As part of a team you have to realize that sometimes you’ll be on the bench. When that happens you have 2 options: either sit & wait your turn or be active & engaged in helping your TEAM win. You can encourage or pout & sulk. There’s really only 1 option @CoachJonBeck #energy

There is no need for this in athletics, period. Respect your opponent. Play the game and let your play do the talking. Two great players that let their emotions get the best of them. You can’t be in control of your game until you are in control of yourself and your emotions.

Kids have to learn to dig deep, struggle & fight their way out of adversity. You can pay to put them on every kind of competitive team, get them a trainer/equipment/extra practice, but if they can’t claw their way past troubles that WILL come, they’ll never develop as athletes!

“Players: We are all human & we all make mistakes. It is when we fail to take responsibility for or start to blame others for those mistakes that we fail as people & as leaders. Own your mistakes & the consequences. You will gain respect &, in turn, self-respect.” - @CoachJonBeck

I’m at the @TheAcademyVB Coaches Convention today in Indianapolis. Love hanging out with coaches and talking to them about The Mental Edge. Looking forward to presenting later on… “Motivating Athletes: Common ‘Broken Soundtracks’ that often Discourage and Demotivate Athletes.”

If you want to know what mental and physical toughness looks like in a team sport, see the 2018 Notre Dame Women’s Basketball Team @ndwbb They had every reason to toss in the towel on this season but they simply refused to quit. Grit personified. #NationalChamps

Body language (especially under pressure), is a “look under the hood” at the strength of an individual’s character!
