One thing folks don't realize is the intense preparation that goes into it. You basically have to memorize all the lryics, and watch a ton of performances to catch the overall vibe and get the beat down. You also have to study hard to understand the meaning of every lyric so that
My 1yo seemed salty that a few babies his age that we sit near have learned to walk recently and started walking in the back of the sanctuary during service. Like he was yelling "no" at them the whole time. Then he came home and just started walking. I guess it was motivation.
When I used to babysit as a kid I would straighten up the house after the kids went to bed out of boredom. Just realizing how incredibly helpful that must have been.
you can interpret. It's not as if you're just translating, you are interpreting the lyrics to ASL, which has it's own grammar distinct from English and mrany lyrics don't translate directly. I can't tell you how many times my mom has asked me about the meaning of lyics for this
purpose. Many times I don't really know...b/c who really knows what the artist means all the time. It requires a ton of research to get to the bottom of every lryic and to faithfully intrpret both the meaning and the vibe.
My Grandmother died today. my in laws took the kids for the day then ordered us wings and fries for dinner. They also offered to let me stay over at their place since nick is out of town. Masterclass in serving others in time or grief.
I took a ten month old, a 2 yo, a diaper bag, a computer/work bag, a car seat and a double stroller through airport security all by myself….y’all can’t tell me nothing for at least 24 hrs bc I feel like I can do anything right now
At a beach hotel with friends and family...folks dressed for the pool are leaving immediately without getting in upon noticing that we are here...honestly don't mind having the pool to ourselves. Sometimes prejudice has its advantages
The flight attendant is now holding my baby while I enjoy a snack and a coke. This woman is amazing. Hey
@delta
, you need to give Bre a raise. I’m going to call her manager with some good feedback.
Folks are claiming Kamala Harris having slave owner ancestry as some type of own. Do folks not know that the average black person is almost a quarter white bc of slave owner ancestry? Slave rape was a common practice unfortunately. This is why we need truthful history in school.
@Bec_Shrader
Yup! BASL and so many other regional variations. And yes def an advantage. Kids need a native language foundation before you can teach English. We know that all kids acquire language quicker when taught asl first so we teach asl to babies but somehow the cochlear Implant only
@ihavemudlines
I think they were both impressive. Being suspended in the air and performing so many songs in such a short period of time while being with child is amazing.
@MkyaGonza
Congrats!!! I first read this as 90k a week and was about to stop everything and do whatever you are doing, but yes I’m so very happy for you: love to see us succeed
Today on my
@delta
flight, a couple refused to get up so I could get to my seat & when I struggled to get past bc my preggo belly is huge right now, the man firmly grabbed my hips and pushed me toward my seat. Second time this yr I was I appropriately touched by a passenger
It bugs me when folks see our baby and say “enjoy them while they’re cute bc eventually they turn into teenagers,”…or some variety….they say this in front of their teenagers. Would hurt my feelings if my parents did this
A dude in target couldn’t figure out what body wash to buy for his daughter. He messed up last time and bought “something for boys”. After I helped guide him toward a likely acceptable option another dude asked for a consult. I think I may have potential working the soap aisle.
I don’t see how this is rude. Am I missing something? If an aisle where that important to me, I’d come early enough to secure it. We try to get back row bc strollers but often we’re late bc we stopped at Starbucks or there was a meltdown and we get what we get. It’s all good.
My parents brought me assignments and projects to school all the time. I was a very responsible kid. I just had ADHD. I was already responsible but by bringing my stuff they taught me that they would always love, support, and be there for me. They continue to do so to this day.
My kid packed his project last night and forgot to bring it to school this morning. I saw it as we left the house and it pains me not to remind him. That bitterness as he walked to his classroom was horrible for me to watch, but necessary for him to grow up.
Am I watching the third season of Virgin River? Yes! Is it good or has it ever been good? No! Did I watch the first two seasons? Yes! Was either of those seasons objectively good either? No! Am still going to watch? Absolutely!! Thanks for understanding.
A guy smoking a cigarette in front of a building saw us approaching and moved far into the parking lot to avoid the smoke getting anywhere near the baby. A much appreciated kindness from a stranger.
My (really my moms) baked chicken thigh recipe is how we keep above water. Pair it with a veggie and we have minimum viable dinner. We eat it like five days a week. I call it survival chicken but it’s actually extremely delicious.
As we grieved the passing of my Uncle Michael this week, we also welcomed to the world the most precious little boy, Matthew Christopher Brown, AKA Niko. Happy Father's Day everyone!!!
I think every little black girl ever has lived in this style at some point. Something nostalgic about picking up these hair balls at target..,…Also, may baby is two. I can’t believe it!!!
