This CrowdStrike outage brought to mind the Ragnorok module from my 2006 novel DAEMON (its Destroy() function in particular). A key theme of Daemon was that monocultures are highly efficient -- but also highly vulnerable. Well, here we are...

for best novel! Very glad to hear this. More details to follow.
I wish the media would omit the names of these mass shooters. Instead, we should just number them -- like: Shooter 1,189. That would also help people remember how terribly frequent these incidents are.
Thank you, everyone! It's nice to see so many familiar names in these comments and likes. I appreciate you all so much, and I'm grateful for your readership and support. (◠‿◠)

. Wow. Just wow. What a book. I love hard sci-fi, the less "magic" physics the better. This has no magic, just technology extrapolated slightly into the near future. Also extrapolated: law, bureaucracy. Wonderful. Sequel please!
I’m deeply saddened to hear of Vernor Vinge’s passing. ‘A Fire Upon the Deep’ and ‘Rainbows End’ are among my favorite books. We have lost one of our great science fiction writers.
Rest in peace, Vernor.
For those who might be wondering: I've been off social media lately as I do research for the sequel to Delta-v. Thanks to all those who pinged me or mentioned my books here on Twitter in the meantime. I'll try to catch up in coming days.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you who pre-ordered 'Delta-v' or bought a copy just now. I could not create the books I do without your support -- for which I am profoundly grateful.

Hi all. I've been down sick and largely offline these past 2 weeks, and I'm only now starting to recover. Whatever it was presented as walking pneumonia, but without fever or chills. I don't think it was covid, but I'm continuing quarantine in any event. I hope you all stay safe.
🏆 Hi Friends, join me TODAY as I accept the Prometheus Award for CRITICAL MASS, which won for *Best Novel* this year. 🤩

UPDATE: The release date for CRITICAL MASS has been delayed by one week due to weather-related/logistical issues. It will be released on TUE, Jan 31st (not the 24th). This also affects my book tour (which needs to be rescheduled). Hey, it's just one more week. ¯\_(ツ)_/

This is significant: On today's battlefield defenders need cheap & reliable ways to detect incoming swarms of kamikaze drones. So Ukrainians hacked together a low cost acoustic detection network consisting of cell phones & microphones on 6ft poles.
I'll soon be getting back to work on the sequel to Delta-v, but I also plan to post in social media more often in coming days to explore some of the implications of this current crisis -- particularly on the topic of resilience.

Thrilled to see NASA again contemplating crewed missions to near-Earth asteroids. It would open up so many possibilities in deep space -- in-situ construction, off-world industry, etc.

If you've previously dismissed space-based solar power -- revisit the topic. New technologies & the risk of planet-side chaos from climate change argue for urgent adoption of SBSP. My next novel, Critical Mass, explores this topic in detail.

America is a bizarre collection of highs and lows right now. Like in 1968 we've got cities on fire due to long-standing injustices—but also inspiring achievements in space that could secure a better future for all. My emotions range from outrage to awe in the span of an hour.
My prevailing emotion today is immense relief. America's democratic institutions withstood a fearsome test, and the checks & balances built in by the founders averted disaster.
Again reminding us why those checks & balances are there. Now let's go build a future worth living in.
