As the partner of a jockey, my opinion is obviously biased but I think careless/reckless riding is criminally under-policed in this country, and in some states more than others. Slap-on-the-wrist sanctions don’t do much to deter dangerous riding that can end in tragedy.

Have always disliked the language used in these announcements, particularly the phrase “jockeys withdrew their services” which almost seems to try to shift blame to them for the meeting being called off. If the people riding on a track deem it unsafe/unsuitable, then it is.
