SSRIs and all other SRI antidepressants can permanently destroy a patient’s sexual function (PSSD). The pharmaceutical companies knew this was possible back in 1987 and chose to hide it from doctors and patients. There are still no warnings in the US.

Doctor when prescribing antidepressants:
”They are perfectly safe, you don’t need to worry about anything.”
Doctor when you get permanently castrated by antidepressants:
”All medications come with risks.'"
I conclude that psychiatry can't be open about the true risks and benefits of its treatments because, if it were, it couldn't exist.
What is the legitimacy of this kind of profession, where innocent people are harmed for the existence of the profession?
It confuses me that psychiatrists should be interested in the mind, yet their practices imply the opposite: They often just prescribe medicines that dull the mind. In my experience, psychiatrists aren't even interested in what's on your mind. Their primary tool is psychodropics.
Some of my friends have taken recreational drugs and they are perfectly fine. I was prescribed a medicine that was supposed to fix a chemical imbalance. We now know there never was one. My whole nervous system, body and soul was destroyed instead. Trust the medical field?
#PSSD
If doctors have no time to list all the side effects of psychotropics, wouldn’t it be truthful, decent and honest they said that besides the risk of permanent
castration and permanent emotional blunting, there are so many side effects that I won’t have time to list them all?
@DrJessTaylor
Unfortunately this is in line with the general attitudes, but I didn’t know until now that there was scientific proof for that. Amazing work to have put it in clear light! 👏👏👏
Psychiatry as a field exist to diagnose people. How often is the diagnosis beneficial to the diagnosed? How often does it help? How many will be worse because of it?
Isn't it paradoxical that substances that can remove a person's sexuality, emotions and feelings—things that make us human and make life worth living—are considered "medicines"? Yet we are warned about street drugs? Do doctors prescribing these have a conscience?
#PSSD
An honest psychiatrist would say BEFORE prescribing: "All medications come with risks. With antidepressants, you risk permanent castration and lobotomy. They’re no better than a placebo. The side effects are so numerous that I won’t have time to list them."
This is PSSD. This is what psychiatrists do.👇”I'm suicidal all the time, obsessed about how I destroyed my life by going to psychiatrist. Memories of how great my life was before this meds are killing me.”
”nearly half of the studies the companies performed were never published and that the overwhelming majority of them found little to no effect for their SSRIs and SNRIs.”
”Eli Lilly knew as long as 20 years ago that Prozac can produce in some people a strange, agitated state of mind that can trigger in them an unstoppable urge to commit suicide or murder.”
Have psychiatrists ever publicly questioned the fact that GPs write most antidepressant prescriptions? If not, is it because they believe GPs have enough knowledge and AD:s are safe, or is it because they don't want psychiatry to be solely responsible for the harms they cause?
After the damage of antidepressants, I think our nervous system is like a very thin, fragile drinking glass. Just one wrong movement or tap can break it into pieces. This parable might feel horryfying, at least it’s for me, so sorry for that, I still wanted to share it.
#PSSD
What we're going through is so absurd and unimaginable that we're mostly not believed. This doubles up the trauma and keeps finding a cure further away. How to live with this feeling of injustice and the fact that the whole society and global community have let us down?
#PSSD
@DrMcFillin
I never knew I gave up my human rights the moment I entered the doctor’s office. Nobody cares what was done to us because it was done with legal medicine. One cannot castrate people and chemically amputate their genitals and get away with in any other setting than healthcare.
”I got on antidepressants at 10, and got off at 16. I’ve never known what it was like to have a crush, or enjoy sex, or want it at all. I have always felt numb. I got off antidepressants to begin with because I was concerned I had never felt such things by 16. Nothing changed.”
In Memoriam ”He told me he was “chemically castrated and chemically lobotomized” from the SSRI’s. He stated he felt like a walking zombie that there was no mind/body connection.”
What psychiatrists do is abuse of power and child abuse. They get away with it because they have machinery (Pharma & the Profession) behind them. But an individual is always responsible for their actions. A lay person doing the same would go to prison. Psychiatrists are cowards.
Warning people about the dangers of SSRI:s shouldn’t be the responsibility of the ones suffering of PSSD in the first place. Taking care of patient safety is the responsibility of our governments.

