I’m celebrating 20 years today of broadcasting at breakfast on @itv . Hard to believe it’s been two decades of globetrotting, hostile environments, history making stories & lots of fun. Oh, and getting up at silly o’clock. Thanks to all @GMB for making it a milestone to remember.

Aftermath of violence in Tamworth shows how a mob smashed their way into a hotel used by asylum seekers, tried to set fire to it with them and staff inside. Petrol bombs, fireworks, bricks and other missiles were thrown at police. The building is covered in racist graffiti. @GMB

One witness, part of a group involved in the trouble, explained to staff that things kicked off when another passenger appeared dressed as a clown. This upset one of their party because they’d specifically booked a cruise with no fancy dress. It led to a violent confrontation.

Ukrainians are being forced to make dramatic decisions about their futures under extreme pressure. A helping hand from Britain would be a life line to many in immediate need. Personally, I’m ashamed to learn that just 50 refugee visas for the UK have been granted so far.

I fear, very soon, all of us will be touched by the #coronavirus . My elderly Uncle died today- tested positive for #COVID19 , with underlying health issues. A friend in our village is seriously ill in hospital. Our postman too. And now dear Kate Garraway’s husband is also in ICU.

“There was blood everywhere”. Violent late night brawl in the buffet onboard @pocruises Britannia left staff who intervened injured, as passengers used furniture and plates as weapons. Witnesses told me they were so frightened they had to hide, as family groups fought.

Watch: Fresh vegetables discarded in the field because of Brexit and Covid staff shortages. This farm in Southern England forced to throw courgettes away this week because it couldn’t get enough staff to sort, pack & ship fresh produce to supermarkets. The storage shed was full.

Britannia left Bergen at 1430 on Thursday, the violence occurred 12 hours later after a black-tie evening. It followed an afternoon of ‘patriotic’ partying on deck, with large amounts of alcohol being consumed by many guests.

Seems like some of my tweet gets lost in translation as it crosses the Atlantic. In the UK “Fancy Dress” is when you dress up as a character or crazy costume. “Black tie” is when you wear a tuxedo and bow tie, with ladies normally wearing an evening dress. Hope that helps!

The buffet area was immediately sealed off as medical teams went to help the injured. Staff told me they’d never experienced anything like it and those behind the violence were confined to a cabin for the last day of the cruise, waiting for police here in Southampton.

The violence occurred on the final leg of a week long cruise to Norway’s fjords. I became aware of trouble when officers made an emergency tannoy at 2AM for security staff to rush to the 16th floor restaurant. I went too and found passengers shocked by what they’d seen.

Am grateful for so many kind messages today. It’s all a bit overwhelming. Glad to report I’m not at death’s door, and most certainly wasn’t “rushed” to hospital. I developed an infection in my leg in Ukraine that didn’t respond to antibiotics. I sought advice from the NHS… 1/2

Paparazzi photographer involved in the #HarryAndMeghan “near catastrophic car chase” tells me @GMB that it was the Sussex’s drivers that made it dangerous. He confirms a two hour timeline, but said it was very much stop start not relentless and high octane all the time.

A slow journey from Kyiv brought us to Khmelnytskyi - a city so far untouched by fighting. An air raid siren this afternoon heightening the concern felt by a patriotic and largely welcoming population. We started the day with a special @itvnews broadcast.

The dogs (and cats) of war. We’ve been out with pet rescuers, attempting to save abandoned animals in some of the worst hit areas around Kyiv. Volunteers now have 70 dogs and 60 cats in a makeshift refuge. Many are shellshocked. More @GMB
