now we're getting a little more creative. i still see FAR too much traffic on here. we need to solve this, folks. join the fight and help us build more lanes.
Caught a glimpse of my sonโs calculus test review tonight and came to the realization that I wasted a LOT of time learning this stuff years ago. I have no idea what Iโm looking at here.
Really, what is the purpose of thisโฆwhatever it is? Anyone use this?

the OP has 52 likes. the person tweeting about then has 0 likes. the comments have 0 and 1 like respectively. yours has 8,000 views and over 400 likes.
if you don't like it then stop tweeting about it! or better yet ignore it!
@littmath
the "teacher when are we gonna use this in real life!!!!!" kids are gonna have a meltdown when they need to calculate the tip at a restaurant with iwasawa theory. it really is a shame that this kind of *basic arithmetic* is so underdeveloped with most.
I got in a Zoom call with my advisor and he absolutely flamed me. The talk is in <4hours and he's made me nervous to shreds.
"If you really understood the stuff you'd ad lib it and not use slides. Also I would've done this totally different approach."
giving my first talk tomorrow and i'm pretty excited! my university has no graduate program in foundations, so i'm pretty excited because i'll be expositing (or at least trying to) forcing for our graduate student seminar.
i have parkinsons disease and my motor skills prevent me from jerking off. i'm appalled that it isn't common practice for doordash drivers to come into my home, unpack the food, spoonfeed it to me, and then give me a handie.
i just got an offer to stay at my undergrad institution on full stipend for two years to write a masters thesis. and all the work i do for the stipend will be virtual. no coursework, only thesis and learning set theory.
i am REALLY excited to start honing my skills in set theory
for those that know forcing, im approaching this a le Kunen, while leaving out the technicalities.
he suggests doing forcing to add one cohen real and explain it via a binary tree (and avoid talking about names altogether), and just say you do it aleph2 many times.
@KamerynJW
yea that's cool and all but can you at least retweet the post it's called Engagement Posting show a little courtesy peace and love cheers luna
@NomadComplex
Guys, guys. It doesn't have to be September 5th, either. Please take another week or three if you need it, even if you've already sent out this post.
You guys deserve a BREAK, and that doesn't just mean a time when the shop is closed.
@Mrs_Meowmerz
I love teaching power series and taylor series. People mention a lot of things here like combinatorics, analysis, diffeq's, but really there's just a common theme: Polynomials are easy to differentiate and integrate, and most other things aren't! (1/2)
@KamerynJW
comments like this are really reaffirming and help a lot. this really got me down and it's nice to know im not alone in not being okay with this.

no lie this was a gift from someone i privately tutored this past semester (he didn't draw it, his irl friend did). can't believe i got furry art from tutoring LOL
1. The Handbook of Set Theory, Volume 2 - Foreman, Kanamori (eds.)
2. The Handbook of Set Theory, Volume 3 - Foreman, Kanamori (eds.)

@CihanPostsThms
the more of these i see, the more blurred the line is between "this theorem is cursed" and "this theorem has a funky number in it for seemingly no reason." actually amazing stuff lol
*YOU CANNOT KILL YOURSELF.*
if you could go back in time and be hitler, and you only could choose THREE toppings, would you choose a gay son or thot daughter ???
@dzackgarza
What's worse is when it's not only perpetuated by the instructor in a course, but by the students too. Took a class recently and asked a question in the second week that I "should have known the answer to" and had the professor AND several students roll their eyes and say (1/2)
i think jordan peterson taking "stick up for the little guy" literally to mean physical size is fucking hilarious.
"oh u always stick up for the little guy, huh? you know what's little, though, right? a fetus. curious."
@Mrs_Meowmerz
So the ability to write any function you like as a polynomial, even if that polynomial is infinite, and even if you have to worry about convergence, ends up being really nice. You can't integrate e^(x^2) interms of nice functions, so writing it as a polynomial is so useful! (2/2)
@SC_Griffith
Proof: Suppose there were some number "n" such that you could not add 1 to it. If you were to post this fact on twitter, people that don't get the joke would explain to you that you CAN, in fact, add 1 to it. QED.
"Kurt Gรถdelโs ontological argument for Godโs existence has been formalized and automated on a computer with higher-order automated theorem provers. From Gรถdelโs premises, the computer proved: necessarily, there exists God."

i guess i didn't realize until now that expository material can go on the arxiv. well, i guess i knew it, but i figured it would have to be a wildly new perspective on something old.
as i sit in this massive limbo with research, maybe this would be a good intermediate goal.
NEVER ever say:
"Hi prof"
"Hello"
"Dear Professor"
"Greetings of the day"
Instead use:
"Chicken chicken which combo are ya pickin?"
"Sunny or not our chicken is blazing hot!"
"Thank you for switching lanes and picking Canes โ what can I get started for you?"

You cannot be serious. Ah, yes. The 35-year-old high school teacher with a 4-year formal education living with roommates.
Don't pretend like wages staying stagnant and prices skyrocketing is their fault; you're not the clever person you think you are.
@LongFormMath
i'll try to give my favorite one in two tweets: if x^2 is rational, then x^2=2 has a solution in Q, thus also in every char0 field. let P be the set of primes where F_p has no solution to x^2=2. P is infinite (***) so put a n.p. ultrafilter U on it, and form the ultrapower. (1/2)
@FinitePhysicist
Sorry, now I'm confused by Pickover's original tweet AND your quote retweet. He's asking if you "get" it, but you're saying you don't get it. So do you "get" it, but don't get it? Or you don't "get" it or get it either. Please advise.
