He/him. Former Pro SSBM Sheik player turned Ness main, I also fancy myself something of a coach (DM for availability, cost is $40/hour USD). Happily married.
So here’s the thing… as much as I would like to continue shamelessly boasting about this, the reality is that Medz has basically the best base of all time for this process, and an unreal work ethic.
I cannot promise that you will get 9th at a super major. Nobody can. (1/4)
never thought i’d be 1 game away from the top 8 big stage, i’m super proud of my run and my composure.
@kirbykaze_
ty so much i owe a lot of it to you.
So far I don’t think a single player I’ve coached at Genesis has underperformed their seed by any significant amount whatsoever, and many have even (greatly) outperformed it.
It’s a great feeling 😁 I’m so proud of all of them ❤️
Unrelated: I will be raising prices on Monday.
So… this morning I woke up and had an idea about tech chasing I wanted to test. This is normal enough, but then one thing led to another and—wouldn’t you know it—I seem to have figured out how to escape Sheik’s d-throw tech chase with Fox 🤨
Today is off to a good start 😁
Before you hear it from someone else, I am 100% happy with Ness. I am faithful and committed to my new character. But I’d be lying if I said after I finished my session with Jmook there wasn’t a solid 7 minutes where my brain went, “It’s not too late... she’ll take you back…”
In the case of a time out where the stocks & percents are tied, instead of playing out a 1 stock game at 2 mins or whatever, what if we gave both players the game win? It advances the set faster after an 8 min game and clearly defines who needs to act based on game count.
As a born-again Ness, my faith requires me to make sickest Ness combos ever seen; I’ve taken this further by cataloguing them. And next Friday, you’ll be able to bear witness.
To any non-believers who doubt the schnastyNess: this clip did not make the cut.

I would like to issue a formal statement of apology to any Sheik players where I played a part in convincing them to play Sheik vs Puff. While I couldn’t have known what this matchup would become at the time, it was still wrong of me. And for that, I’m sorry.
I wish Ness Fair’s weak hits had the “pull” knockback property of his Up-B so they sucked you into the strong hit. And that his dash attack hit only forward on the 2nd hit so you couldn’t ASDI down on it. And if it’s not too big an ask, making u-tilt complete on 25 like Fox.
3am discord call
*controller clacking noises*
'yeah, I think i'm just like, permanently done with women'
'oh word'
'yeah, i just-'
"DID YOU FUCKING SEE THAT BULLSHIT UPSMASH? what the fuck?!?! oh yeah go ahead and taunt. Just unbelievable. Christ."
Today my Ness said he wanted to be like Donkey Kong. Intrigued, I asked how and he described grabs, heabutts, and firing lightning at foes. I reminded him that Donkey Kong doesn't use magic. Frowning, he pondered this, then clarified, "Then I want to be a wizard AND Donkey Kong."
To all my learners going to GOML, competing in pools: I wish you grace under pressure, the wherewithal to acknowledge the stress, and the strength to embrace it and keep playing amazing anyway.
To everyone else: I wish general low level misfortune and/or inconveniences upon you.
Sheik ICs is 2-8 by record, 3-7 by game count, and somewhere between 5-5 and 6-4 if you ask a group of Sheik players and/or Redditors what it is because of her N e U t R a L a D v A n T a G e.

@jackzilla
Hello! 😁👋 A client of mine told me you’d be the person to speak with about appearing on an episode of Fourside Fights! I tried to DM but sadly do not have premium, so I thought I’d ask here. If you’d prefer to speak privately, my DMs are open. Take care!
By relinquishing competition and embracing the casual, I see all: all lines of play laid before me, obvious yet subtle, crackling with possibility. Off the ramp.
Another day I find myself full of gratitude that PPMD never copyrighted his laser spacing theories and I therefore do not owe him royalties for their inclusion in my curriculum.
@ggmelee
There’s no chance I can get any of the footage for the Ness crash course episode, is there? I feel like it’d mean a lot to the Nesscord if there was a way to get any of it given how excited they were for it.
I never thought I would say this and mean it, but… I love my job.
Thank you to my… students? Mentees? We’ll need to figure that out at some point. In any case: thank you for being such wonderful people and players.
I couldn’t ask for a better bunch. What a great week 😄
So much of playing Ness really does just boil down to the ability to watch and shamelessly steal ideas from amsa without succumbing to the growing want for Yoshi’s many luxuries.
