For many early stage biotechs doing bioinformatics, bottleneck turns out to *not* be how many samples their RNASeq pipeline concurrently processes. Rather, speed enabled by simple data infra, well-documented APIs, & self-service tools for users. In other words, good engineering.

This is the patient experience I’d want for myself and my family, but I don’t want to pay $$$ to @onemedical @goforward for what should be default everywhere in the USA. This is also the patient experience I want to provide in the future. Big fan of the brand consistency.

john is smart + successful biotech leader, positive intent, points make sense. however, also good counter-arguments. another lens to consider: which habits, cultures, and behaviors do people learn in big biotech / pharma that impede success at a startup? which are helpful?

Do NOT jump from an MBA to try to start your own biotech company. Do NOT jump into a small start up. Do NOT skip experience in a big biotech (where you will learn from great people) and think you can develop drugs when you’ve never seen it done. 🧵7

What's wrong with showing your MVP to potential customers and validating your product idea? Turns out humans are excellent at recognizing patterns and inferring causes for the phenomena around them. This also means we are not being good at finding that there is no pattern.

Is it better to: 1. Run one #COVID19 test per specimen? or 2. Pool many specimens & use one test on all? Read how the concept behind the power of binary search algorithm could improve testing capacity by order of magnitude. cc @balajis @michaelmina_lab @zachweinberg @rtnarch

I've posted a more technical explanation of how Sample Pooling could provide a 40x improvement in Covid-19 Testing productivity. It's a big opportunity.
