream about Taco P’s botanas and ponchos at least once a week. I think the botana food culture in general that is offered in the 956 is something worth writing about for sure.
Incredible story of one of the most iconic restaurants to ever come out of the Valley. Honored to have been quoted in
@louiegrendon
latest piece for
@TexasMonthly
that brought me all the feels!!
#TacoPForever
We met many friends there, felt lucky to become a part of the Adams Morgan community, and witnessed lots hilarious things that only happen on 18th street. Sadly the time is coming to an end as we just signed on a brick and mortar in Mount Pleasant.
Grand Duchess is an absolute gem of a bar - utterly unpretentious and chill, a welcoming and safe space for everyone. The drinks and food hit every time. We will miss it and look forward to frequenting it as customers.
Michelin has added eight new DMV restaurants to its 2023 guide, including several D.C. spots covered by City Paper food critic Nevin Martell.
Which one is your favorite?
Bars in DC - and especially bars with limited outdoor space - have been through the absolute ringer. Please go out of your way to support them if you have the means. Winter x Omicron x Customer Fears (many absolutely justifiable) have been brutal to overcome, endless gut blows.
A few truths:
- Lone geniuses are myths. Every great idea is built on past ones and with the work of overlooked characters
- Follow principles, not people. Do the former, you’ll find wisdom. Do the latter, you’ll find a cult
- Breakfast tacos should be as ubiquitous as donuts
DC folks, treat yourself to some joy and stop by a
@latejanadc
pop-up when you get a chance!
their breakfast 🌮 and horchata w/ espresso gave me life this AM
Ever since then, we’ve popped up there almost every Sunday. Save a few weekends off for covid exposures and random things. Pre-vaccines, it was a safe-ish outdoor space where friends could crush a half dozen tacos over Joaquin’s legendary Negroni and commiserate over everything
Saturday In The Park! Popping up this Saturday 9/19 at B.Lin Catering (2410 T St NE) to offer to-go picnic breakfast taco situations for people to go enjoy in the arboretum. Pull up, cabrones!
I’m grateful for the people who fed me this year, which will certainly be the most trying one of our lives. Here are my favorite restaurants of 2020, but the list is misleading. Any restaurant that braved this mess deserves recognition, mine and yours.
