Re: Fans wanting Son to skip the
#AsianCup
.
South Korea have historically been an Asian powerhouse, but the Asian Cup has been our Achilles' heel.
This might be our best chance to win it & end the drought.
Son has sacrificed a lot for Tottenham, he deserves this chance.
Son Heung-min is easily a Premier League legend.
Puskas winner
Golden Boot winner
116 goals & 58 assists in the EPL alone (without taking many penalties or free kicks)
One of the best finishers in history
Unbelievable goal catalogue
This is a Premier League legend in my eyes. I will never penalise him for not moving clubs to seek trophies. There is no winger in world football whose finishing is as clean as his. And now he is even creating chances at an elite rate. I will make sure they understand his class.
After scoring a goal & shushing the home fans, Son just walking off and smiling while an angry Chinese player grabs him was iconic.
Reminds me of Park Ji-sung's legendary celebration against Japan at Saitama Stadium.
No words necessary.
#손흥민
One thing you can't deny is that this South Korean team has heart.
Scoring in extra time to come back in BACK TO BACK 120 minute games says a lot about this team's mentality. They never give up.
Unbelievably proud of this team. Take a bow.

Lee Kang-in's legal representative just released a statement that Lee Kang-in never swung a fist at Son Heung-min.
Like I've been saying, we needed to be patient & wait for the details. Speculation only hurts the players.
Whoever made up that rumor needs to be investigated.
It's hard to believe that this is Lee Kang-in's first Asian Cup.
3 goals (4th)
1 assist (should have way more)
6 big chances created (1st)
17 chances created (1st)
3.4 key passes per game
2 game tying or go-ahead goals
The scary thing is that he's not even at his best.
#이강인
The toxicity of Korean football.
1. Sensationalist headlines go viral w/ the media manipulating Korean netizens' emotions.
2. Netizens all over the country (and world) overreact without waiting for all the facts to come out.
3. Calls for cancellations/boycotts.
Wishing Kim Seung-gyu all the best🙏
Now South Korea has to rally around its new starting GK (most likely Jo Hyeon-woo).
Jo Hyeon-woo has produced in big tournaments before, hopefully he has a little magic left to help lead 🇰🇷 to the

I've seen some crazy tweets on this app that have gone viral. But I just saw one saying that Tomiyasu is the best Asian footballer to ever play in the EPL.
1A. Park Ji-sung 1B. Son Heung-min
End of.
Proud of Son & Kang-in for handling things like adults & hashing things out. Sometimes conflicts make teams stronger.
Now we move together as a team & can focus on what really matters.
Get Chung Mong-kyu out & get the right people in the KFA.
Re: Lee Kang-in
What makes this frustrating is that NO ONE-apart from the team & staff-should have ever found out about it.
If there was a bust up, it's between LKI & the team to work things out.
It's wild that LKI is being targeted when we STILL don't know the full story.

(Need to vent.)
Reminder:
-lack of respect for K-League
-questionable player selection
-some 🇰🇷 players insinuating Klinsmann's lack of tactics
-having Zoom meetings w/ media bc he was overseas 90% of the time
-making punditry appearances on ESPN while skipping KNT media apps
I try to be fair & give constructive criticism on players and managers, especially if I feel they are trying their hardest.
But I make exceptions for people like Klinsmann who has disrespected the job since day 1.
Wouldn't blame him if he retired from the KNT.
Lee Kang-in already apologized to those who actually matter. That's the important thing. The team already moved on weeks ago.
Sickening to see him taking the fall for something that could've been resolved behind closed doors.
I don't even know where to start.
Shout out to Lee Kang-in for coming through w/ an assist & yet another clutch goal.
But as for Klinsmann, this golden generation deserves a better manager.
This 🇰🇷 team hasn't gotten anywhere close to its full potential.

I don't know whether that story about Son & Kang-in fighting over ping pong is true, but we need to be patient & wait for more information.
When Son & Kim Min-jae had a little falling out, fans were at each other's throats. But Son & KMJ settled it like adults in the end.
Several underrated 🇰🇷 players who deserve a shout out:
Seol Young-woo has been one of our most consistent players in the AC. Most created chances among all players (4) last night.
Kim Young-gwon has helped settle the back line w/ his passing. Most passes completed (134 @ 92%).
🇰🇷⚽ made the list of the best 100 Male Footballers of 2023 by the Guardian.
Son Heung-min (24)
Kim Min-jae (37)
Obviously I'm going to be biased, but both seem low to me 🤷
Lee Kang-in is the present & future of 🇰🇷⚽.
Glad to see him having fun again & playing well for
#PSG
after a tumultuous Asian Cup.
Scored a beautiful goal & was vital in PSG's build up play. Brilliant technique on display today.
Pep Guardiola is going to have nightmares about "The Korean Guys"
Hwang Hee-chan (Oct. 1) GW goal
Son Heung-min (Dec. 4) 1 goal 1 assist
Hwang In-beom (Dec. 14) 1 goal 1 assist

