@Aviation_Intel V-22 is an engineering marvel. The team that worked on it when I was at Boeing was brilliant. As an engineer, it was out of my comfort zone. A few too many rotational parts moving in too many directions on takeoff/landing.

@EricRWeinstein I was peripherally involved in this in 2001. When the national stockpile was increased after 9/11 the threat was scaled for bio terrorism. The pandemic model was still in work. Post 2009 swine, the masks were not replenished. Somewhere around 2009 good place to look.

I just had an NIH grant rejected by CSR prior to review because a figure legend creeped into the 0.5in margin. I wish NIH had other things to focus on than page margins, but be careful!

It took Amazon 13 Years to 100x its IPO price. And 24 years to 1000x. It would take you 48 Years to 100x the S&P, and 73 years to 1000x. Had you bought and held Amzn at IPO you would have done just fine without day trading. The "Option" to invest is an advantage.

@paulg I spent many years in aerospace. It is a cool idea, but practically the future is bits not atoms. Speed has little economic marginal value. Airforce 1 should be a 777 with standardized systems, not a 747.

Fed flooded market with cash, savings rates went up, banks did not have enough loans, so bought bonds in low-interest environment, market overheated, raised interest rate, reduced bond portfolio value, triggered run. I sort of feel like an idiot not to see it coming.

This morning I compiled a complete list of yearly train derailments over time directly from the Federal Railroad Administration Office of Safety Analysis. We are, in fact, at an all-time low in terms of train derailments for as long as this agency has data (since 1975).

@drvolts There are 100k flights every day. Occasionally a malfunction. In this case, an engine made by GE. On a plane likely manufactured 10 years ago. Probably 45k hours of flight time. A fire can occur from something as simple as sucking a screw off the tarmac. Millions of details.