The person I’m coaching at 6 pm sent me the VODs we’re reviewing.
They’re against the person I coached at noon.
I have two thoughts:
1) That’s hilarious
2) What have I done 🤣
Barring a technological disaster, I’m excited to announce that tomorrow at 12pm EST I will have the opportunity to sit down with the thirtiest man in the business
@MedzSSBM
to talk about Melee, family, how he balances both, and what goes into tournament preparation. Link below👇
After speaking with his lawyers, I’d like to issue a statement of apology to leffen for this tweet. Not all pros have sold their souls and my post callously paints them as Faustian manipulators. For that, I’m sorry.
His team has since clarified his deal is more like a lease.
It’s really nice being able to have a conversation about the game and not need to filter down the nuance or complexity to the person I’m talking to at all.
just putting it out there that I’ll never participate in any ‘alternative’ Melee community or tournament. I’ve made mistakes, but my goal will always be to redeem myself within the main community and show that I can still be a positive influence.
Went down 0-2. 😬
Got u-tilted by Ganon. 😒
Clawed it to 2-2, then SDed at 36% in the 5th game to go down 1 stock to 3. 🤦
But sometimes needing to find a way out of the hole you're in is just part of the fun 😤
My opponent: I've never seen that before. What the hell was that?! And how does he see the game so differently?
Me: Know what would be hilarious right now? 🤪
Do you know someone who struggles with implementing new techniques and/or making deliberate changes to their play?
If so, this is a PSA: trying harder is bad advice.
People learning a new skill don’t need pleasantries. They need instructions. Learn how in the short below 👇
Are you bad at the Fox ditto, or know someone who is bad at the Fox ditto?
Yeah, I didn't think so. Everyone thinks they're a god at it.
But just in case you wanted a breakdown on some of the incredible things Soonsay does in the matchup... you know the drill; link below 👇
In case you're wondering what kinds of things I help people with...
This is a good example. Amazing work
@salamithegreat
implementing the counterplay for Sheik's corner mixups that we went over <3
It’s a special feeling when you go through results and discover you outplaced your nemesis by one spot.
And I mean is it petty? Yes.
Mostly means nothing? Yes.
Am I still satisfied? Also yes.
Get destroyed you talentless hack 😘🥳
I gotta say... I definitely loved Sheik's dash attack (probably to a fault tbh) but when I play Ness there's just something about hitting that third sparkle that pulls not only at my heart, but also at my opponent. Specifically, towards me.
A common question with developing players is: “How much tech skill do I need?”
After 3 months of teaching, I feel confident in: “Enough so that you can play while keeping your character out of sight or in your peripherals, and act without guiding yourself through inputs.”
Oh my god picking just 5 is tough lmao
1. PPMD
2. Armada
3. Cody
4. Moky
5. Drephen
I’m sure I’ll debate this with myself later and fight with my brain but that’s what I’m going with
Does anyone else find it tough when your new friends and your old friends just don't seem to get along? I have two of them and it feels like every time they're around each other it always devolves into them trying to one-up each other. I don't know what to do :(
Clip unrelated.
My favourite part of coaching is when I get to see the people I’m working with applying the ideas we come up with and start making them their own 😁
So rewarding 😌
Thanks for the shoutout
@moky_dokie
❤️
Thank you to everyone who tuned in today! I had a fun time streaming; it was significantly less terrifying than I thought it would be! So much so that I will probably do
a short one on Sunday, likely around 3 pm EST (during the Genesis X equipment change).
If you are looking for someone to simply give you answers, you and I are not a good fit. To me, that is the equivalent of giving you fish. If you are interested in learning *how* to fish though, then I think you and I will have a lot to talk about 😁 (4/4)
Fun fact: neither I nor Joey were the 1st seed here.
1st seed was
@MurdockSSBM
(who had to DQ for prior commitments). He’s unimpressed with my sets and says he’d have made it grands.
I agree.
If you do too, join us for a “Thug Finals” tonight. Bo3 bo5s, 10 pm EST. Link 👇
I’m not sure how, but in the moment I just knew that up smash—plain old up smash, all by itself—was the play. And I know: I sound crazy, and it *is* hard to explain. But I think it’s a lot like being in love; when you know, you know… except here it’s how Falco needs to die!
