Very tough personal news. My dad’s COVID test is positive. With his underlying health conditions, age and symptoms, am worried sick. And you think NY doesn’t need 30,000 ventilators? What if it was your father?
On the Upper East Side posters of kidnapped children have been defaced with the word “occupier.” This is unacceptable. These are innocent children who need to be brought home and returned to their families. 1/2
@AOC
You were absolutely correct: “An undercount in the Census, at its core, equates to an existential crisis for almost all of our public federal systems”

Today Park Avenue Synagogue was vandalized. As a former member of this congregation, I am disgusted by this vile antisemitic act. A house of worship is a sanctuary. Defacing it is an attack on all of us.
THIS JUST IN: Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer releases rare PSA to encourage New Yorkers to complete the

This is vile hate speech and harassment and truly abhorrent. I have contacted the
@NYPD19Pct
and they are reviewing these videos. There is no place for hate in our community and city.
I’ve always been a strong advocate for freedom of speech/religion but this crosses a line and rises to level of hate speech. Barricading Jewish students in a library isn’t free speech nor is this. I’ll always do everything in my power using my voice to bring these hostages home.

UPDATE in Street Vendor Case in Our Community: The Suspect is in NYPD custody and has been arrested. Thank you to
@NYPD19Pct
for their swift investigation. Hate and harassment have no place in our community.
BREAKING: Democracy wins. The Census Bureau finally realized they cannot defy a federal judge's orders and undermine this foundation of our democracy. Self-response and door knocking in the 2020 Census will continue until October 31! Justice prevails!
3. UPDATE: The Census Bureau has updated its webpage "
#2020Census
Operational Adjustments Due to COVID-19" with Oct. 31 as the current end date for all counting efforts.
Shaun- you seriously need to get your facts straight. NY State did absolutely nothing. The city’s effort equaled the 2010 number despite being in a global pandemic and beat almost every major city across the country. Expect better from a former Cabinet official.
Bill de Blasio’s incompetence has cost our city dearly, and could cost Democrats the House. This stunning revelation is another example of his inability to lead.
Instead of counting votes during his failed presidential run, he should have been counting New Yorkers here at home.
Thrilled to partner with
@Lin_Manuel
, Thomas Kail, James L. Nederlander, and Jeffrey Seller on saving the
@dramabookshop
that is so beloved by our theatre community.
As a teen, I went to the

In 2002, I met with Tommy Kail in the Drama Book Shop. It gave us a place to go.
Proud to be part of this next chapter.
A place for you to go.
Not the way I wanted to start 2022 or my 1st week on job, but I have COVID and so does my 3 year old daughter. I have fever, chills and overall feel like I have the flu (was double Vaxxed and boosted) but most thankfully my daughter feels fine and has boundless energy.
On my walkthrough with
@NYC_DOT
Commish
@Ydanis2013
we saw rampant placard abuse between E 75th and 76th and 1st Avenue. Drivers are using fake placards and abusing legal parking spaces - which leads to double parked vehicles and increases risk of crashes. 👇👇👇
In Corona this morning with

Enough is enough. This is tragic. In the past decade, 12 pedestrians have been injured at this intersection of 76th and Third. We need immediate investment in traffic calming measures at this site.
Very tough writing this as I literally have been worried sick. My 84 year old father who has serious underlying health issues was tested for COVID as he was exposed through a home health aide who tested positive. He has a fever and cough. Very worried while we wait for the news.
This just in: 10.5% of NYC households have already responded to the #
#2020Census
in the 1st week! In 2010, it was only 6% at this point. Proud of all our work thus far. We have much more to do, esp. with
#COVID19
challenges.

A constuient in my district alerted me to the fact that a tailor on the UES has this hanging in his queue to be tailored. I have reached out to this business and they will not be tailoring this item and
@NYPDnews
is currently investigating.
We are the city with the most significant population gain. I am so proud of the work NYC 2020 Census did under the most challenging of circumstances. Accurate count=more desperately needed federal dollars. BIG WIN FOR NYC!
🚨 WE DID IT!🚨
The results released tonight and what we've seen of my lead on absentee ballots decisively confirm that I’ll be headed to the City Council to represent the 5th District!
The

UPDATE regarding Pita Grill incident on UES: We have received an update from the
@NYPD17Pct
regarding the broken glass at Pita Grill. The Precinct reports that this is not an antisemitic incident but rather a burglary where items were taken and a civilian intervened.
I’m running for City Council! My family has seen New York’s promise since my mother survived the Holocaust and settled in Yorkville. And I’m clear-eyed about the challenges that lie ahead and ready to be part of the solutions.
After a long and harrowing battle, my father was FINALLY declared COVID-free. He is not able to walk yet and Dr not sure he will ever be the same, but he made it through and I am forever grateful to the amazing health professionals who saved him.
My father got COVID almost a year and a half ago. He barely made it. Tonight was the first day (other than his vaccine) that he left his apartment. We took him for his birthday in his wheelchair to Neary’s his favorite restaurant. I can’t describe how happy this made me.
Today I gave
@ydanis
@NYC_DOT
a list of 44 intersections in our district that have had crashes or fatalities and must be addressed. We need traffic calming measures like leading pedestrian intervals, sidewalk extensions, and split-phase signals implemented immediately.
More than 9,000 New Yorkers are now hospitalized with COVID-19 - surpassing the levels of January 2021's peak surge and reaching levels not seen since May 2020. May everyone stay safe and healthy by being vaccinated and boosted!
Right now a pedestrian was struck at E 93rd St & 1st Avenue. This is the second time this happened in 2 weeks, as another pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on February 7th. We need to act to make
#VisionZero
a reality for safer intersections!

