Back in 1921, William and Sarah Rankin noted on their Census return that they have no children, along with 'better luck next census'. We found Sarah's maiden name and used it to find one child: William R Rankin, born in 1922. That wish, now preserved for all time, came true.

Who else grew up with The Tale of Peter Rabbit, or Jemima Puddle-Duck? We spotted children's author Beatrix Potter under her married name, Helen Beatrix Heelis, in the #1921Census . She's living with her husband William. Interestingly, her occupation is listed as a farmer.

If you look really closely at J.R.R. Tolkien's #1921Census record, you'll notice he wrote it first in pencil, erased it, and then completed it in ink. We kind of love the idea of Tolkien, whose script is so distinctive, practicing his handwriting ❤️ 👉

59-year-old Edward made some heartwarming comments on his #1921Census return. He noted himself as the 'head and tail', that he was widowed and orphaned, that he was born in Compton Dando (but he doesn't tell everyone that), and details about his carpentry skills.

Unfortunately she was born on 1st Sept 1921 so she doesn't appear on it but her parents (photo) and 3 older siblings do. She has created the family book herself
