They act 'surprised' or 'shocked' because Black films are always undervalued in Hollywood. PERIOD. The biased belief within the industry that 'Black films don't sell', or 'there's no market/audience' is a Hollywood myth that seriously needs to die.

Every single Black woman I know wants to see The Woman King. How is Hollywood shocked that it made money? There is data that shows how much spending power Black female consumers have and that they are cultural trendsetters. Imagine being this out of touch?

Really enjoyed this and one of my favourites of the festival. A film about change and loyalty with a motorcycle club. Nichols delivers an ode to Sons of Anarchy and Jodie Comer absolutely owns this. The woman can do no wrong.
