Alperen Şengün’s scoring ability and potential is something I feel goes under appreciated. A game I felt encapsulated this the most was the 4th quarter and overtime of the Chicago Bulls game in Chicago.
Below is a 🧵 breaking down all of his scoring attempts ⬇️
Luka Doncic this season:
33.9 PPG
9.2 RPG
9.8 APG
The only player in NBA history to average at least 30/7/6 on a 50-win team and not win MVP was LeBron James in 2006.
“Stop fouling out every game Sengun!”
He did that.
“Get in better condition Sengun!”
He did that.
“Make quicker decisions Sengun!”
He did that.
“Get better defensively Sengun!”
He did that.
“Take threes Sengun!”
He did that.
Time to stop denying Sengun his greatness.

Sengun is a very unique and special talent and I believe that oftentimes goes undocumented. Rarely do we see bigs even in today’s league getting inverted P&Rs and Iso reps in the CLUTCH. the

got a very good one in Sengun and he only has more room to grow.
End of 🧵.
The

being “stuck in basketball purgatory” is such a mind numbing take I see from people on this app.
We have **6** talented players under the age of 22 (5 of which are in rotation) with extremely high potential.
What about our team suggests we headed towards purgatory?

First scoring attempt you can see Sengun catches it on the hop from Jalen at the FT line, takes a dribble and finishes inside hand away for the help. This 2nd clip is just textbook Sengun, left hand drive into a euro to avoid Caruso’s attempt to draw a charge.
guys can we please not have any Sengun or Jalen discourse bc of this Franz deal. I beg man we know why both of them aren’t getting extended this offseason
In this play you can see Sengun trying to run an action at the elbow, but later into the clock as the play breaks down he does a hard dribble left than spins back right for the layup.
After another 1/2 trip and a big stop on Vucevic, the Rockets come down and run INVERTED P&R. This eventually leads to YET ANOTHER Sengun right wing Iso, and man I genuinely have no words for this shot just watch the clip.
@RocketsCulture
the stat was not a knock on Sengun, the overlying point is in these games with others have it going we score better and he scores better. these games are typically blowouts BECAUSE Sengun is able to be more efficient on less volume because other guys have it, this stat was in no
After going 1/2 from the line, the VERY next possession they run a P&R that ends immediately Sengun attacking Vucevic off the dribble. I don’t even have to say much about the finish that’s just ridiculous stuff, Sengun may genuinely be made out of rubber.
This was supposed to be a scoring attempt only 🧵, but there was just NO WAY I could omit this play. After Caruso makes an excellent play and stops Fred from getting the handoff, Sengun does his patented spin right. When Coby White steps up to be the last line of help, Sengun
Since 12/12 in in 16 games the Rockets rank

a combination of fatigue and injuries have caused a drop in play over the past month.
Is there a move to be made here or is the move just getting healthy?
This play is some of the SPECIAL stuff with Sengun that I think we lose sight of. After terrorizing the Bulls FT line down for the entire 4th/OT, when he catches it at the line they are determined to stop him getting downhill. His response, one leg fadeaway at the FT line.
This is where it starts getting downright hilarious, the Rockets gameplan fully diverges into “ Sengun get us one”. So much so, Sengun just straight up gets an Iso where he draws yet another shooting foul
At this point it starts getting comical, the Rockets know Sengun has it going and has a favorable matchup. On this play he just straight up seals Vucevic at the 3pt line and gets an Isolation possession that results in a foul.
if this next class of G-League Ignite guys share some of the feel and intangible issues as some of its past prospects, is there a convo to be had there?
Down 2 with 30 seconds left the Rockets elect to go quick off the miss and don’t take a timeout. Sengun sets the step up screen for Fred and once again finds himself with an attack from the FT line down.
In this next clip you can see that off the initial P&R Chicago is unwilling to give Sengun a 1 on 1 matchup with Vuc any longer as they load up with Coby White. This results in a wide open Fred VanVleet miss that Sengun cleans up and draws yet another shooting foul on.
To show I am indeed including all scoring attempts this is Sengun’s first miss in this stretch. After making 4 straight rim attempts and drawing a shooting foul, Vuc gives Sengun all the space in the world to shoot this 3. As teams become fearful of Sengun from the FT line down,
This final play is a further illustration of my point about where the evolution of Sengun’s game is going to come. As he becomes a more refined and dangerous scorer inside the arc, teams will continue to be reluctant to close out on him from 3. Being a respectable above the break
After splitting another pair of FTs, the next possession down after a failed Horns set and a failed second attack by Jalen the ball once again ends up in Sengun’s hands on the right wing. This time however, instead of euro-ing or spinning back right he takes the hard drive left
A bit of the bad and ugly here, in this clip Sengun finds himself stuck in traffic and hoists up a pretty bad layup attempt. Ideally, you’d like him to be more balanced on his drive to be able to hit a cutting Cam Whitmore, or Jabari Smith Jr. on the wing for an open 3.
Jabari Smith Jr. has a highlight reel block tape in only 20 career games.
Amazing recover ability combined with his length and defensive IQ is going to be a problem for NBA offenses to go against.
Keep in mind he’s the 8th youngest player in the NBA. Insane potential ‼️

Houston,
By January 2024, the sobering reality that the Texans fumbled a Top-3 selection (+the 2023

+ 2024 3rd) that will be Caleb Williams/Marvin Harrison/Drake Maye) to AZ to move up just 9 spots will be painfully obvious

the fact that y’all see a guy average 20-10 on one leg for half the season and want to trade him bc he’s 25 is ridiculous. he can easily be a 2nd or 3rd option on a championship team yall trippin