Freedom to peacefully protest is a basic constitutionally protected right to air your views. The violence against protestors, journalists and even lawyers monitoring the protests must end. And it has occurred with a curfew that has exacerbated tensions.
#BlackLivesMatter
We did it! From East Harlem, to Yorkville, to Roosevelt Island, to Midtown East, and every corner of the district, we showed that our positive campaign focused on experienced leadership fighting for an equitable comeback could win overwhelmingly. 1/3

Can’t believe I am writing this. While we were cut short 2 weeks by unconscionable political interference + while we wait to see NYC’s final # + if we feel data Trump finally reports is accurate or not, I couldn’t be prouder of result our team collectively achieved for NYC! 1/4
My office toured the Queensboro Bridge w/

Commissioner
@ydanis
to discuss expediting ongoing construction projects and converting the outer roadway for increased bike and pedestrian usage. Cyclist + pedestrian safety is essential!
Well look who got the last laugh? In January the Comic Strip sued me in a $1 million defamation suit because I called out their anti-Semitic Insta post. Judge just ruled in our favor dismissing this bogus case. Yep it’s protected free speech to call out something as anti-Semitic!
We won! With your help, we built the broadest, most diverse coalition of support in this race, earning over 12000 votes! Our vision for a stronger, more equitable future resonated in every corner of the district. I'm so honored and humbled by your support—now let’s get to work!💪
BREAKING: US District Court for SDNY agrees with NYC - the Trump administration’s latest attempt to exclude undocumented immigrants from being counted in the census was unconstitutional. The census is for everyone, and every NYer counts.
This is completely unacceptable! Another pedestrian critically injured! This is 2nd senior citizen struck by a vehicle in less than a week on the East Side of Manhattan.
@NYC_DOT
must make vision zero a reality and install safety measures immediately.

This morning we finally learned our cousin who is a medic in the Israeli army and stationed at the southern border is safe. She is still on the front lines but for now we were beyond relieved to hear she is safe. Sadly, so many others are still waiting to hear—just unbearable.
In 2021, 547 people were injured on the UES in traffic incidents. I requested
@NYC_DOT
to review multiple intersections and have asked
@ydanis
to schedule a walkthrough. (1/2)
Today my office received a death threat which I sent to @ NYPDnews for investigation. This letter was postmarked 10/5 before events in Israel. No one should receive such a disturbing letter that was pages long w/ horrific graphic sexual violence too shocking to post. 1/2

Despite unrelenting interference from Trump, we did it NYC! We beat US Census Bureau pre-Covid estimate by 3.4 points & beat rates of LA, Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas, Baltimore (to name a few) and cut gap between NYC & nation to 5 points from 14 in 2010.

Thank you SO much for the uplifting wishes for my dad. Means more than you know. What I don’t understand is those that tweeted at me that NY doesn’t need more ventilators or that I was “greedy” for wanting my 84 year old dad to live. Aren’t you the same people who are pro-life?
Some personal COVID news. While studies still ongoing, we have had some success treating my dad with Azithromycin plus hydroxychloroquine. He is not out of the woods and on day 13 of fever and weak. But he has not had shortness of breath and thus not needed to go to hospital.
BREAKING: It’s not ideal that we lose *any* congressional seats, but we only lost 1 when the outcome was expected to be—and would have been—a lot worse without the work we did with NYC Census. 1/2
New York will lose one seat in the House of Representatives after the latest population count, the U.S. Census Bureau announced.
The loss of the seat, which will bring New York to 26, is due to population loss.

No one should ever feel unsafe at a school. We need
@NYCSchools
to ensure that both teachers and students are safe and respected. Learning to respect a view that is different from your own is what should be taught at school not used to intimidate.
Tonight our community stood up against hate & embraced inclusivity. We expressed our constitutional right to peacefully protest
@MomsForLiberty1
who have pushed anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, advocated for banning books & even had a newsletter that quoted Hitler. We moms said no.

this week about adding protected bike line infrastructure. There's no crosstown bike lanes between East 78th & 90th streets! We absolutely need more connected crosstown bike paths to prevent these horrific deaths, injuries + collisions
In 2007, when my son was 2, we almost lost him to an anaphylactic food allergy reaction. What saved his life was an Epi pen which thankfully I had with me. The Dr at the hospital he was admitted to said if we did not have an Epi pen with us he would not have survived. 🧵

Hey NYC! Here’s your 2020 Census Progress Report:
NYC: 13.6%
Manhattan: 16.4%
The Bronx: 13.1%
Staten Island: 14.6%
Queens: 13.1%
Brooklyn: 11.9%. In 2010, one week out, the city’s self response rate was only 6%. Strong start, but let’s make this week count!

As a proud Jew and daughter of a Holocaust survivor, I stood tonight with over 10,000 New Yorkers who came out in solidarity with Israel as we unequivocally condemned the terrorist atrocities committed by Hamas. This was the largest slaughtering of Jews since the Holocaust.
These horrific attacks against women require an all hands on deck approach to bring this perpetrator to justice. I have spoken to the 19th Precinct who is actively investigating these incidents, and has just released a picture of the suspect. If you have any info DM
@NYPDtips
!
🚨WANTED for ASSAULT:
On 6/18, in two separate incidents the suspect slashed two women on the leg. First at 4:14PM at the 86 St/Lexington Ave subway station, then at 4:32PM on a '4" train near Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall station.
Any info? DM
@NYPDTips
, or call 800-577-TIPS.
The right to peacefully protest is sacrosanct, but intimidation & threats are never acceptable. The footage from
@cooperunion
is absolutely horrific. While NYPD is reviewing it and I have been in touch with them, it is despicable to make students feel unsafe.
These videos are circulating on WhatsApp of Jewish students saying they were locked up in the Cooper Union Library as pro-Palestinians were trying to get in.
