I’m looking forward to Chairing the Natural Resources Committee next session.
Thank you
@CASpeakerRivas
for this important appointment.
It’s important to make sure the communities most impacted by climate change are strongly seated to push for the future we all deserve.
We can’t solve social problems unless we are willing to address the root causes.
Ending poverty is more than a policy goal. It’s a civic responsibility.
Don’t let anybody tell you that California is out of money. We have a state budget larger than most countries around the world… we just have to make sure our budget reflects our values.
There's no contest--we absolutely have the best Fellow in the whole Assembly. Amy Ho has done a phenomenal job for us this year. So phenomenal in fact, we decided she can't leave.
Grateful we get to keep you on the team, Amy. Congrats on a stellar first year in the Assembly.
We partnered with over a dozen organizations to mark the inaugural hearing of the Committee on Poverty and Economic Inclusion. Join the rally or watch the livestream.
Poverty is a policy choice. It’s time for better choices.

Fight for working people.
Fight for communities often left out of policy making.
Fight for justice. Equity. Opportunity.
Fight to win.
That is the job of being an elected official.
In addition to leading the Natural Resources Committee
@CASpeakerRivas
has appointed me to serve on:
Judiciary,
Privacy and Consumer Protection,
Governmental Organization,
And Appropriations
I will also continue to chair the select committee on poverty & economic inclusion.
Proud to floor jockey this incredible piece of legislation authored by my colleague and friend Senator
@sydneykamlager
. Our shared dedication to climate justice is having a real impact in our community.
Today my coauthors and I held a press conference for AB 1816.
We all recognize that getting people off the streets is only part of the solution. Keeping people from falling into homelessness in the first place is every bit as important.
I am blessed to represent a district that is rich in Black History.
This month I'll be highlighting some of the people and places that make the 55th Assembly District a center of Black culture and progress.
This is a place where Black History is taught, remembered, and created.
California's voters deserve a referendum process that truly reflects the will of the people. Thank you Gov. Newsom for signing this important piece of legislation to strengthen this vital tool of direct democracy.
Time and again conditions in disadvantaged communities are overlooked or worsened by noninclusive policies.
Our Justice 40 Bill
#AB2419
is going to change that by ensuring 40% of the $44 bil in federal infrastructure dollars go to communities that need it most.

The historic diversity of our Caucus speaks to the remarkable lived experiences across our great state. Our Leadership team also reflects this diversity so that we can uplift all residents. I look forward to the work ahead of us,

Grateful that the Governor signed AB 764 and strengthened the Fair Maps Act. This bill makes sure districts are designed to serve the people, not the politicians.
Our civic process must be inclusive, transparent, and responsive to everyday people.
From DC to LA we are making change. Federal infrastructure dollars mean a better future for our district. Honored to meet and converse with President Joe Biden this morning.
Our Elections bill package is making its way through the Assembly. We won't stop til we have--
A vote for every Californian.
Direct democracy we can believe in.
Fair and equitable representation for all.
Heading into MLK weekend I sat down with Inside the Issues to talk about his legacy, the moment we are in, the murder of Keenan Anderson, the CA State Budget, and more…
To all the women who lead, teach, explore, invent, discover, protect, heal, create, innovate & more -- we owe you much more than a single month of celebration. Let's give these women who break through barriers & change our world for the better, the recognition they truly deserve.
Voting is the most powerful thing you can do to make change.
Don’t forget to VOTE on June 7th in the California Primary Election.

Today is the 57th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act which created protections for minority voters at the polls. Efforts to undermine its impact have never stopped.
Never get complacent. Never give up your power. Vote.
Leimert Park is a major hub of Black art and culture.
A place for art walks, memorials, poetry readings, music venues, festivals, rallies, markets, drum circles, and open mics. A place to gather, organize, and celebrate.
We celebrate Juneteenth because, on June 19, 1865, at last, Union soldiers reached Galveston, TX and the last group of slaves were freed.
If we rise, we rise together. Always.

This important bill will increase the renter's tax credit for the first time in 42 years up to $1,000 for low-income renters.
We won the battle to get SCA-10 on the ballot for this November.
If passed, it will enshrine the right to abortion in the California constitution.
If you need abortion services in CA, the ACLU of SoCal has resources and information:
Funding a statewide reentry housing and workforce development program isn’t just the right thing to do for people coming home from incarceration, it’s also great public policy.
This Earth Day we celebrated by presenting West LA College with $5 Million Dollars to launch the new California Center for Climate Change.

on his appointment as Chair of the Assembly Natural Resources Committee. We look forward to working with you on biomass and renewable energy issues.
For years I led the policy work at UCLA's Bunche Center for African American Studies. It was great to spend time with this year's cohort of Big Data for Justice Scholars. These future-leaders give me hope for CA.
In this house we lead with intention. We legislate with courage.
We take a moment today to remember that many people cared for and communed with this land long before any settlers from across the ocean. Learn their history if you want to better understand your own:

On this day in 1920 the 19th amendment was passed beginning a journey to voting rights for all women.
Women still fight for full equity--in pay, healthcare, and more--especially our Black, Brown, and Indigenous sisters.
Today we honor women and remember the fight is not over.
Communities who live next to oil wells, even ones that extract almost no oil, die sooner. Their lives are forever impacted.
And today, we are doing something about it.
Thank you to all of the Fathers, Grandfathers, Adoptive Fathers, Chosen Fathers, Single Mother Fathers, and Community Fathers who build us up with their love today and everyday. Happy Father's Day.
Tonight, we leave 2022 behind with gratitude for what we accomplished and humbled by the strength of our community.
Let's step into 2023 with a purpose, a plan, and faith in what we can accomplish together.
My heart is broken for our LGBTQ+ brothers, sisters, and siblings in Colorado.
On this Transgender Day of Remembrance remember that thoughts and prayers are never enough.
Stand up. Speak out. Root out hate in every space.
It was incredibly powerful to spend the day with Rabbi May. Hate has a deep history in the world, but it doesn’t have to be a part of our shared future.

One good teacher can change the whole trajectory of a kid's life.
Show appreciation this week to the teachers showing kids how to dream big, love themselves, and love learning.
Did you know reading to kids regularly improves their vocabulary, strengthens emotional bonds, supports their cognitive development, and helps build social skills? Families that read together grow together.
For Women's History Month we honored Lillian Wilson as the 55th Assembly District's Woman of the Year.
Lillian is a nationally recognized civil rights activist and a role model to our community.
We brought the DMV to the neighborhood and over 500 people came out to get their REAL ID this past weekend.
Service is about meeting people where they are.
Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day.
Indigenous people are not in the past. Even in California, their struggles are often unaddressed, triumphs unheralded, and rights ignored.
Today, on the ancestral lands of the Gabrielino/Tongva people, we work to build a just future for all.
Thank you to the 100+ community members that turned out for last night's Town Hall. Change runs on community power.
We will be reaching out with more info on our bill package in the coming days. Check the website for updates and local resources.
