I am running for re-election to the 28th Assembly District. I would be humbled and honored to have your support. The Primary is March 5. Make a plan to vote!
Life is full of hellos and goodbyes. Endings & beginnings. After 35 years of public service, it is time for me to go! Dec. 30 is my last day as SC County Clerk!! Looking forward to being a vocal & engaged citizen. New twitter handle coming soon. Can’t shut me up!!

Today’s task: these 7500 ballots have been checked in and opened. We are now ready to extract the ballots, inspect them for damage, and then scan them. We do not tally until after 8pm on

Any CA voter can return their ballot to any CA drop box or voting location. This rainbow of ballots were turned in to

For the record, a dog did NOT register & vote in our county. Our office takes allegations of voter fraud very seriously & will investigate every report. Of course they did not call me about this claim. They just posted for 23k viewers. We do let dogs guard our VoteMobile!
104,226 ballots returned! Voter turnout is breaking all records! Santa Cruz County is showing up & making their voices heard. I always put my $1 in the office turnout pool on 100%, and this year we will be close! 2 more days of voting!

These are our official ballot drop boxes. They are bolted to the ground, locked with 3 separate locks & wired shut with a unique security seal. Teams of 2 empty them at least 1/day, more often as we get closer to

. Everything is documented. Any questions?
@FutureCAElect
Wow. Words cannot express how grateful I am for this week’s experience in Sacramento. To have my daughter, family, friends, and team behind me while being sworn in as your Assemblymember was remarkable and something that I will never forget. Thank you all for believing in me.
#TeamGail
is ready for this incredible day where I will be sworn in as the first women from Santa Cruz County elected to a state office. I may be the first, but I won’t be the last!
My heart is full of gratitude to the voters and team who made this day possible.
#OnwardTogether
I was questioned again today whether we only count vote-by-mail ballots in tight elections. That’s NONSENSE!! We count all ballots cast from qualified voters. And we audit them! That’s why we have 28 days to certify the pres election!
#StopSpreadingFakeNews
I will always defend my voters like a mama bear! 🐻 Someone was holding signs, shouting at voters just 10 feet from our ballot drop box today. I told him he had to move. He wasn’t happy. Got my name & is going to report me.

#LetMyVotersVoteinPeace
So far the preliminary results are incredibly encouraging. Though there are still more votes to count, I am deeply honored by the amount of support I have received. I am so grateful to my family, friends, supporters, campaign staff and all the voters who made their voices heard.
Today is the day! The board of supervisors will say their goodbyes to me and hello to our new County Clerk Tricia Webber!! I so excited for both of our futures.

We have certified our Nov. 3 election results. Record number of voters! 146,857 or 86.13% of our 170,514 registered voters. Thank you voters for showing up and making your voices heard! Info is posted on
Truly a wonderful day to be recognized by my county Board of Supervisors! Thank you so much for your kind words and the proclamation. My heart is full of gratitude!

And my takeaway… a homeless person with a communication barrier gets the severity and risk of COVID-19 better than the unvaccinated folks out there. Smart guy.
I am so grateful for our former Senator Jim Beall’s leadership on mental health. Mental health has profoundly impacted my family and it’s one of my top priorities. I’m beyond honored to have earned Jim Beall’s endorsement of my election to the State Assembly.
Advice when I was first hired in 1993: “Your job is to count votes accurately.” That’s what I and my fellow local elections officials throughout the nation have always done & will continue to do. Stay strong LEOs! Accuracy over speed. So proud of my profession.
#CountEveryVote
Thank you to everyone who conquered the rain and joined us this evening after voting ended. The results are still rolling in, but we have a solid lead and we are confident that we will be shattering the glass ceiling.
Hey voters! If you are currently in one state but have a ballot for your home state, you need to mail it. We are happy to mail these 3 out of state ballots that we found in our drop boxes. Best to read your state rules about returning your ballot & follow them!

