I saw Oasis twice the first time around and I’m here to warn you that Liam hunched over in front of the mic, with his arms folded behind his back, looking like he’s straining to pass a kidney stone, isn’t necessarily the most compelling live show you’ll ever experience.

@DJLouieXIV What this argument fails to acknowledge is that 40 years ago debuting on Billboard with 60,000 albums sold would have put you in the charts at #144 , not at #4 . You’re not exactly a “pop star” when you’re only moving 60K units.

Listening to the 25th anniversary vinyl reissue of Up today, and it strikes me once again that R.E.M. made their own Yankee Hotel Foxtrot three years before Wilco did, yet Up was largely dismissed and ignored, while YHF was hailed as reinventing rock.

@MatanaRoberts One big problem with Albini’s critique of the major label rat race is all the well-documented stories of all the indie artists who got screwed or not paid by ostensibly righteous labels such as SST or 4AD, to name just two. There is no easy way out, as Pete Townshend once put it.
