Overshadowed by all of last night's craziness was the fact that Jade Carey now has enough road scores to make the individual rankings. She is currently at
#1
in the all around,
#5
on vault,
#1
on bars,
#15
on beam, and
#2
on floor.
Regionals have been 1000% better with the staggered days and almost complete lack of overlap. Now we just need to get it on real TV and make it available to international fans.
I’m still in complete awe that I got to see
@Simone_Biles
and the rest of the national team gymnasts up close at worlds trials. Truly one of the highlights of my life so far.
If I won the lottery I would finance a 24 hour gymnastics channel that buys the rights to old meets and records Olly Hogben’s commentary over them. No geo restrictions. Every Saturday would be nonstop NCAA classics.
@ whoever decided to take the scores down in the arena in the middle of the fourth rotation, would you ever do such a thing at the Super Bowl? The World Series? March Madness? Then why would you do it in gymnastics?! It’s a sport! The scores matter!
If the
@NCAA
wants to do right by gymnastics fans and competitors, they’ll either schedule the men’s and women’s championships on different weekends or combine it into one kickass weekend at the same location. You’re sabotaging men’s gym by making it compete with women’s gym.
Imagine a college football game where one of the commentators knew absolutely nothing about football and was asking the other commentator dumb questions about the basic rules the whole time
New season. New rules and modifications! We broke down the significant changes to this year's college Code of Points—and had our resident judge Rhiannon weigh in with her thoughts, too.
BREAKING: The NCAA has reached a new 8-year deal with ESPN worth $115M per year to televise 40 championships each year — including the women’s basketball tournament as part of the bundle.
No standalone deal for WBB.
@ChantelJennings
and me on the news:
The universal laws of
#fantasygym
:
1. Multiple members of your team will get injured
2. Your favorite specialist will get a 9.9 as soon as you take her out of the lineup
3. Multiple teams in your conference will have a score of zero the entire year
What else am I missing?
So sick of the American-exceptionalism crowd demanding gold medals from the US men with zero context of men’s gymnastics as a whole. This is a fantastic result for them.
(…why yes, I did just read Facebook comments against my better judgment. 🙄)
My regional projection. Asterisks indicate teams have been moved to accommodate hosting conflicts. More complicated than usual this year so I wouldn't consider this set in stone!
Throwback to when I complained in a column about the possibility of a team competing three days in a row and some dude emailed me saying that there was zero chance of that ever actually happening
Reminder that FIG can’t math: Jade and Simone should’ve tied on VT but didn’t because of decimal truncation. Then with the E-score tiebreaker applied Simone would’ve been first. Not saying this because I love Simone; I complain about this all the damn time. 😂
Gymternet, please share this article. It’s so important to support writers *who actually understand gymnastics* so that they get more opportunities to properly cover the sport.
Football players saying they want to play...winter and spring sport athletes wanted to play too. Laid off employees want to work. Kids want to go back to school. We've all had to make sacrifices willingly or unwillingly because it's a PANDEMIC. Stop making it about you.
This doesn’t bother me in the slightest, lol. If elite gymnastics started going down the NCAA route of awarding 10s for routines with errors I’d quit watching. To do that for the sake of “marketing” is lazy and threatens the integrity of the sport.
This means that in 17 years, not a single gymnast at a major international competition, which includes the BEST of the BEST from all corners of the world, has earned a perfect execution score? Not EVEN ONE?
Do you see the problem here?
I would love to hear your thoughts!
Can we create a guide for four year fans so they know what NOT to say? Like, don’t question the Chinese gymnasts’ ages, don’t express wonder at a 22 year old still doing the sport, don’t ask where Gabby is, etc.
Georgia: 2023 roster released

Nhyla Bryant - Year changed from So. to Jr.
Amanda Cashman - Year changed from Jr. to Sr.
Sarah Cohen - Year changed from Fr. to So.
Haley de Jong - Year changed from Jr. to Sr.
@TIME
I love that you’re featuring the other gymnasts besides Simone, but please get your facts straight before posting. She can compete all four events in quals and will only compete in event finals if she finishes in the top 2 among Americans (and top 8 among all competitors).
The play-ins are nice in theory but have been poorly executed (holding them during the workday, including their gymnasts as indiv qualifiers, including teams ranked outside 29-36). If they can't get them right then please just scrap them and cut the regionals field to the top 32.
Gymnastics should look at March Madness and recognize that one of the reasons why viewership numbers are so high is because they taper the game start times to minimize overlap!