I had a great day of informative meetings in Sacramento last week that was topped off by an evening celebrating
@Alex_lee
’s 27th birthday! Our future is bright with young leaders like Alex!
It certainly felt like 100%!
126,424 ballots counted last night = 74.14%. Estimated 18,000 ballots left to process. Even though we have a record number of voters, due to our record # of registrants, looks like we will not break our record of 86.7% set in 2008.

Got to meet my new coworker Bri Kahn

This darling couple was in to get their marriage license & didn’t know when they would be able to get married. I said “Let’s do it now!” No rings? No problem! We had cable ties! (we use them to lock ballot boxes.) Love will always find a way.

Fourteen years ago today, I had the honor of putting on the greatest wedding day event. The California Supreme Court found on June 16, 2008 that barring same-sex couples from marriage violated the State Constitution. We had a few weddings and licenses on June 16…
The community braved the rain tonight to celebrate Assemblymember Mark Stone’s remarkable record of public service. He has always been a champion for the environment, children and justice. I’ve got big shoes to fill! Thank you Mark. And, please pick up when I call!!
To check your signature on your ballot envelope we must first rip the tab that covers and keeps it secret while it travels from you to us! The sound of paper ripping fills our office! With 170,000 voters now, (WOW!) I am hoping we will do this 170,000 times!

Saddened to hear of former Secretary of State Collin Powell’s death due to COVID-19 complications. I’m reminded of his 13 rules of leadership that I have often applied to my career and my life.
He was a great man and leader.
Officially filed papers to run for the 28th Assembly District today in both Santa Clara County and Santa Cruz County. I hope I can count on your support and your vote on June 7th. Please click below to get involved or to make an endorsement!
Today’s the day!! I’m so excited for

conference in Sacramento! A room filled with people who care passionately about fair, accurate, accessible and secure elections. It just doesn’t get any better!!
Started my day w/some tears as a gentleman w/a purple heart cap came in w/a gift for me. I went to his home in 2015 to marry him & his now wife who was on a ventilator & unable to travel. This is what I love & will miss! Being a part of people’s lives at key moments. XO

A legend is leaving

after 31 years of public service! Thank you Martin for keeping our votes secure and counted accurately! You are truly one in a million. XO
We knew this was coming, but hearing the news this morning that
#SCOTUS
has overturned a right to safe and legal abortion for half our population is devastating. This is the first time a constitutional right has been taken away. We will fight back.
I had a poll worker today who was helping a voter in a walker get to the voting area. He declined curbside voting. He tired, she got him a chair & water. And, together, they went 20 steps, then rested. 20 steps. Rest. Until he made it inside & voted.

If we elect leaders who support gun reforms, safe schools, strengthening public safety, reproductive rights, affordable & quality health care & mental health care, voting rights, marriage equality, then we will get communities that reflect those values. Be a voter.
One of my favorite voters!! Of course I checked to make sure my daughter turned her ballot in! My son promises to drop his at a drop box in LA. 100% voter turnout in my household! How about yours?

Thank you to everyone who came to the ceremonial swearing-in and celebration on Friday night in Santa Cruz. The weather outside was cold but the feeling inside was warm, as I was able to be joined by so many friends, neighbors and family!
Truly humbled by the group that came out to support the campaign last night! Thank you to everyone who joined us - our hosts Craig Haney & Aida Hurtado, Senator John Laird, & Assemblymembers Matt Haney, Robert Rivas, Mark Stone, Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, Cristina Garcia, & Ash Kalra.

Actually, there’s tons of evidence that voter fraud is extremely rare. Trump’s own voter fraud commission and the Bush DOJ couldn’t find any evidence of widespread fraud, and the lack of fraud is confirmed by R & D sec’ys of state all over the country.

Democracy can only thrive if elected officials involve the community in solving the problems we face. I want to work with you to solve problems.
I prefer "Why CA goes the extra mile to make sure voters are enfranchised & ballots are counted accurately" to "Why CA takes so long to count ballots" But, it's a good explanation of one of our tasks. The law gives us 30 days. I hope you give us patience.
