85mph winds yesterday in the Midwest left many towns out of power (including ours) for +24h. Amazing team ⁦ @JustinWWalley ⁩ and many others to bring nine -80C freezers to the basement for back up generator. Only 7 plugs, 16 freezers. Great team effort to keep them all alive!

@DrSalinasLab RLT buffer directly. RNAeasy mini kit from Qiagen works great! Make sure to eliminate doublets by FSC-W/FSC-A and SSC-W/SSC-A , and dead cells with SYTOXRED or similar. We got really nice results for bulk RNAseq with ~5,000 cells 😃

Dear zebrafish friends, if you are thinking on getting a fluorescence scope for zebrafish, do not get LED as a light source since they don’t work well for red fluorescence. We compared side by side a LED source with Metal-halide lamp and the difference was incredible!

@jhhines2 In case it is useful, we used to feed the fish every other day once a day with flake food for a month when the University was closed every August for holidays. As far as you don’t have babies, they mated fine when we came back from vacation in September.
