“Monkey Man” might not make it to Indian cinemas in one piece if the studio capitulates to potential CBFC demands, and there is the possibility, given the movie’s themes and symbolism, that it may not be released in India at all:

In this one shot in GUIDE, the camera looks down at Dev, then swivels up to catch a reflection in a mirror of Waheeda standing below, swivels right to catch a climbing Dev's reflection in another mirror, and then further right to see him at the window, looking down at Waheeda

Your favourite film is Zanjeer? It's not on streaming. Pather Panchali? Cropped. Chupke Chupke? Missing 17 minutes. Mughal-e-Azam? Colourized. The print of Amar Akbar Anthony you saw in cinemas? Cropped. My cover on the war on old Indian cinema:

Here's a depressing thought. If you're under 35, it's likely you've never seen Amar Akbar Anthony in its proper form. Shemaroo's version (left), on Prime and in theatres two years ago, is 16:9, cropped from 4:3 (right). Makes Manmohan Desai look like a bum who couldn't frame

Karishma Tanna isn't bad in Scoop but she's constantly 'on'. I'm increasingly noticing Hindi actors who give the impression of being hyper aware of the camera. You can see it when they're reacting to other actors in a scene; they draw attention to themselves when they shouldn't

These two scenes from SATYA are a neat example of consistency in writing. Chander uses the same 'TV, fridge' construction when showing Satya his new flat and telling the gang members a joke. A little detail that suggests Chander keeps working over his material like a comic