Messi won his first major international trophy with Argentina in 2021 (Copa America) when he was 34.
Similarly, Son Heung-min at 31 is also in search of his first major trophy for 🇰🇷.
Winning this Asian Cup would be huge for his legacy.
Son Heung-min goal
Lee Kang-in assist
Kim Min-jae assist
Our Big 3 came up big tonight, especially in the second half.
Special shout out to Lee Jae-sung, who probably doesn't get enough love as he should. Works incredibly hard every game.
Seeing some worrying patterns here with Klinsmann & his management style.
-Little interest or respect towards domestic league
-No accountability for mistakes (i.e. blamed refs after Malaysia match)
-Arrogance with European bias
The Klinsmann Era ends.
The KFA's job is to put these players in the best position to win. By hiring him, they did exactly the opposite.
Can't believe Klinsmann was hired for one of Son's last chances at a big international trophy. The KFA have let him & the players down.
Seeing some worrying patterns here with Klinsmann & his management style.
-Little interest or respect towards domestic league

This was an absolutely filthy ball from Kang-in btw.
Just the vision alone was incredible, but the weight of the pass was perfect as well.
Lots of bodies in that area, so this was not an easy pass to make.
If you told me 20 years ago that TWO South Koreans would one day be among the top 5
#EPL
scorers, I would've had a hard time believing you.
P. S.
Note that both Son Heung-min & Hwang Hee-chan have not scored any penalties 👀
@BeGriffis
Ugh, sick of this narrative that South Korea wanted to drop points. Give credit to Malaysia, we wanted to win this game.
Unfortunately we have Klinsmann on our touchline.