Do women dislike video games? Curious to hear from women. I’m not super into them, but they are entertaining just like tv, social media, or any other distraction.
Women don't dislike video games because they're geeky
We dislike them because they're anti-social and consumption-based, like if a woman said TikTok or online shopping was her hobby
Hobbies should involve actually doing, making, or learning something
I was overcharged nearly $3k for the birth of my child. They were knowingly sitting on my money. I knew this b/c I've been working in healthcare revenue cycle IT for nearly a decade & understand the claim process. This likely happens to folks all the time w/o them knowing.
Hard disagree. This isn’t passive aggressive, this is purely in the realm of aggressive and it is intentional. In the rare occasions I have used “per my previous email” I meant it and don’t regret it. Sometimes you have to end the infinite loop.
Never use the phrase, “As I mentioned,” in an email.
What you’re really saying is, “Hey idiot, I already told you this” and we all know it.
No one likes to work with or promote the, “As I mentioned” person
It’s a passive aggressive neon sign.
The kids are giving strong "I'm just here so I don't get fined" energy, and I love it so much. Also, I'm wearing my first and only pair of Jordans (my amazing in-laws gave us matching shoes for Xmas, so we did a photo shoot).
Trying to think of ways to create opportunities for moms to work from home and make good money...I can't just keep busting scams in moms' groups without providing viable alternatives
@Skjaldmaer1
@taymabelitini
came here to say it...did he see someone sprinkle COVID over lake Michigan...was it dumped in there Boston tea party style...inquiring minds need to know
Due to a very severe dairy allergy we are no longer a kerrigold family and are now a country croc family…I will miss kerrigold, but our Tupperware situation is about to be lit. Old country croc containers are everything for leftovers
An airport employee had the nerve to comment that my child’s father should be here to help with my bags and the stroller/car seat/etc bc he was irritated that I was slightly in his way. I commented that my father was in the back of the plane. I had exited first bc I was 1/
Sha’Carri Richardson’s comeback story hit a brick wall Saturday when Julien Alfred romped in the rain to the 100-meter title in 10.72 seconds to bring the first-ever Olympic medal to her island country of Saint Lucia.
Just found out that our baby is allergic to wheat, eggs, milk, nuts, shellfish, soy, pet dander, and pretty much everything outside, grass included...time to get an EpiPen and throw out a ton of food
@emilykmay
maybe I'm a narcissist, but I don't think I could be with someone who didn't adore me at all stages of his life. I def need to be adored in all timelines, past, present, and future.
And yet, someone had the nerve to tell me what my husband should be doing. And listen, even if he wasn’t around, why should an airport employee shame me for being in the airport alone 5/
He’s happy to be there to help folks impacted by the storm. It’s his nature. Yet, it has not been easy being without him for this long. The last thing I need right now is a lecture for not setting up my stroller quickly enough for a grumpy employee’s liking.
The local moms group is now advertising a job that pays 1500 a week for assembling candy boxes from home…at that wage there is a hundred percent chance that the candy is cocaine
Slightly older mother of young children here...I served in my church, spoiled my nieces and nephews, helped care for my nana, and built my career while waiting to be picked b/c most women don't choose to be single & yes, there is lots of luck involved in "getting chose"
For all of you coping that there’s absolutely no problem with a woman waiting until 40 years old to start a family: please tell us what you think that woman is going to be doing for the 22 years from 18 to 40 and how that WONT handicap her ability to be a good wife and mother.
Single mothers are shamed enough at it is. With the difficulty that they encounter day in and day out, how dare someone scold them for simply existing. I don’t usually tweet long threads, but Nick’s deployment to the emergency operation center hasn’t actually been easy 7/
This is my amazing sister-in-law pictured here. She's a Brown University medical school graduate who just found out today that she matched at Harvard where she will serve as an orthopedic surgery resident. I am beyond proud!! So excited for her!!
@pastordmack
@TomBuck
This isn't aimed at this thread specifically, but an overall observation...Why are we so good about keeping tabs of women preachers but so woefully inept at (and basically refusing to) tracking serial abusers?
My in laws called to ask if we wanted to come over for lunch and then leave the baby there for the rest of the day….don’t mind if I do…grandparents are literally the best
My mom has told me many stories about her childhood but only recently opened up about what integration was like...she had to deal with white boys comnig up to her and hitting her in the face for no reason, and not to mention how awful the teachers were. I had no idea.
I was called the N-word for the first time very early, I was in the 2nd grade the second time I was called that...deciding when to teach about racism is a privilege, many of us don't have such a choice
