people are very confused about me being a non-strict vegetarian. i prefer not to eat meat, but will do so if necessary or if the vegetarian option is bad. cutting 90% of meat out of my diet is way easier, and nearly as good… why do people find it strange?

yesterday, i ran 35 miles. it was part of a virtual race put on by my Pittsburgh running group; rules were each mile needed to be at least 5 seconds than the last, no mile slower than 20 minutes, scored on number of miles and delta between first/last.

i have a visceral reaction to "human in the loop", which i'm trying to get over. i think the reason is that it means something very specific to me, but I see it used mostly by ML people to mean ~"HCI"… but, in the general case humans are always in the loop… somewhere…

I was once assigned to review my own CHI 2008 paper; I did not, b/c of course that was a mistake. It was rejected. But, it ended up being one of my most important papers from my PhD. The reviewers didn't get it. I would have gotten it. Maybe I *was* the right reviewer… #chi2020

promised update -- I ran 1:15:43 (which is ~5:46 mile pace), which is the fastest I've done at least 8 years. I was 30th overall and 3rd masters runner! Jen ran 2:48 and was 7th overall and 2nd masters runner. We both won 10 pound bags of krusteaz pancake mix.