Psychiatrists
A) Have never seen any of their patients having had PSSD
B) When they come across PSSD patients in Twitter they deny their experience
C) They ask for scientific proof while having ignored all scientific research on PSSD since 2006.

Sexual dysfunction while on AD:s is even more common, 97 %.
This is one of the most comprehensive study on the subject.
”Among this sub-sample, 95.6% of women and 97.9% of men exhibited impairment in at least one phase of sexual functioning.”
1/2 Some people think us getting PSSD is justified because some benefit from SSRIs. But even for the benefit of others, violation of someone’s human rights isn’t justified in the human rights framework. Not even to save someone’s life. Human rights are universal.

And isn’t it ironic that women take them to be able to have penetrative sex, yet it often makes them not to want to have sex. So they’re very effective as a birth control indeed. Besides they can affect who you fall in love to.
After the first report of permanent sexual dysfunction following discontinuation, SSRIs should either have been removed from the market or given with informed consent only. But even when we are thousands, we still don’t matter. We are just anecdotes and statistics.

It’s beyond absurd that one prescription can ruin your whole life and affect the future course of your life. You’re robbed of the basic longing to share your life with a romantic partner, and you're likely not to become a parent—all because of a drug you didn’t even need.

No matter how loud you say it or how much you repeat it, it doesn’t become true. It may make people to believe in it, that’s why they repeat it, but it still doesn’t become true. Propaganda is what it is.
”while 30% of those who responded were suicidal before starting medication, 60% became suicidal after stopping so that this means for 30% of people they will experience being suicidal for the first time in their lives because of withdrawal effects.”
The use of depression 💊 causes changes to the body & the result of this change of the cell structures is that once a user has stopped the depression 💊 this can cause withdrawal effects & these can last months or years after the drug has left the system.
I wonder could Orwell have imagined in 1949 that at some point in the future, there would be a drug causing this, and that nearly 25% of some demographic subset would be prescribed that? And that for some the effect would possibly be permanent?

Why doesn’t the warning say what PSSD actually is and that it can last for decades / be permanent? Why aren’t genital numbness and anorgasmia/pleasureless orgasm mentioned in the actual warning? I didn’t see genital numbness mentioned in 4.8. either. The warning is very vague.

You are right, this definitely should as we've been ripped off of no more than our whole humanity. Another trauma that adds up to this is the lack of attention we get. This is a human rights issue and a political matter. Thank you for taking interest on the issue.

We need psychiatry (we don’t) to help people survive with their mental issues. Then we need a ton of other services to help people who where in contact with psychiatry. Too often, people don’t regain their health and self after psychiatric treatment. Is there any sense in this?
”Dr Ben Davis, said: “There are people for whom they are life-saving medication.” This is horribly misleading. Depression drugs don’t save anybody’s lives. They kill people, in large numbers. In the elderly, presumably mostly because of falls and hip fractures.”

Most people think that doctors do the best for the health of their patients, but they don’t really care about their health. They just blindly treat illnesses and ”illnesses” with whatever the Pharma sponsored studies or guidelines based on Pharma studies say.
”studies funded by the pharmaceutical industry found that antidepressants had no impact on suicide risk at all (risk ratio 0.96). In contrast, studies performed by independent researchers found that antidepressants doubled suicide risk (risk ratio 2.02).”
Why is there almost no discussion on Twitter Psych of this excellent study? It points to one of the bleakest ironies in modern mental health - that SSRI antidepressants may be linked to increased suicide risk. Please retweet to try help turn this around!

Do you know what the percentage of women using antidepressants in the UK is? The harm caused by antidepressants is a gendered issue, as women are prescribed antidepressants about twice as often as men.
@Aerea_caeles
You can get PSSD from 1 pill and there’s nothing a doctor can do about it after that. AD:s are prescribed very lightly. Even that wouldn’t be a problem, if people where told about the risks and could decide themselves. None of us having PSSD would’ve taken the risk if we knew.
@Rebecca99LT
What would you as a non-sufferer call a state/procedure where all that makes you a human -feelings, emotions, pleasure and sexuality- is taken away from you? What’s the term for something that’s worse than being lobotomised and castrated?
@DrJessTaylor
Thank you for raising awareness. I have been suffering from this for over 20 years. Life with this condition is inhumane. This should never be done to anyone. I though for many years I was the only one in the world for whom SSRI:s had done this.We deserve recognition and a cure.
