Took my 8-year old pal Charlotte to the State House today, a day she just said was her ‘best day ever.’ We spotted @RISecState , who then gave her an impromptu history lesson, a pin she adores, and made our day. Charlotte and I took the commuter rail in and out. What a day!

Observations on Block Island outside Harborside Inn, after a fire appears to have destroyed this late 1800’s structure. 💕 Folks are kind. Restaurants delivering food and drinks to many firefighters. 💕Vacationers making hectic plans to return home with what is on their back.

As much as I try to muster love for Rhode Island, I’m living somewhere I can’t find a decent doctor or job. My dentist is not able to perform root canals, but I stay bc it’s hard to find another. And RI’s leading anti-DEI book banner is now running for school committee in NK.

It’s time for FREE lunches + breakfast for ALL Rhode Island students, just like MA. I volunteer at a middle school and lunch is a time to relax, eat, and reflect. The lunch line is a jovial experience, lunch workers are amazing. Kids need easy access to nourishment.

Talking to folks on the ferry who were staying at Harborside Inn on Block Island. Folks think fire broke out at 10:30pm from a kitchen fire. This couple, from CT, spent the night at the Block Island High School. Finding their way home without their car keys.

Smithfield School Committee reverses course and does NOT pass anti-trans bathroom and outing policy. Thanks to the students, parents, and school personnel who supported trans kids & changed the school committee members’ minds. So beautiful when activism works.

I had a heart health issue recently and spent time at @schealthri . The nurses and doctors were so great that I can almost forgive the place for still having therapy appointments thru zoom. I faint when giving blood and the nurses were so understanding. P.S. I’m better!

Watch this twice, this culture is ripe here in Rhode Island. The book banners/ Moms for Liberty folks are a group of hooligans who know little about civil discourse. This isn’t normal politics and this hate mob will stop at nothing to try and ruin a fellow mom’s livelihood.

Kali Reis was just named Rhode Island’s Community Hero in a moving presentation at the State House. Kali shared that she didn’t fit in while growing up but that she used that discomfort to become a fighter. “You are your own hero,” @KO_Reis86 told the crowd. She is ours. 👇 💕

Scott Hellquist was a loving father to Arabella, our daughter who inherited his fierce intelligence. Scott died yesterday after having a heart attack. A culinary savant, radical debater, adored son, and a Newport character. I stayed with Scott as he died and it was peaceful.

Woman Trudy from Saratoga NY on Block Island Ferry: The police banged on her hotel room door at 11pm. They heard a buzzing sound but didn’t know it was the alarm. A Block Island resident came and brought them to a store to give them clothes at 6am. No sleep but happy to be alive.

Dropped my kids off for a week at @YawgoogTrails for another @boyscouts summer camp. Proud to declare my kids are proud to be LGBTQ + Allied Scouts. 🌈 And I’m without kids for a week!

Thanks, @schealthri . My mother had a fall last night and was treated with kindness while getting stitches. She and the medical staff were quoting ‘Of Mice and Men’ and my retired English teacher mom was tickled pink by it all. Mom is much better and talking politics already.

I’m happy Biden won the RI primary. I’m happy that those who voted uncommitted exercised their right to vote and made a statement. Unlike the Rhode Island GOP, let’s get along. We must work to make sure Biden is elected, Trump can never happen again.

My son Beckett finished 3rd place in JV States for Rhode Island wrestling yesterday. Representing North Kingstown, a town we adore, was extra sweet. I never knew a 12-hour day of sports could be so cool. Go Skippers.

There are other books that may be of concern to you if you are a North Kingstown, RI parent. How not to be a racist literature is available and if that's not enough, there are after school anti-racist clubs like REA to talk about 'microagressions'.
