This is 𝘋𝘜𝘚𝘛 and it’s out in the UK today. It's the story of how modernity’s relentless drive for growth has turned the world to powder - and the people fighting for environmental justice and bringing ruined land back to life. Eight years’ work...

But srsly: we absolutely should try to kill dust. Dust is killing us: fine particulate air pollution kills 8 million people a year, that's ~15% of all deaths worldwide. And most killer dust comes from burning fossil fuels. Clean energy saves not just the planet, it saves lives.

@Flamingweeaboo Sorry to hear that, that’s gotta be frustrating. And yep, air purifiers are a good idea — ones with HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters can remove 99.9% of airborne particles measuring as small as 0.3 microns.

@ssleepybatt Stop burning fossil fuels! Most of the black carbon soot in the atmosphere is manmade, and it doesn't need to be there. We should also stop pumping groundwater and over-extracting water from rivers to use for agriculture (eg cotton, alfalfa), which would reduce mineral dust.

@ssleepybatt I was doing a Masters in geography, and was looking around for a thesis topic when my eye alighted on the dust bunnies under my table, and I started wondering: where did they come from? And what should i do about them? Were they bad or could we coexist? And from there, well...