❌ BREAKING: Korean National Team goalkeeper Kim Seung-Gyu has torn a cruciate ligament in his knee and is OUT for the tournament.
A terrible, terrible blow for both player and our KNT. Praying for a speedy recovery 🙏
Paik Seung-ho is betting on himself with his move to Birmingham City.
Technically gifted midfielder formerly of La Masia capable of scoring goals from distance or on set pieces. Hope he does well back in Europe!
My thoughts on him in the quoted tweet below:
#BCFC
Paik Seung-ho is a European quality midfielder, but is a bit of a tweener.
Solid passer, but can be inconsistent. Good in tight spaces, but not elite. Gives effort, but not defensive minded.
Hope he picks the right move, not just the high profile move.
Goals aside, Lee Kang-in utterly dominated the Bahrain game with his dribbling, slick turns, vision & passing.
One of the most dominant individual performances for 🇰🇷 in a meaningful game in recent memory.
91% passing
3 big chances created
8/12 dribbles
I can't wait for this circus to be over so we can focus on football. Tired of talking about Klinsmann, KFA & Chung Mong-gyu every day.
I'm just a guy who loves scouting players & writing about football.
Don't want to spend my day talking about ping pong fights 😭
A true underdog story.
Started his professional career with K3/Korea National League side Daejeon Korail in 2017.
Now he just scored a goal for South Korea in a World Cup Qualifier.
Son Heung-min is still somehow underrated. For whatever reason, you rarely hear his name among the all-time greats in the EPL.
He's one of the most clinical finishers in EPL history, and 90% of his goals are bangers.
Big difference between Bento & Klinsmann.
Bento had a plan. He made playing out of the back a priority, made tough decisions like dropping Jo Hyeon-woo for Kim Seung-gyu.
Bento deserved time even after disappointing at the AC bc he had a philosophy.
Kim Min-jae:
-Hasn't started in a month
-Playing next to low confidence Upamecano & behind the worst Bayern midfield I've seen in years
-Missed a month for Asian Cup, lost time to build chemistry w/ a CB partner.
Frankly, it doesn't matter what people say about him rn.
In only two games, Son Heung-min & Lee Kang-in have combined for four goals & three assists in South Korea's 2026 World Cup Qualifiers so far.
Personally hoping for an Lee Kang-in assist for a Son Heung-min goal vs Thailand.
🏓 goal celebration would be hilarious.
Contrary to popular opinion, one bad game doesn't make a player bad.
Kim Min-jae's been handed some bad timing/luck that led to his benching & his confidence being shot. Players are human.
I have the utmost faith in him to bounce back. 🇰🇷🧱
The last time South Korea won the
#AsianCup
:
-John F. Kennedy was still alive.
-The Beatles were a new band.
-The Berlin Wall didn't exist.
-No human had entered outer space.
-MLK Jr. hadn't given his "I Have a Dream" speech.
🇰🇷 is long overdue for a trophy.
End this curse.
While everyone was watching the Super Bowl, I was watching Rio Ferdinand & Patrice Evra telling Park Ji-sung that he's not doing enough to bring more Koreans to Manchester United 😂
Kim Min-jae & Son Heung-min name dropped as missed opportunities.
🇰🇷⚽ in Europe this past week:
Yang Hyun-jun assist
Lee Han-beom goal, penalty won & a goal line clearance to save the game 📈
Cho Gue-sung goal
Kim Min-jae assist
Bae Jun-ho goal
Lee Jae-sung assist
Son Heung-min goal
Hwang In-beom goal
Not too shabby.
Is it bad that I actually like this? He's speaking facts in the article.
If 🇰🇷 wants to be the best in Asia, we can't just sit back & expect results w/o laying the groundwork for success.
Make him the head of the KFA. The man lives & breathes ⚽, we need someone like him.
A few things to take away from this compilation:
1. Asian players can ball & deserve more respect.
2. That diving header by Park Ji-sung vs Liverpool sums up why he's my favorite player of all-time. Fearless & clutch.
3. Son has one of the best goal compilations ever.
@PremLeaguePanel
He scored a hat trick last week on only 27 touches. A goal per 9 touches.
One of the most clinical finishers we have ever seen in the EPL.
We need more football minds in the KFA who actually care about the future of 🇰🇷⚽, not businessmen who put their own personal ambitions ahead of the collective.
Chung Mong-kyu needs to resign. Make Son's dad the head of the KFA & have him lead a committee to drain the swamp.
Chung Mong-kyu decided not to attend a committee meeting to analyze South Korea’s
#AsianCup2023
campaign and the future of Jurgen Klinsmann
If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen 🔥
I try to be fair & give constructive criticism on players and managers, especially if I feel they are trying their hardest.
But I make exceptions for people like Klinsmann who has disrespected the job since day 1.
The HOT, Shinhwa, Sech Kies, & GOD old school K-pop fans have now evolved to KNT nuna fans.
This happened every time the camera went on Seol Young-woo, Lee Kang-in, Cho Gue-sung, or Son Heung-min yesterday.
Park Hang-seo is a legend in Vietnam.
Shin Tae-yong leads Indonesia to the R16 in the Asian Cup for the first time in its history.
Kim Pan-gon with a historic result for Malaysia vs South Korea.
South Korean managers 🤝 SEA
Exactly my point.
Defense is what's keeping South Korea from realizing its true potential as a footballing nation.
A NT manager should be trying to unearth hidden gems, players to fit their philosophy.
Instead he's off to Europe to scout players we already know plenty about.
@fadeawaytreytak
A HUGE problem for the national team is when the DEFENSE, this side's biggest issue, plays exclusively in Korea and Asia except for Minjae
Not doing a detailed scouting of your defensive pool cripples player selection abilities. Cha DR must scout more defenders in person.
South Korea need to start Lee Kang-in & Hong Hyun-seok together. They are two of 🇰🇷's best press-resistant creative players.
Hong Hyun-seok has been severely underutilized so far at this Asian Cup.
Add in a more natural DM to help Hwang In-beom defend.

Tactical masterclass by Jordan.
They understood you have to keep pressing & attacking South Korea instead of sitting back.
They attacked our weakness in build-ups & our lack of pace in defense (esp. without Kim Min-jae).
The

drought continues.
People are starting to notice how good Lee Kang-in really is.
Reminder: last season he had the 2nd most successful dribbles in La Liga at an insane 67.2% success rate.
In fact, he had the best % among all qualifying players (>100 attempts) in the top 5 European leagues.
#PSG
If Kim Min-jae is a defensive monster, Lee Kang-in is a dribbling monster.
People need to watch this man ball. Easily Man of the Match despite South Korea currently losing to Peru 1-0.
Another solid week for 🇰🇷⚽ in Europe:
Son Heung-min goal
Hwang Hee-chan game-tying goal
Hwang Eui-jo goal
Lee Kang-in trivela assist & a threat every time he touched the ball
Kim Min-jae aerial dominance (7/8 duels won) in 8-0 win
Gael Clichy was apparently blown away by the 🇰🇷 youth team that beat France 3-0 last year.
I don't blame him 😉
There were some ballers on that team. Eom Ji-sung, Kang Seong-jin, An Jae-jun, Jeong Sang-bin, Hong Yun-sang, etc.
Son Heung-min ✔️
Santi Cazorla ✔️
But genuinely two-footed players are something of an enigma. Why is that? And does it matter?

I've been making this list throughout the past year for my own scouting purposes.

