Northern Ireland’s first planned, integrated, co-ed, all-ability College, founded in 1981 by pioneering parents who chose to educate their children together.
Julia was a beautiful, strong and selfless young woman. She genuinely exuded our ethos and values in all she did and she will be sorely missed by her friends and our staff alike. We feel truly blessed to have known Julia, and we only wish it had been for longer ❤️
28 children walked through the door of Lagan College in 1981, set against a backdrop of political disagreement and social unrest. Their parents made a courageous decision to educate 14 Catholic and 14 Protestant children together. We will think of these 28 children today.

Lagan College’s Queer Straight Alliance being the First School in Northern Ireland to receive the Cara-Friend LGBTQI+ Inclusive School’s Charter Platinum Award.
It was amazing to celebrate with students and staff alongside official representatives from Cara-Friend and Citibank.
Lagan College is celebrating 40 years of educating all children together irrespective of their religious belief or none, ability level or cultural background. Thank you to everyone involved in integrated education since 1981.

Lagan College wishes to send its condolences to Mary Wilson’s family and friends. Mary was an inspirational woman and singer. She visited Lagan College to open our new school in Feb 2014. It was a personal concert that many of us will never forget. A true Motown and Lagan legend!
Today our Year 14s started their long goodbye to Lagan College with a walk up to Lisnabreeny Fort. Known as the Fairy Fort, it’s a good place to think over the last 7 years and be proud of all that’s been achieved. Well done, Year 14 in getting through this tough year!

Today Lagan College donated food to help those in need.
We donated £300 worth of foodstuffs via the Holywood Family Trust to the Bangor Storehouse and Baptist Church Foodbank Network.
Mrs McNamee would like to thank the Parents’ Council for their beautiful flowers they sent to congratulate her for receiving a MBE in the New Year Honors list.

It was lovely for some of our students to get the chance to meet local Director and Actor Ian McElhinney, aka ‘Granda Joe’ from Derry Girls when he called up last week to film in the school. Ian shared with us that he had trained as a teacher before pursuing acting.

Live on the BBC Good Morning Ulster radio show, our QSA talking about the excellent work done at Lagan College to improve all inclusivity. We are also the first school in Northern Ireland to be awarded the Platinum Level of the LGBTQIA+ Inclusive Schools Charter from Cara-friend.
We wish to pay tribute to actress, Roma Tomelty, who has sadly passed away. Roma made an amazing contribution to theatre and the arts in Northern Ireland and was fully supportive of Lagan College, as a parent. Her family is in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Belfast’s Lady Mayoress Kate Nicholl Kindly hosted our students in her wonderful parlour this week to celebrate 40 years of integrated education. Our talented Vice Principal, Miss Collins designed an amazing oak tree banner marking all 73 integrated schools since 1981.

On Saturday 30th July the QSA took to the streets of Belfast as part of the 30th Anniversary Pride celebrations. For the first time ever there was a United Schools at Pride banner that Sophie Browne in Year 13 helped to design. It was a vibrant day of love and inclusion.
