Simone Biles won nationals w/broken toes in both feet, worlds w/a kidney stone, and has carried the burden of being a face of sexual assault survivors as a national institution failed to support them
Half of y'all yelling about "toughness" can't handle wearing a mask in Wegman's
If Alison Roman really wants to have this conversation, I would love to talk to her about co-opting traditional Indian recipes and repackaging them for white audiences. I'll give her this: She is the *most* successful at Columbusing turmeric
Alison Roman singles out Marie Kondo / Chrissy Teigen as sellouts, yet takes no issue w/ white women capitalizing on lifestyle content, asking "Does the world need another Goop?" when reflecting on her own brand. Says a lot about who she thinks is allowed to build global empires
WNBA players were fully the adults in the room, got 99% vaxxed without needing a mandate, yet are currently getting bumped from their home arenas to play playoff games in basically the gym from Hang Time
Every single woman in sports has a story like those in the WaPo piece. So aside from acknowledging the incredible courage it takes to come forward, because so many of us don't, remember just how much we go through just to stay in this space y'all constantly tell us isn't for us.
We've gone from MLB denying players access to interpreters to condemning once-in-a-lifetime players for using interpreters to avoid being misconstrued by the same media condemning them. Any take on Shohei Ohtani concluding he's anything but great for baseball is just uninformed.
The scene outside Staples is surreal. People in Kobe jersey mixed with people in sequined ballgowns for the Grammys. Amid the tears, the crowd breaks into somber applause when this comes on the screen
Can we all agree that a football player should never have to apologize for the fantasy or betting implications of his performance after he helped his team win a game

but the response has been fast for the Women’s NCAA Tournament weight room. Teams are scheduled for lifts this am.
Jon Gruden deserves to no longer have his job, but don't let his departure lull you into a false sense that his emails reflect just one bad apple. He was comfortable putting those things in writing bc he knew he had more than one sympathetic ear
Sandy Alderson just named the country the reporter was from on the media call. That detail was clearly intentionally left out of the ESPN report in order to protect her identity.
I see it didn't take long for the anti-Kaep "it was always about the money" crowd to chime in. Even if you believe that, ask yourself why the NFL, which NEVER settles, did so here.
Here it is. The question was about some owners recently suggesting that there could be fans in parks later this season. Sean Doolittle's answer touched on a lot more:
People are conflating two things here. It's entirely fair for Kaep to kneel/speak out against police brutality AND want to get paid after believing he was unfairly prevented from working for a paycheck. Those are not mutually exclusive things. It doesn't make him a sellout.
Shout-out to the women journalists (and in particular the WOC journos) who are somehow compartmentalizing their own feelings about their worth in this country to immediately continue to report on this
People who've watched a lifetime total of 17 mins of WNBA basketball are out here arguing over fouls and sub-.500 teams
Meanwhile the Liberty are riding an 8-game winning streak and were all anyone could talk about a party I was at on Saturday with people who actually watch hoop
Andraya Carter on Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese: "I enjoy watching these two trying to have success in the W. But if we're being completely honest, their teams are having a mid-off right now. There teams are just very mid. They're 8th and 9th in the WNBA standings."
Been avoiding all 9/11 coverage, but please be mindful: this happened to all of us, but it happened to NYers and some others differently. NYers who were first responders; NYers who went to Stuy/BMCC/Pace; NYers who worked at Cantor Fitzgerald. A lot of PTSD remains, 20 yrs later
And for good measure, the percentage of people who say they're watching the NBA less because of "political messaging" is cancelled out by the people who stay they're watching *more* because of that
So here it is. We have a player who will miss the season because of complications from COVID. Where's the crowd claiming it's not a big deal for players to contract this virus now?
Eduardo Rodriguez (heart issue related to Covid) will not return this year. The Red Sox do say they expect him to make a full recovery, and hopefully that’s the case.
Some personal news: Thrilled to announce my new role at

, writing about sports and culture! Here's my first piece, laying out what you can expect from me and my coverage
As a private uni, Duke isn't required to disclose financial terms of its Nike deal. For perspective, UNC inked a 10-yr deal in Dec worth an avg $6.27 million/yr
Tickets to UNC-Duke were a *minimum* $2,500, largely attributed to Zion
Zion sees 0 of those dollars

She cited not just retribution, but also cultural shaming back in her home country for reasons not wanting to come forward. ESPN did a great job of protecting her from being identified back home. This is so irresponsible.
I hate everything about this day, including the performative patriotism and empty sympathy and my own struggle with grief and mourning. Take care of yourselves
Two years ago today, I was informed our show wasn't getting good ratings because I'm a woman of color
Two years later, we won a Murrow, a Gracie, and a Webby for episodes I hosted

Making complex foods accessible to the mainstream is great. That's what made Julia Child so beloved/successful w/French food. But French cuisine has always been upheld as a standard of fine dining, while Indian and other Southeast Asian food has been dismissed as smelly/lesser.
In this part of India, the majority of girls are forced into arranged marriages by their teens. But not these girls.

In response to "women don't want to work in sports media": Instead of another Twitter list of women in sports to follow, how about every unemployed woman/non-binary/non-cis person looking for a job in sports media post their field/experience
I'm often told that I don't belong in sports media, usually by people questioning how American I am. I wrote about why that made the Jared Porter situation particularly difficult for me, as a woman of color.
We did a poll at Bloomberg in 2014 re: CTE. The majority of white, educated, high-income ppl did not want their kids to play football. Those same ppl overwhelmingly wanted to still watch football. As long as it was other ppl's kids playing. Been thinking of that a lot lately.
Putting aside the many ridiculous aspects of the Kyrie situation, why are we giving this much space to one player not being vaxxed in a league that's 96% vaxxed when 32% of the NYPD is not? That's also a BLM issue

NEW: Mayor Eric Adams has tapped his younger brother to serve as a deputy NYPD commissioner, The Post has learned.
Bernard Adams, also a retired NYPD cop, will oversee governmental affairs. The full scope of his responsibilities was not immediately clear.
Not trying to minimize what's potentially in the Yankees letter, but Ken/Evan have reported for months that the Yankees electronically stole signs as far back as '15. MLB didn't clarify/tighten rules until the '17 offseason, after the Apple Watch incident
Chatted with Michele Roberts this morning -- she says NBA players are now 96% vaccinated, and that the major driving force in getting the remaining holdouts has been players fixing this among themselves, vaccinated players convincing the unvaxxed
after a longggggggg battle with the concussion like symptoms i’m happy to tell u i’ve been cleared to participate in spring training and go after what i’ve wanted since being traded over here, to win an outfield job and show u guys what i can do. i’m readyyyyyyy.
If you're screeching about "toughness" or whatever, don't forget to include that gymnastics is a really, really dangerous sport, and the only reason we don't acknowledge that is because the athletes who are household names in America are women
@gfstarr1
TOTALLY. I've been getting kind of annoyed at the dudes who are like "Oooh you're so busy" when they ask what I'm up to and my answer is working. Like, it's 10am on a weekday and I'm not an heiress, what else would I be up to

Where are we drawing the line at "local" ingredients? Because India didn't have chili peppers until Mexico introduced them to them, and, welp
