Think of the things Andy Beshear has had to deal with in his first six months of office, and people want to eviscerate him because their kids can’t go to soccer practice.
No matter your opinions on high school sports moving ahead, you can't help be happy right now for the coaches and players who have endured 2 months of conditioning and uncertainty. This is a good night for them.
Any actual examples of these kids who are “suffering” because they have to wear masks to school? Suffering? Ask the kids who can’t afford breakfast before school, don’t have homes to go to after school. GTFO here with this “suffering.” Masks are, at worst, a minor inconvenience.

BREAKING | The undefeated Male High School softball team
@loumalesoftball
has been named national champions by USA Today and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association:
There's always been a theory that if you commit to UK, you're the automatic front-runner for Mr. Basketball. Never has that theory been proven more certain than it was tonight.
Your occasional reminder this guy had 104 catches for 1,461 yards and 26 touchdowns against the toughest schedule in the state and led a 15-0 state championship team … and didn’t get voted Mr. Football.
Pendleton County's Dontaie Allen, a University of Kentucky signee, named Kentucky's Mr. Basketball despite playing just 13 games because of a torn ACL.
From Coach Hallock at Jackson County: In order to show further solidarity & unity between the west end of Louisville in Shawnee & foothills of EKY in Jackson Co. we are working on long term playing schedules in football & other sports. We have become brother/sister institutions!
THOUGHT FOR DAY: KHSAA rules state an athlete must sit out one year after transferring but provides 10 exceptions. Maybe it's time KHSAA goes public with which exception an athlete qualifies for because lack of transparency is creating tremendous confusion & mistrust among many.
I first noticed
@Ballard_Sports
manager Sam Ajagbe at the King of the Bluegrass & it turns out he has an incredible story: Moved from Nigeria at age 6, bullied because he was different, cut from basketball team & now has found his niche. Read more here:
I do feel bad for what athletes are going through right now. But what are we saying about our priorities when kids can't cope, can't be asked to function academically without sports/band/theater/whatever else? How can we expect them to cope with life's bigger obstacles down road?
It's crazy to me how many really good high school football programs have zero presence on social media. Find that kid in your school who loves sports. Teach them social media procedures/etiquette and give them a platform to highlight your student-athletes! There are jobs in this!
Game 4 between Central and Manual will be delayed. Apparently Central's bus wouldn't start in the cold weather. Some probably think they're "soft" for not just walking here.
This is the auxiliary gym at Jasper High School in Indiana. Three full-length courts and a four-lane track around the whole thing. School also has an indoor tennis facility.
Lucas Cobler tackled on third-down run and Male doesn't have a timeout to stop the clock. Bullitt East beats Male 28-27 for its first-ever state championship.
I know I'm not going to change anybody's mind about the one-class system, but in the past 24 hours:
Pikeville (enrollment: 360) over North Laurel (1,411)
Warren Central (985) over Male (2,026)
Murray (477) over Henry Clay (2,139)
There's always a way.
KHSAA votes 17-1 to suspend Bylaw 9 restrictions on basketball players for 2020 only. Basketball players can play for AAU teams or other non-school teams until the start of high school practice, which for now is set for Oct. 15.
This isn't exactly news, but it's fascinating to me that every JCPS high school facility is at least 50 years old. (Ballard opened in 1968.). I'm no expert, but it seems there has to be an effort and commitment to update some of these facilities for a 21st Century education.
Three of the 18 starters in tonight’s NLCS Game 1 went to high school in Kentucky:
Walker Buehler (Henry Clay)
Will Smith (KCD)
Adam Duvall (Butler)
Pretty amazing!
Kids today playing year-round since they were 5, hiring personal trainers, traveling around the country … and it’s the high school coach’s fault they’re not getting offers?
My son's 6th-grade basketball team is 0-5. Me & two other guys coach the heck out of them, trying to teach them the game & make it fun. But it's maddening. I have a new-found respect for those of you who do this year after year, especially those who don't get to coach top talent.
