I’m celebrating 20 years today of broadcasting at breakfast on
@itv
. Hard to believe it’s been two decades of globetrotting, hostile environments, history making stories & lots of fun. Oh, and getting up at silly o’clock. Thanks to all
@GMB
for making it a milestone to remember.
Sunrise in Southport. A scene of devastation surrounding the mosque on St Luke’s Road after an angry mob attacked police last night. Bricks, bottles, fireworks sit alongside bits of a burnt out police vehicle - metal melted in the heat.
@GMB
And now, the community clear up. A local construction company deployed men and machines in Southport, locals turning out with brooms and wheelbarrows to clear the debris.
@GMB
Heartbreaking to hear
@kategarraway
, describing the painful reality of watching & waiting for her husband Derek to recover from the devastating effects of coronavirus. Our wonderful colleague and friend showing so much strength and courage
@GMB
Thanks for all the kind messages - it’s not until you screw up you realise how kind people can be. Total brain freeze
@GMB
. Will thaw it out by tomorrow. Promise. X
“War is war, but flowers still need to be planted” - the view of a Kyiv city gardener, bringing spring colour to the city. She’s hopeful that conflict will be over soon and wants the capital looking beautiful again.

Aftermath of violence in Tamworth shows how a mob smashed their way into a hotel used by asylum seekers, tried to set fire to it with them and staff inside. Petrol bombs, fireworks, bricks and other missiles were thrown at police. The building is covered in racist graffiti.
@GMB
One witness, part of a group involved in the trouble, explained to staff that things kicked off when another passenger appeared dressed as a clown. This upset one of their party because they’d specifically booked a cruise with no fancy dress. It led to a violent confrontation.
Ukrainian woman says to captured Russian soldier’s mother: “Natasha, everything is okay, do you hear me? Go ahead and speak. That's it, Natasha, good luck to you and may God be with you. Everything is okay. Later you will be contacted. Right now he is well and alive…”
Ukrainians are being forced to make dramatic decisions about their futures under extreme pressure. A helping hand from Britain would be a life line to many in immediate need. Personally, I’m ashamed to learn that just 50 refugee visas for the UK have been granted so far.
The BEST news: After 42 days in ICU with

our friend Jo is finally home, and the village turned out to welcome her back.
Applause for Jo, but also the incredible staff at

I fear, very soon, all of us will be touched by the

. My elderly Uncle died today- tested positive for

Very much appreciate concern being expressed for our safety in Kyiv. Hopefully this little video will alleviate any worries about our current situation whilst doing our

Britannia left staff who intervened injured, as passengers used furniture and plates as weapons. Witnesses told me they were so frightened they had to hide, as family groups fought.

Deeply saddened to hear that Lynn Faulds Wood has died. A tireless campaigner for UK consumers and for bowel cancer awareness. A legendary broadcaster too. Such a horrible shock. Love and thoughts with her husband
@JohnStapletonTV
and their son Nick.
Big rally this afternoon in Trafalgar Square of union members who are striking today. Have met teachers, doctors and civil servants - all desperate for their voices to be heard.
Watch: Fresh vegetables discarded in the field because of Brexit and Covid staff shortages. This farm in Southern England forced to throw courgettes away this week because it couldn’t get enough staff to sort, pack & ship fresh produce to supermarkets. The storage shed was full.
Britannia left Bergen at 1430 on Thursday, the violence occurred 12 hours later after a black-tie evening. It followed an afternoon of ‘patriotic’ partying on deck, with large amounts of alcohol being consumed by many guests.
Not quite the Sunday I’d planned. Many thanks to the incredible team
@PHU_NHS
for amazing care and a spot of emergency surgery. NHS at its very best. I realise there are untold pressures at the moment, but the service I received was first class and hugely appreciated. ❤️NHS
Seems like some of my tweet gets lost in translation as it crosses the Atlantic.
In the UK “Fancy Dress” is when you dress up as a character or crazy costume. “Black tie” is when you wear a tuxedo and bow tie, with ladies normally wearing an evening dress.
Hope that helps!
So desperately sad. Emily was such a vibrant ITV News colleague; a formidable story teller, a joy to work with on the road and always so stylish on screen. Taken from her family and friends far too soon.
We are devastated at the passing of our remarkable colleague Emily Morgan.
Emily was a hugely talented journalist and a much-loved friend and mentor to so many here. She will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts are with Emily’s family.
Statement:
GCSE and A level exams cancelled in May and June.
Not often my 15 year old daughter is glued to the news. But these announcements have a huge impact on all, like her, who’ve been working so hard for milestone exams. They need information fast on what this means to them.
They’re scaling up production of camouflage netting in Khmelnytskyi. Out on the streets anyone can lend a hand. And they are. In ever growing numbers.

Growing numbers of protestors moving through central Washington DC. Congregating on Black Lives Matter Plaza, leading to the White House. There’s fireworks. Not a metaphor.

Thirty-somethings are getting their first jabs this week here in Petersfield. ‘Oldies’ like me are now having the top up shot. Seems to be going much more quickly than I ever imagined possible.

Multiple families, none wearing masks, whilst shopping in

are making me furious. Blocking aisles whilst hugging & kissing having a good catch up - it’s disrespectful to the staff, and those who are still vulnerable to covid. Rant over.
The buffet area was immediately sealed off as medical teams went to help the injured. Staff told me they’d never experienced anything like it and those behind the violence were confined to a cabin for the last day of the cruise, waiting for police here in Southampton.
The violence occurred on the final leg of a week long cruise to Norway’s fjords. I became aware of trouble when officers made an emergency tannoy at 2AM for security staff to rush to the 16th floor restaurant. I went too and found passengers shocked by what they’d seen.
Am grateful for so many kind messages today. It’s all a bit overwhelming. Glad to report I’m not at death’s door, and most certainly wasn’t “rushed” to hospital. I developed an infection in my leg in Ukraine that didn’t respond to antibiotics. I sought advice from the NHS… 1/2

Am shocked and saddened to hear that Alastair Stewart is stepping down from ITV News. I grew up watching Al on ITN. Since the early 1990s he has been a supportive colleague and friend. From ‘London Tonight’ to now he has been kind, generous and always there with good advice.

A slow journey from Kyiv brought us to Khmelnytskyi - a city so far untouched by fighting. An air raid siren this afternoon heightening the concern felt by a patriotic and largely welcoming population. We started the day with a special
