@jakeadelstein I don't think a "living in Japan" tip should convert Yen/USD with current exchange rates, since they aren't relevant if you earn in Yen. Wouldn't it be more like 5.88 USD if we just go by earned value? Someone probably would have to calculate purchasing power to compare better.

Maybe it's as strong as that translation for Japanese people, but it doesn't feel to Europeans as bad, I think. I think you evaluate his English as more polite than it is, and his Japanese as less polite than he might think.

@not__vee There seems to be some communication issue. A "word for word" translation sounds like speaking JP with EN words. Japanese has a lot of implicit info or relies on context. Sentences need to be "completed" to be proper English. But the last post talks about "correcting narrative".

But that also takes away the strength the word has. If you censor a word, it becomes taboo and thus it becomes worse than it has to be.

@CMassner @airkatakana Fluoridation seems to have increased between 1992 and 2006. Argument seems to be "it's good for your teeth" but any mouth wash will warn you to not drink it. People seem to gain a lot of weight when they go live in the USA, even with the same diet. Something is wrong in the USA.

@dsifriend @tehnyit It's not the worst, but certainly not the best. Maybe below what I consider average. The Oettinger wheat beers are cheap, but still better than the cheapest wheat beers. Germany has some beers that truly are the worst beers in the world though.
