SB1 also brings voter ID to absentee ballots. Voters just need to write a Driver’s License or *free* state ID number, or the last four of their social on their ballot. Expired licenses can be used too. Problems can be cured 6 days after an election.

Just like HR1, HR4 targets voter ID laws—I thought the left supported ID laws now?—and invalidates them nationwide. Sen. Manchin proposed using utility bills if you don’t have (free) photo ID, but even that fails this test. Democracy alert: 81% of Americans favor photo ID. 9/

These laws don’t depress turnout or block anyone from voting. 35 states have ID laws in effect. Even then, 94% of voters told Pew they thought it was “easy” or “very easy” to vote last November. 17 million more people cast a ballot in 2020 than 2016.

Settlements & consent decrees count as violations, too. Frivolous cases are settled all the time to save taxpayers’ money. Worse, partisan officials have collusively settled suits from liberal groups so they could rewrite voting laws. It's undemocratic but HR4 encourages it. 7/

Let’s remember: Congress created preclearance in 1965 to deal with true Jim Crow discrimination. But those laws are gone. Elections set turnout and diversity records! That’s partly why the Supreme Court ended preclearance in 2013—it didn’t reflect decades of progress. 11/
