Wow! Thanks for the love everyone 🙂. I have worked 10 of the 11 Christmases I’ve had in the NHS. The support this post got really helped with the festive cheer. We had a good team today, & I have earned my sleep 😊.
I went on a rather fun journey of Astronaut application last year, including invitation through to round 2 of selection testing. Yesterday my journey ended with the best rejection email I’ll ever receive. Thanks
@esa
- I met some great people along the way. Reach for the stars!

Happened to me too when I bought mine 😂. I questioned it and they said I could only claim « on items used solely for work ». I wonder what on earth they think I do with my steth in my free time.
This happened this week. Hesitated to share it, as I know it’s been another tough round of recruitment, but I am super excited to re-enter training in August😊.

I used to hate it when they told us this at med school. Aside from being totally unnecessary it’s also totally untrue. There’s vastly more intelligent people out there than medics, and you don’t need to be “smart” to do medicine.
Wait forever for an Oriel offer, and when you give up checking online you get an email....that goes to spam. Discovered 2 days too late 🤦♀️. Frustrated doesn’t feel like a strong enough word.

Well. We are anticipating a visit from the big red taxi tomorrow, and soon I’ll be leaving the subantarctic for a roundabout journey home 🚢🚢. Excited for home, deeply sad to be leaving, and feeling very thankful for the opportunities I have had.

My « welcome » back to hospital in May was the person in the ID office actually shouting at me for knocking on their door at 10am, after being told by HR to go there at 10am to pick up my ID card. It was utterly disheartening & made me question my choice about returning.
Gorgeous day for the first winter hike. We did all the things you’re meant to do on a 1st outing of winter: overdressed, forgot snacks, put the crampons on too late and had poorly charged headtorches. All in all a perfect day out. Thanks

I was recently granted FRGS status, and feel very privileged to have been gifted this incredible

Today marks a year since I arrived on this sub-Antarctic island paradise.
I feel incredibly lucky to have seen this breathtaking isle through her different seasons.
Life has its ups & downs but the hills are always here.

Well, I’m a fully vaccinated (yay!) gaswoman getting ready for my first night shift since returning from the edge of the world. (Those 526 I did in a row for the most part dont count). Exciting stuff. Wish me luck!

OHMYGOODNESS! Walking to work and these three are UNDER THE STEPS TO MY SURGERY! The full family! And fluffball gave me a wave! Life is kind.

In true South Georgia style, after the unbelievable stormy snow dump of Saturday, yesterday I had a tropical ski trip where I got sunburnt (oops) and today it is raining. This island 😍

TBT the best feeling in the world- kissing that foot after 153 miles of hard effort (and many months of discipline).

kicks off tomorrow. Go run across Greece!
Managed to sneak in a final run up to Maiviken and back on the briefest of visits at KEP en route further South. It was a glorious subantarctic Sunday and South Georgia looked so lush.
The rollercoaster that is life means my journey North is suddenly a lot faster than planned. Completing a circle, I am at the same spot I stood over 16 months ago, looking outwards and wondering what this next chapter holds.
This has been one incredible adventure.
In case there was any doubt as to my mothers eccentricity: yes, that is a huge coronavirus model suspended from the ceiling opposite the Tardis bedroom door.
Books of 2023: first one an easy-to-read gothic tale set in the cold lonely North. Full of ice and sea and strange feelings. Finished in a day. 🧊 ❄️ 🥶

Day off visit to the

I’m in North Wales, in an unexpectedly good pub (it really didn’t seem like it should be this nice from the outside), enjoying a beer and a burger and my own company after a good days exped med chat & CPD.

The little cafe kiosk at the end of my road does an exceptional bacon sandwich that has become my post-night shifts breakfast treat. Streaky bacon, salted butter and brown sauce, nearly makes the shift work worth it 😁.

I’m so tired this month that the main thing I’m looking forward to about 10 days of manhauling across the Norwegian high plateau is that is feels like it will be “a break”.

Pay for the course, then pay to keep it in date. If ur lucky you pay for a course to teach the course. Then you teach the course without being paid to teach the course. Then presumably if ur really lucky you pay to teach the course that teaches you how to teach the course…
After 2 weeks of withstanding a frozen plateau followed by a boggy few days in North Wales recovery camping (a term I have just coined🙃...) it is time to fulfil my contractual obligations & return to work😢. Vid of me in my happy place, we’re lucky to have these places to play.
Favourite part of expedition planning…finding the highest calorie foods I can get my hands on. Didn’t think I’d find any choc that beats a snickers but this Aldi bar is a whopping 606kcal/100g 🤩🥴
Finally succumbed to a cold water dip today due to combined peer pressure and FOMO…and it was AMAZING. This is literally 30 seconds from my front door. Feeling euphoric, may just be the hypothermia speaking. Thanks
