Harry Colt on Centreline Bunkers: ‘This class of bunker is always open to criticism from the man who hits a long, straight shot down the centre of the course, without having sufficient intelligence… to know the proper line is to the left or to the right. He deserves no sympathy.

Isle of Barra Golf Club has 16 members. It’s a great little 9 hole course. There is one hole that is definitely hill climbing… the other 8 are quite good! The 2nd photo is the view from the 5th tee. Aim left of the cliffs and hit it as far as you can… the land opposite is 🤯

Iona Golf Course on the Isle of Iona is impressive. Pure, raw golf in the more basic form. Unbelievable beauty and great golf. Time machine to 1890-1939… pure sand and sheep 🐑 keeping the green and creating bunkers. Slight wind, no clouds and about 15*C. Perfection.

Sunningdale in 1911! @Sunningdale_GC Shown here is the 4th green with the 5th and 6th as it was then. It was the same year the 9 hole ‘Chauffeurs Course’ would be built. It would be another 12 years before the #HarryColt ’s New Course would open for play.

The best heathland you never heard of? Purdis Heath was a revelation and work every mile in the M25 and A12 from London. I’m still pondering it over but here’s my initial thoughts…

An exciting find by one of our greenkeepers clearing gorse on the Old Course today. An original March Stone, which marked the boundary of the course. Marked "G" on one side for golf! These are covered and preserved on the course so look out for them on your next visit.

After a year of quiet contemplation, I can admit the greatest golf course I’ve seen is without question the Old Course at St Andrews. The best golf course? Royal Melbourne West. The quality is simply staggering. NGLA & Pine Valley amongst a few others are yet to be enjoyed.

Nairn @NairnGolfClub was simply superb. Expansive views and a halfway house without compare. Perfect day for persimmons, blades and a half set. With a lot of options in the Highlands, Nairn exceeded already high expectations.

Happy to report we have photos of every one of Harry Colt’s holes @StGeorgesHillGC pre WW2 with the vast majority during construction & grow-in (1912-3) & prior to WW1 in 1914. This is in addition to as-built surveys, aerials from the early 1920’s along with maps and routings. 🤌🏻
