My gratitude overflows! I get to work with so many great students, players, broadcasters, and colleagues in collegiate esports.

For more than a year, I wasn’t able to experience one of my favorite things as a coach, sitting in a recruit’s living room with their family, offering them a scholarship to be part of our amazing team. Tonight, we found a future
@boisestate
hall-of-famer.

Having learned that
@playvs
holds a license and will be gatekeeping access to high schools,
@boisestesports
will not be supporting
@NBA2K
moving forward.
One of the big improvements to our esports students is the addition of a Fueling Station this summer. Healthy and good food for our players. This is one of the inspirations.
Collegiate esports will never be one size fits all. Everyone should play in leagues that fit what they want: online, on-campus, part-time, full-time, etc. We choose what best serves our students/school.
Congratulations to
@WaytonPilkin
for being nominated as a finalist for the
@NACEsports
Coach of the Year award in Rocket League! Thank you for your support and guidance of our
@BoiseStEsports
Rocket League team and for guiding them all the way to CRL Worlds!
Imagine if your high school received a cease and desist letter because a company had purchased a license from the estate of James Naismith saying the only authorized way to play basketball was by paying them for permission.
No one has exclusive rights to these games. You can organize them and play them within the TOS. Here are the "basic" versions of the licenses you can secure today and the limits. Some great orgs are licensed for bigger. (fixed)
Thanks to everyone for the prayers and well-wishes. My death was greatly exaggerated. I’m fully VAXed therefore no COVID, but evidently run-of-the-mill bronchitis was still available. Alex
@itsnotkoba
Moore is my superpower. I should be back in form by weeks end.
“Doc, you’re 50 years old. How can you coach gamers, you don’t know anything?” (Actual DM)
Coaching is giving people something they’re capable of doing, support, and demand they do it to the best of their ability.
So much gratitute in my heart. I get to work with such great players, broadcasters, and colleagues in collegiate esports. Thank you for the honor...

Production team works so hard to perfect the tech of story telling. If you know someone who loves esports and would want a scholarship for production. Let’s go!
I married my absolute best friend 30 YEARS AGO yesterday. It has only gotten better year after year. If you’ve met Ali, you know how head over heals I am.
Dear Esports Startups,
Thanks for the email/DM about how you will “fix” esports with your new tool/service/ambassador prog. Some advice...
1. Schools can’t partner for free, offer some $
2. Must have educational merit.
3. Know what we need
4. Call in May

We’ve made an upgrade from 6 42” monitors to 8 in our

@esportsawards
Excited to be in a industry that honors its community in this way. Especially grateful to
@boisestate
and
@BoiseStEsports
for being a university worthy of a nomination.
Give to one another without keeping score, help others when no one will ever know. Forgive those who offend you. Love those who hate you. Give of yourself to help others and you will find a reward greater than you can imagine.
Advice for college recruits
1. Talk with lots of programs
2. Help schools understand what makes you unique.
3. Know your GPA and test scores
4. Look for the right school, not the most scholarship.
Coaches and directors, add on.
We recycled our old broadcast desk to make a new one that actually serves our needs better. Our guy Todd (built our stage boxes from a student design) made it so awesome!
Let me be the first to congratulate my friend and colleague
@CoachAntor
for being selected as the
@TheNAECAD
College Coach of the Year! You have been a model of passion and professionalism,... but now you will be insufferable. ;-) Congrats!
At
@BoiseState
, our esports program mirrors the athletic program in every way we can. Student athletes are students. We try to build our year following NCAA reqs.

- 24 weeks of contact

No number of wins is worth more than a graduation.
As he enters his final semester of his senior year, Andrew
@1_ascent
Russell is a star. Well-loved in the LoL community and playing his best. With his degree in Engineering, he’s looking toward a masters degree in Aerospace Engineering.
RT appreciated!!!
Scholarship:
@esportsbsu
is recruiting for shout-casting talent for Fall 21. They will get to drive this broadcast machine 20 hours a week+
One of the hardest working people in the biz is Cody Elson
@evolve
at
@NorthwoodEsport
. Good to see him in person, doing what we do, stressing over the well-being of the students. :-) Few know the tempo of travel with students, but this coach had snacks in his bag. Respect!
Recently activated, our arena downtown received an upgrade to gigabit fiber, which amazingly comes from less than two blocks away. The ping alone will shock you.
Many in the collegiate have been messaging me asking me to make a statement about the division in the space. Fine. I think both options, Coke Zero Cherry and Pepsi Zero Wild Cherry, are amazing and I enjoy them both. Whatever works for you Tab, RC, etc. Le Croix sucks.
I could not be more proud of our players who were honored tonight at
@BroncoSportsMBB
. Nearly 5,000
@eSportsBSU
@Idaho_Central
T-shirts given out to the attendees. Thanks for supporting these students.
When
@clerkie
announced the
#gatewaylegends
event our first thought was to bring some of our talented production team to assist with the event. Not only did he love the idea, but the
@FairSaintLouis
welcomed them with open arms. Amazing experience for
@BoiseState
students.
This is what we believe: 1) Competition is the core of what we do. 2) Practice and prep should be more challenging than anything an opponent can throw at us. 3) We are quick to forgive 4) Serve others with your talents, that’s why they were given to you.
One of the most unexpected things about collegiate esports is recruiting.
I never would have expected to have those living room conversations with proud/shocked parents when you say the words, “your daughter is an amazing gamer, we want her to come to Boise state.”
Huge thanks to the
@esportsawards
for this winners coin that arrived today. From top to bottom, everyone in the organization has made me and the other nominees and winners feel fantastic. Thank you for the care you take in every step in the process.
College casters, I love you. But, if I hear you say "aggression" one more time... I'm gonna lose it. As a public service, here are 120 words you can use to describe the "a" word or what happens when it's used. Assembled by yours truly. That is all. Carry on!
The announcement by
@riotgames
and RSAA decoupling the exclusivity with
@PlayVS
is a response to the drop in youth player-base of League of Legends and may just save it as a scholastic title.
Congratulations to Dr. Chris Haskell and Boise State University's Esports Program for winning NACE Program Director of the Year!

I am blown away by this and can't thank
@naecad
enough for the honor,... of being in the same tweet as one of my heroes,

Truly, my players, broadcasters, and

@esportsBSU
family are the ones who make this thing go. I just hang on.

To the esports fans who “recognized” me in the PHX airport,
1) thank you for your kindness and support for

2) you should get out more.

Our Rocket League team competing at CRL Worlds was special, but the added level for me was

One of the kindest, most genuine people in esports is Dan.
@Clerkie
does more for others he would ever share. He has personally supported, found equipment or coaches for, and even made anonymous donations to so many. He'd never ask, but deserves a vote!
Y’all have no idea the work being done by this guy behind the scenes. I am a super-fan of
@WBBChris
and our community owes a debt of gratitude to the work he does. Scholars Awards production rested heavily on his shoulders. Thank you!!
When people criticize esports, I don’t think they know the work that goes into it. We STUDY and PREPARE for hours to get better and smarter. It’s a commitment to learning.
That principle, forged in esports, is the key to success in life.

We prefer to play in leagues with other fully-supported programs with FT leadership, space, and scholarships because that’s a more level playing field. My job is to give my students the best experience possible. Clubs should play clubs, programs should play programs.
