The U.S.'s first Inaugural Poet, Robert Frost, on January 20, 1961. There have been five others: Maya Angelou, 1993; Miller Williams, 1997; Elizabeth Alexander, 2009; Richard Blanco, 2013; and Amanda Gorman, 2021. No Republican President has included a poet in his inauguration.

Yes, Howard was our hero back then. 1968 was also the year of the Frank Howard "streak," when in May he hit 10 home runs in 20 at-bats, still the most ever hit in a week, I believe. Thanks for the memory.
