a horrible blunder from the GM norm tournament in Darlington. I was up against one of England's brightest prospects, Sohum Lohia,who is coached by Luke Mcshane. With my last move ... Rxd4?? (played with 25 mins left) i've overlooked something quite big. which is? 🤔

I am sympathetic with Magnus Carlsen to a large extent. He might be wrong about Niemann but in general it is disgusting to play against these fucking cheats. they are horrible people and if he genuinely believes the guy cheats then it is an understandable reaction.

I think ... Nxg3 was one of the most impressive decisions in the match and demonstrated total self-belief in his calculation. Would have been so easy to get lazy there and instead he ruthlessly closes the game down. Hugely instructive

kudos must got to the incredible James Sherwin, nearly 90 years of age and still competing in otb tournaments. he played against Bobby Fischer when Fischer was a kid and recently played in the Bristol blitz scoring 6/9, and playing on the top board in the final round.

It just occurred to me that caruana could well become the first person to become world chess champion without winning a single game at classical time controls in a world championship match. If that one fact doesn't encourage changes to the match format then nothing will.

Harikrishna crushing Abdusattorov. I bet this game will be barely mentioned in the dispatches. Whenever talented junior (pragg, ergasi, firouzja, sindarov, abdu, gukesh etc) crushes older player, you never hear the end. when said overhyped player loses, you never hear about it.

Playing Anish Giri in the blitz last night, it occurred to me that elite players just seem to make everything look simple, all of the strategic decisions he seemed to take were very decisive. That's the paradox. They're so strong yet they outplay you with simple moves.
