Love this transition in @ghaywan 's Masaan. This is the confluence of the souls of Deepak & Devi. He has just experienced what she did in the very 1st scene - the death of a lover,of hope. Deepak, placed in the left corner looks towards the right, towards the vastness of Ganga...

Thinking of "October", and how Shiuli and Dan never have an actual conversation in the film. But even before the accident they have these brief few moments of sharing quiet looks, subtly setting up a quiet, wordless connection between them from the beginning of the film itself.

On the song "Jiya Jale" from Dil se - The line "Dekhte hain tan mera mann me chubhti hai nazar" is ofcourse meant as an expression of Preeti's desires, but look at the shot during that, how that verse becomes one from Amar's POV too as Meghna stares at him from a corner :

For #Jawan , the "we have seen this before" criticism is too simplistic. For a star vehicle, the narrative is just as much attached to the star's filmography arc too. So a lot of the joy of Jawan is just discovering how far can SRK's onscreen persona be stretched.

"Tu mere saamne" from Darr is so so well written. It's basically a creep's fantasy of a love song, so every line sung by the woman is submissive towards him - "Ek baar nahi sau baar kar le, jee bhar ke tu mujhe pyar kar le" for example. It's a love song that gives me the chills.

What I love about Shikayatein in Lootera is that it's the peak example of dramatization in film songs. On paper, you can simply write this as "Varun walks on to leave, but changes his mind and returns". With a song it becomes so much more, gets a different life.

Super Deluxe Fun Fact - What does @itisthatis 'Super Deluxe have to do with the 20th Century Russian composer Dmitri Shoshtakovich? Remember this scene just before the interval in Super Deluxe, when the boys end up having another TV set to be bought by them?

Alia Bhatt has now got a trilogy of films where she plays a woman with some trauma in her childhood/teenage, who then goes on to resolve her issues and gets a beautiful, heroic happy ending. "Highway","Dear Zindagi", and now "Gangubai Kathiawadi".

To think that Raju in GUIDE has a passion for showing things of beauty to people as a guide, then he watches Rosie dance and is left astounded at something beautiful he didn't know about, and will then do anything, fight anyone to help her show her talent to the world ❤️

Love how Munna in the "Lage raho munnabhai" song is so excited about seeing the woman he loves for the first time, that he sees only women in all public spaces, in all the job spaces mostly occupied by men: taxi drivers, the macho hero at a film set etc 🌸

One of my favourite things about movies is to watch how two strangers get to know each other slowly 🌸

Betting that Ranveer will pull this off! He's got the sex appeal for it, he's got twink but also the suspicious chameleon vibes who can be a cross between the hero or the villain, the required kaminapan, he plays a good con (kinda similar zone), he's going to be a good fit

Something's wrong in paradise : A thread on film songs that are happy but are contrasted with something sad happening to the characters at the same time - "Aane char aane"(Lage raho Munnabhai) - Munna is at the peak of finding a family while their home is destroyed by his men.

When you realise that the grand ending scene of "Gangubai Kathiawadi" is only this Rani Mukherjee moment from "Saawariya" done on an even bigger scale.

Aditya Srivastava as Badshah Khan in Anurag Kashyap's "Black Friday". Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" is one of @anuragkashyap72 's favorite films, & I always felt Badshah Khan was in a way his own version of Travis Bickle, a lonely man with a mission wandering in the city.

"Tere mere dil ka tay tha ik din milna, jaise bahar aane pe tay hai phool ka khilna" Love how the shot begins with her alone, as she tries to get away from him, but then the camera moves & they appear to merge visually as Raju sings the above lines to her.
