In 1916, Russian imperial adviser and mystic Grigori Rasputin was murdered. He was poisoned, shot four times, badly beaten, and eventually drowned

For some reason,

deactivated my comment.
I'm sure it was an honest mistake.
Feel free to repost you're own version when, sorry, if it happens again.

Darlington - made an example of by the FA and booted down to the lowest level above Sunday league. To get back to NL North and in their own ground in the town is incredible. Wouldn't have happened to a London club BTW
Why are they bending over backwards not to publish the Teesworks corruption report before May?
If you can't guess, I've got a brand new hospital to sell you.
The Teesworks report concludes decisions made at the site "do not meet standards expected when managing public funds".
It makes 28 recommendations to improve governance and transparency for the project.

@Morning_Joe
I thought of your flight 93 election thread from yesterday watching that appalling Gorka display in the Rose Garden yesterday - especially "normalising ghastly social and cultural changes that poison the political ecosystem" - literally happening before us in real time
@TeessideLive
Finally decided to cover it have you?
You have been derelict in your duty to your readers and Teesside as a whole by ignoring the biggest financial scandal we've seen here for decades.
The facts are clear, private eye have the evidence & it's about time you did your jobs.

The chutzpah to deny them on competitiveness grounds in a championship containing Haas and a Red Bull JUNIOR team is breathtaking.
Although I always suspected they'd be let in one minute after the next concord agreement is signed.
But this is such a bad look for the sport.
@TeessideLive
Ignore the Sunderland decoy. Gove misrepresents the facts saying Houchen has brought in private money to remediate the land.
He hasn't. We've all paid for it and he gave it to a company ran by a pair of his donors for £100.
One of whom's son bought a Rolls Royce this week.
@Samfr
Similar to Trump in that it highlights how weak the system of safeguards, norms, guidelines & traditions is when confronted with an individual whose response is "make me"

thanks for following the scandals while our own local media were consciously blind-eyeing them.
I'd go so far as to say that without their work Steve Gibson says nowt.
As Teesside is trending, I'm reminded of this front page, described by politicians up there at the time as a 'temper tantrum' - It was the day I decided to poke my nose in, and hire a specialist. I said then 'this is the preface to everything that comes next'...

@ClarkeMicah
No one's disputing that but they are, rightly, disputing that they joined the party because it was left wing.
By 1938 it was clearly the "join us and don't get murdered" party.
@SkySportsF1
Big fat No to Qatar and Vegas. Don't need another boring desert race or a fad one.
Would rather see France back, Portugal/Germany in and South Africa.
@FBAwayDays
All 3 north east clubs are tremendous away. The hardcore of them all is about the same size but Sunderland and Newcastle are big city clubs with wider catchment areas. The population of Middlesbrough alone is 120,000.
In case people forgot that the current Cleveland PCC was actually fired from a job for Handling Stolen Goods!
Maybe he misunderstood the crime part of the job experience?

Massive failure of scrutiny - this means you

and sadly I have to include

in that criticism too.
A national scandal unfolds on your doorstep & you've both been asleep at the wheel & let the people of

down.
Re: Teesworks there has been such a massive failure of every single part of the machinery of scrutiny.
My guess is nobody was paying attention and then it started to look too complicated to bother with and people are scared of dealing with it.
I'm raising a glass tonight to all the anti-corruption & grift twits for all their tenacity & efforts.
Getting strong Teesworks editorials out of the Echo & the Gazette in the same week after the past 2 years is a triumph.
With a special thanks to Deborah Meaden.
It worked.
🚨 BREAKING: Home Secretary James Cleverly appears to call Stockton North a "sh*t hole" after Sunak is asked why child poverty in the area is at 34%
"Because it's a sh*t hole"
@Peston
Why did he intervene in Middlesbrough after a majority of the Council voted against creating a Mayoral Development Committee - but he decided to overule democracy and impose one - transferring swathes of council owned land to an appointed quango for a paltry £18m?
So Tory metro mayor Ben Houchen called Andy McDonald a 'coward' who'd get sued if he said any of recent Commons criticism of this outside Parliament. Presumably the letter before action is already with Private Eye, then? Or not...
@madridfooty_
Also, Vieira, Anelka and Henry turn up at Arsenal as skinny teenagers that can't get near their respective first teams.
Within 18 months they've turned into superhuman avengers and people still believe its because of "broccoli"

Just started reading it again. As you know, it took 37 days from Archduke Ferdinand's death to German boots in Luxembourg and Belgium.
37 days.
