Absolutely incredible and yet another example of "things that only happen in SF".
An MTA bus ran over a man in SF and killed him without noticing. The ambulance takes him to the hospital but he's dead before arriving. The Fire Department then writes a report blaming a random

I wonder what she thinks about the people who have to make the food she eats, or build the house she lives in, or design the pencil/laptop she uses to write/draw? Does she just think enough people are passionate about those things that she'd be able to have them no matter what?
@bryce
And it's not a good thing. Apple's world is one in which the richest 10% have the privilege of using vastly different and better software than the other 90%. The golden age of the best software being available to everyone (regardless of economic circumstance) is over.

You're not being intellectually honest with your response here. The infrastructure will look decrepit in 20 years, not now when it's being freshly built. Cities tend to ossify after a certain point in their development.
Excited to share some of what we've been working on since I joined

Extremely excited to share something we've been working on — 4% APY interest on all funds held on Capital!
As a startup founder, you shouldn't have to compromise between product experience and great rewards, and you definitely shouldn't have to micromanage your treasury.
Introducing the world’s first high-yield checking account for startups.
Earn 4% on all funds raised on Capital, or transferred in from another bank 🏦

Good thing Cruise is expanding to other cities quickly then (Nashville soon!), because if California has its way SF will no longer be one of those cities.
@growing_daniel
eh, in NYC 2021 was definitely retvrn to taxi year, I found myself taking taxis at least 20% of the time after years of never taking them. They're the obvious choice whenever surge on Uber/Lyft gets 1.5x or higher.

Literally go look at the NYT right now and then try to claim with a straight face that an “overwhelming majority” of articles are anything like you’re claiming they are
It's heartbreaking to witness the collapse of an institution that was so integral to our ecosystem.
At

, our biggest priority is helping founders get set up with business checking accounts *today* using Capital, so that they can get their operations back on track.
To answer your questions, Capital does not use Silicon Valley Bank in any way.
SVB’s current situation does not affect our ability to provide the best banking services for startup founders.
Our banking partner is Blue Ridge Bank (Member FDIC) and was established in 1893.
@micsolana
Absolutely insane behavior:
"Many of the protesters left their cars on the bridge and threw their keys into the bay, to make it difficult for officers to move the cars, according to CHP Chief Ezery Beauchamp. At least 15 cars had to be towed."
7/ To fix this, we discovered a (relatively) unknown feature in the Google developer documentation: login_hint.
We now automatically remember which Google account (of many) a user previously used to log in, bringing back one-click login for users who signed up with Google.
@eric_seufert
It's incredible how so few people know it was effectively a hoax. Hell, even the EU commission completed their investigation to conclude it had no impact.

It quite literally is the AMA restricting doctor supply. Different from the surplus healthcare administrator problem though.
@moskov
Incredible, really, how for decades we've communicated the results of every single flawed, low sample size, non-replicable study to the public.
Only to then pretend we have no reason to believe obvious things about Covid until proven verifiably.
@DrBonillaOnc
@debarghya_das
This is plain and simple racism. You cannot claim without any supporting evidence that there is some merit lacked by Asian applicants across the board, but somehow you are confident that applicants of other races magically possess that same merit.
And yet you cannot describe it.
@Zanzeh2
@klcmurphy
@DavidAstinWalsh
Which is exactly why the answer is not E. There's nothing in the passage to support that conclusion. It's not a poor question, it's just a test of verbal reasoning ability.

@Noahpinion
Yeah but butter chicken was invented decades earlier in Delhi at the restaurant Moti Mahal as a way to revive day-old tandoori chicken. And CTM is basically a mediocre rip-off of butter chicken.
@sm
This is also why there's always going to be a disconnect here between ICs who do deep work and managers who do not. The former can be more productive towards a preassigned goal (that doesn't change) at home, while the latter take advantage of instantaneous feedback loops.

ChatGPT does provide a shareable link for chats, and so do other chatbot clients. I think the bigger reason is that people usually cite the original source, not the content aggregator that reshared info with you. Same reason we don't cite Google or Wikipedia either.

I described the narrative at the time of the incident correctly, which indeed blamed Cruise for the death.
The SFFD and local media didn't claim that Cruise ran over anybody, but they also didn't bother mentioning the fact that somebody else did. Thus leaving the association

This is what San Francisco needs to understand. Zone for dense multi-family housing and all of the positive environmental impact you're looking for will arrive on its own.

lol was waiting for the tough day of work since the day “ended at midnight” but it was apparently just house parties and barhopping
in all seriousness though we all already knew nobody at MSFT does any real work, some people just quietly revel in it while others poast about it
Behind the scenes of the Capital launch + NYC Tech Week double whammy.
So so proud of the team for pulling all of this together, and stoked as always for what's next!
Two months from ideation to execution.
Still blown away by the response to NYC Tech Week. We had thousands of attendees across hundreds of events.
Until next year...

I've made the tough decision to leave. It's been an incredible ride watching micromobility grow from a toy to a transportation staple of cities worldwide.
what's next? stay tuned 👀
@wanyeburkett
People who make fun of induced demand miss the part of the concept which talks about people *moving further away* from their destinations when highways are built. Not all transportation is a good use of transportation. Local maximas exist. Pareto improvements exist.
4/ We noticed that users often run into the problem of forgetting which sign-in method they used. Why not remember it for them?
Now, when you log in to Capital we remember who you are and guide you towards your previously selected sign-in method by default.

3/ We’ve always supported Google & Apple Sign-In as the primary methods of creating an account.
This allows us to have ironclad security built into our product (with 2FA and seamless account recovery being table-stakes).
I was skeptical four hours ago, but honestly the energy today on the new app has been incredible. Calling it early, I think zuck won the cage fight before it even started.
They're at 6.5M users and growing. Wouldn't be surprised to see them hit 10M by the morning.
@Scott_Wiener
Now let's go the rest of the way and ban taxis as well. There's no reason for them to receive special treatment, especially when Uber/Lyft are already banned, except for regulatory capture.
An amazing milestone. In a year that has been less than ideal for the tech industry at large, Lime has instead defied expectations and grown significantly.
Kudos to the team and my former colleagues there. I'm proud to be an investor!
I am so proud to share that
@limebike
delivered our first EBITDA profitable year ever! The first micromobility company to achieve this milestone in history!
Micromobility is here to stay, and Lime is leading the way to a green transportation future.
happy America day everyone
blessed my parents chose to bring me to the greatest country in the world at age 4 & lucky it only took me 18 years to become a citizen. others aren't so lucky.

It's a free consumer social app. There's no sales. They're not even running ads yet. And Meta's ad organization would have nothing to learn from Twitter anyway.
5/ Because access to a bank account is very security-sensitive, banks typically implement short session lengths.
This requires users to log back in far more frequently than they prefer.
Sign-in with the previously mentioned methods helps part of this, but creates a new problem.
@s_ketharaman
@krishnanrohit
hiring employees is not "stealing IP". You have to actually show IP that was stolen. And noncompetes are illegal in California.
Ramp is successful but what Google/FB have achieved is on an entirely different level. If that's what daycare offices gets you I think they're entirely happy with those results.
Writing software is a mentally grueling activity and is best done in no frills environment.
The idea that a ping pong table and junk food is the right environment for it is insane and I'm sure if Meta/google had offices that felt less like a daycare they wouldn't be here