⭐- not necessarily the best, but ones I'll be watching closely
🇰🇷 attackers are starting to catch fire again.
Son Heung-min w/ a goal (technically two goals) & an assist away at Man City.
Hwang Hee-chan GW goal.
Cho Gue-sung w/ a brace & an assist, placing him amongst the top goal scorers in the Superliga w/ 8 league goals.
Singapore isn't exactly France (credit to them in the first half though), but I swear to God we'd better not waste this golden generation of 🇰🇷⚽.

Some South Korean players at their absolute peak:
Bolton pre-injury Lee Chung-yong

Who else can you name?

-WHERE IS HONG HYUN-SEOK
-0 shots on 70% possession is unacceptable.

My Lee Han-beom agenda is alive 👀
To me he's the blueprint for what you want to see in an ideal partner next to KMJ at CB.
Instead of settling for the easy pass all the time, he's great at getting the ball to midfielders & forwards to relieve pressure off the defense.
The fans' KFA Goal of the Year for 2023 was this trademark Son Heung-min curler against Singapore.
It feels like he can make those in his sleep. Makes you wonder how many of his goals are finesse shots outside of the box.

South Korea needs more presence in midfield.
In EVERY game 🇰🇷 has played so far, we've lost the physical battles.
Bahrain: 57% duels won
Jordan: 53% duels won
Malaysia: 53% duels won
Hwang In-beom needs more help & Kim Min-jae can't do everything by himself in defense.
At one point in time, Kim Min-jae was the only South Korean CB in Europe.
Now Kim Ji-soo, Lee Han-beom, Hwang In-taek & Lee Ye-chan have joined him.
Adding in some solid K-Leaguers as well, suddenly the battle for the 2nd CB spot next to KMJ is looking like a bloodbath.

In 10-15 years time we will get the Son Heung-min autobiography & this Klinsmann reign/KFA debacle/Ping Pong-Gate will have an entire chapter or two dedicated to it.
(In all seriousness though, Son doesn't seem like the type to throw people under the bus publicly.)
KFA board will have a meeting tomorrow 10 am KR time to decide Klinsmann's fate.
Many Korean media reports there's no way he could avoid the sacking at this point.
As he left Korea in 2 days after Asian Cup, this Zoom screenshot could be his last photo as Korea head coach.
An idea I've been curious about is Lee Kang-in playing at false 9, kind of like how Guardiola used Messi at Barcelona.
Not saying he's the next Messi ofc (don't think anyone will ever be like him), but Lee Kang-in has the vision & technique to play a similar type of role.

My favorite thing about this interview was about how Lee Kang-in wants to be a leader.
You can tell that he wants to be "the guy" for South Korea.
Park Ji-sung passed on the torch to Son Heung-min. When the day comes, Lee Kang-in will be next.
In a recent interview with GQ Korea, Lee Kang-in mentioned that his footballing idol is Diego Maradona.
LKI said that he watched a lot of Maradona's highlights growing up & that Maradona's playing style & leadership greatly influenced him.
I can see that in the way he plays.

#4
:
Former Jeonbuk & K-League legend Lee Dong-gook is the all-time leading goalscorer (10) for South Korea in Asian Cups.
FYI Son Heung-min has 4 career Asian Cup goals.
Embarrassing behavior from the Jeonnam player (Kim Yong-hwan) to shove the female ref like that. He's lucky he didn't get sent off.
Interesting to note that Roh Kyung-ho & Kim Yong-hwan are both ex-Pohang Steelers.
Son's dad was right.
South Korea are being held back by its lack of investments & footballing infrastructure.
It's a miracle South Korea even made it to the semifinals with this corrupt & inept federation.
And even so, no one outside of the team has the right to know.
Why do fans or media have the right to know what happens inside locker rooms?
Stop making it Son vs. Lee Kang-in, they're adults & can talk things out.
Hopefully we can all move on from this fiasco soon.
He's one I've been monitoring in Incheon's academy. Expecting more immigrant or multiracial footballers will be coming up through South Korean youth academies over the next decade. Stay tuned!
🇰🇷🇷🇺 Arkadiy Romanovich Chalykh is making a lot of waves in South Korea.
He was born and raised in South Korea to Russian parents, and plays for the Incheon United academy.
The striker is 6’3 although he’s just turned 14. He received call-ups to South Korea U-14s this summer.
I knew that was going to be a goal the second Lee Kang-in got the ball in that position.

Ironically his parents named him after Park Ji-sung, and hopefully given time Eom can do great things like his namesake.
Congratulations & good luck to Eom Ji-sung on his European move 🙏
It's time for Son Heung-min to play up top for South Korea.
🇰🇷 are creating enough chances (23 shots vs Jordan & 14 shots vs Bahrain), but need to be more clinical.
4 big chances missed against Bahrain. Only 7/23 shots on target vs Jordan.
Have Son focus on scoring goals.
