#SecondChances
Second chances are central to who I am.
My name is Jim McGreevey. I served New Jersey as Governor.
Now, I am running to be the Mayor of Jersey City. I hope you’ll join me.
My daughter Morag and her boyfriend Joe became engaged on New Year’s Day. I pray they are intentional and life blesses them with a joyous story, which fulfills their hopes and dreams.
Since serving New Jersey as Governor, I have spent my career giving formerly incarcerated Americans a second chance by providing them the tools needed to reenter society.
I look forward to continuing this work as Mayor.
Dina and I are so proud of Jacqueline upon her graduation from Magnet High School, UCVTS
@ucvts
. Thank you to the tremendous faculty and administration for their dedication and commitment to excellence.
On this Thursday, November 9th, at 9 am, I will be announcing my candidacy for mayor of Jersey City at El Sabor Del Café, located at 31 M.L.K. Drive, JC.
I appreciate how busy you are, but I would be honored if you would attend. Thank you for all you do for our community.
Today we celebrated the Homecoming of Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver. Sheila was a fierce advocate of Reentry. She believed in the power of Second Chances, forgiveness, & redemption. Sheila saw the individual, the power of faith, & the promise of new beginnings. Requiescat in pace.
My Dad’s brother for whom I was named would have celebrated his birthday today. As a nineteen year old Marine he gave his life in a fusillade of bullets, while trying to clear the Iwo Jima beaches of Japanese mines, so the USMC amphibious forces could land on the island.
I’m proud to announce that the New Jersey Carpenters Union has endorsed my campaign for Mayor.
Our momentum is growing fast.
We are going to win this race, together.
Our friend and former
@GovChristie
is thankfully home. Many prayers in Jersey style from both sides of aisle. I did become concerned, however, when
@tomamoran
started to write kindly words.
Thank you for the generous outpouring of love and prayers. You honor our father with your beautiful tributes. Dad's wake and funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 7 Locust St, Carteret, NJ.
I pray for the health and well being of our former governor and friend Chris Christie, for Mary Pat and the children. Jersey Strong! Blessings 🙏
@GovChristie
Sheila Oliver was extraordinary woman, who deeply believed & espoused power of Second Chances. Sheila advocated for reentry services & meaningful career opportunities. Her loss will profoundly impact NJ & those we serve. May God bless her & bring her home.
Requiescat in pace
Today is Congressman
@BillPascrell
's birthday, a proud son of Paterson, former mayor, and Congressman since 1977. Bill is old-school, relationships count, as does common sense. He was a dear friend of my dad, they would meet at the Tick Tock Diner. Happy Birthday Bill! Blessings.
At the State House with old friends Tom Giblin and Skip Cimino, brave injured Ukrainian solders, and two great mayors,

Governor Kean took a chance on a young Democratic staffer to work at the State Parole Board. A Governor of great vision, integrity, and executive leadership, Governor Tom Kean is a personal hero and a professional role model. We were blessed by his leadership.
Last night, Dina and I celebrated Jacqueline's greatest gift in our lives. An old Italian priest once told me, you know who counts, "the people with whom you share the joys and sorrows of life." I am blessed beyond measure with two extraordinary daughters.
ICYMI: The New Jersey Carpenters Union has endorsed my campaign for Mayor of Jersey City.
Together, we are going to usher this city into a brighter future!
Today is Governor Florio's birthday, a hero, he consistently acted in accordance with conscience. In 1993, at JFK Library, Governor Florio was presented fourth annual Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for courageous political leadership in gun control, education & economic reform.

It’s been 20 years since I served New Jersey as Governor.
Since then, I’ve worked in reentry, offering our residents a second chance.
Now, I’m running for Jersey City Mayor seeking my second chance.
I’ve spent my entire career in public service.
I served our state as Governor. I spent over a decade in reentry.
I’m running to serve Jersey City as it’s next Mayor to usher us into a brighter future. Together, we will win this race.
The eight-days of Chanukah begins tonight, the miracle of the oil. We kindle Chanukah lights, oil lamps or candles for eight days, increasing number of lights each evening. Tonight, the first night of Chanukah, we kindle one light & curse the darkness (photo: Nazi Germany).
Although disappointed in the mayor's comments, I don't disagree with his assessment of the CNN profile. Rather than focus upon my mistakes from 20 years ago, I am more concerned with fixing the finances, education, & quality of life for the people of Jersey City.
From building more affordable housing to improving the quality of our education, I’m running to be Jersey City’s next Mayor to fight for the shared values that unite us.
Today, on Veterans Day, may we always honor the sacrifices made by those who served our nation.
Thank you to the brave veterans who put their lives on the line for our freedom.
#VeteransDay
Yesterday was the third anniversary of my Mom’s death. I think of her and pray with her every day. At Holy Cross Cemetery yesterday, there was a young mother teaching her daughter to pray to her grandfather. There’s not much that gets to me, but their words were pure grace.
Thanks to
@CardinalJWTobin
's leadership, we identified need to provide families with clinical treatment when a loved one seeks recovery. The window for recovery can sometimes be very narrow. In partnership, we will provide the best treatment.
I am so proud to have the endorsement of the Transit Union in my race to be Jersey City’s next Mayor.
Our campaign’s momentum is growing fast, and together, we will win.
Last month, I sat down with Jake Tapper on CNN to discuss my resignation as Governor in 2004. I recognize I made poor decisions. Yet, I have become a more conscientious person not in spite of my mistakes but because of them. Please read my reflection:
Jersey City residents are fired up for our campaign.
We ended 2023 off strong with endorsements from the Carpenters Union, Laborers Union, POBA, and the PSOA.

"Darkness" was written by Lord Byron in July 1816, the Year Without a Summer, when Mount Tambora erupted in Dutch East Indies casting enough sulphur to reduce global temperatures & cause abnormal weather across America & Europe. The darkness inspired Byron to write the poem.

Serving as Mayor of Jersey City would be a great honor to "give back" to the city of my grandparents, parents, & birth. Humbly, the task is daunting, but collectively, we will work to build a safer, cleaner, & more affordable city. I am grateful for your consideration. Thank you.
Thank you to Kevin Drennan, who has been an exceptional steward of Senate Majority Office, his commitment to Second Chances. Congratulations to inestimable Alison Accettola, whose past service as Asst. Public Defender & General Counsel will serve her well in new responsibilities.
From my career in public service and my work in reentry, I have the experience needed to serve as Jersey City’s next Mayor.
I know how government works, and I’m ready to help our residents thrive.

My father directed me to my grandmother's tombstone in Holy Name Cemetery. Margaret Hart McGreevey died in childbirth at age of 36 on July 10, 1936. My grandfather Michael McGreevey was Jersey City police officer, raised his children in St. Patrick's Parish, & served honorably.

Together, we will make sure government works for all Jersey City residents.
@SenatorRaj
Mukherji’s endorsement was articulate, generous, and thoughtful, but his son Leo, who turns 4 in April, offered the most eloquent and innocent endorsement. 👍🎉
