Had a cheap customer want to spend max $90. Told her we can’t do the whole place for that price. She asked if we can do the best we can at $90. I said fine. She ended up being content but not thrilled bc we couldn’t finish. ?? Left a 3-star review. Cheap customers SUCK.

Left my 9-5 to start a cleaning company 8 months ago. Currently, we’re at about 20 recurring clients, a team of 5, and a decent-enough online presence to keep one-time jobs coming in to keep our calendar filled. Would love to hear your story or answer any questions. Shoot!

Started going down the list of recurring customers that I need to let know I won’t be at their cleanings anymore (these are my earliest customers). By the end of next week, I’ll have spoke to all of them and will officially be working ON the business, not in it🚀

My cleaning company uses W2 employees, not contractors. We have 3 cleanings today and I won’t be at any of them (2 recurring and 1 AirBnb turnover totaling about $540 in revenue). We’re building a strong, trustworthy team. You can’t rush that.

Non-remote service biz owner things… One of our cleaners lifted a cellular shade to clean the window and something snapped… Not sure if it was actually our fault but we touched it last so of course, we take the blame. Accountability and customer service go a very long way.

Most customers don’t know how long it takes to clean. They think it should take WAY less time than it does. And how would they know? They don’t own a cleaning service and clearly don’t clean. It’s on you to explain how long it takes. And if they can’t accept that, see ya.

In a lot of ways, I’m a push over. I’m afraid of upsetting my customers and employees. But at times, I know I need to be stern. I’m developing some rules/principles for the employees and customers. If customers don’t like the rules, they’re not for us. Same with employees.

Charge more than you’d think possible for your cleaning service. There’s plenty of demand and this will weed out the cheap customers that’ll give you a problem anyways. Most importantly, this will allow you to pay your cleaners a lot

If you plan on starting a cleaning company… Have some money saved or do the work yourself for a bit to make some money. If you choose remote from the jump, keep your job until you really get going. In the beginning, know your numbers and expect re-cleans, refunds, etc.

In the house cleaning biz… Customer service is everything. But so is employee/contractor service. If you’re not treating your cleaners GREAT, they’ll show up (if they even show up) to jobs w/o a smile and will perform poorly. You need to learn how to keep EVERYONE happy.

This game becomes less stressful and VERY fun when you break it down for what it is: 1. Find people with great customer service skills 2. Fill up their schedule with recurring clients (every 1, 2, 4, or 8 weeks) Don’t complicate things.