KHSAA Can't Win Example No. 422: People complain about not being able to practice. Now we can practice in a couple of weeks and KHSAA gets rid of dead period so we can practice more. Now people complain about no dead period.
If you want to complain about the All-State football teams, complain about this: There are 220-something head coaches in the state. A total of 90 returned ballots.
UK commit Reed Sheppard final stats:
45 points
8 rebounds
7 steals
3 assists
He was 15 for 23 from the field (0 for 4 from 3) and 15 for 17 from the free-throw line.
“They said, ‘You can’t do nothing there. It’s a dead-end street.’” In 72 years of football, Atherton had never won a playoff game. That changed Friday night.
I’m not trying to make light of the situation, but the peaceful protestors from Louisville need to go back downtown and kick the asses of the out-of-town protesters destroying our city.
Cut from soccer team before his sophomore year, St. Xavier's Jeffrey Sexton went to the football offices & asked if he could kick. He's now one of the best in the state and will go on to kick at Princeton University next season
@StXTigersFB
@JeffreySexton3
By the way, Jack Sivori will be getting my vote for Mr. Football. Yes, there are more talented players in the state. But this kid put up phenomenal numbers and led his team to the title in the state’s biggest class.
Don't think you "achieved" something because I blocked you. It just means I'm not going to risk losing my job by slipping up once and stooping to your level, especially when you don't have the guts to use your real name.
I'll never forget when I called Rob after the 2018 season to tell him he had been voted Kentucky's High School Football Coach of the Year. He started crying and asked if he could call me back. He wanted to call his father and tell him the news. RIP, Rob.
Rob Reader, the football coach at Moore High School in 2017 and 2018, died Thursday after a battle with liver cancer. He had spent the past three seasons as the head coach at Marion County:
There seems to be a sentiment from some that a team going into quarantine is some Scarlet Letter-type stain on a program. This is how it's SUPPOSED to work, folks. And we're probably going to see more of it. Better this than schools hiding positive tests in an attempt to play.
Male 27, Trinity 20, final. Garrett Dennis carries the Bulldogs to next Saturday's Class 6A state semifinal against Scott County. Kickoff set for 8 p.m. at UK's Kroger Field.
I don't know the young man's name, but Ballard has a top-notch team manager. Quick to wipe up a wet spot on the floor and to get a water bottle for an athlete.
Male 71, Ballard 61, final. No. 1 Bulldogs (31-4) get first regional championship since 2002. Now it's on to the chase for their first state title since 1975. Male gets Collins in first round at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday at Rupp.
In case you missed earlier tweet today (yesterday?), this is the first time Louisville has produced three state football champions in the same season - Male (6A), Central (3A) and Christian Academy (2A).
According to NFHS record book, Tim Couch's completion percentage of 75.1 while at Leslie County in 1994 also is the national record. Trinity QB Nick Bohn would go down as the new NATIONAL leader after finishing this season at 79.7 percent (290 of 364).
Final tally on Trinity's defense:
Allowed 4.8 points per game (
#1
in the state)
Posted 41 1/2 sacks (
#1
in the state)
Allowed 26 total rushing yards all season (
#1
in the state)
Allowed 4 TDs (all pass plays of 22 yards or longer)
I'm not sure I know any "Karens," but I'm familiar with her cousin Linda who sets the cruise on 68 mph and never even thinks about leaving the left lane.
It's a Lexington-Louisville football showdown in the Derby City next weekend:
FRIDAY'S HIGH SCHOOL STATE SEMIS
Frederick Douglass at Trinity
Bryan Station at Ballard
Lexington Catholic at Christian Academy
SATURDAY'S COLLEGE GAME
UK at U of L
Louisville has NEVER produced three state football champions in the same season. Male (6A) can complete the trifecta tonight against Scott County after Central (3A) and Christian Academy (2A) won titles in the last 24 hours.
