Can't believe some of the backlash I've seen over this. It's not that deep. Having a policy where students walk silently for a very small proportion of the day isn't 'abusive'. It doesn't make a school 'dystopian', & it certainly isn't tantamount to denying their human rights...

It’s seriously impressive when you can hear a pin drop during a school’s silent line ups & transitions. Students moving with pace & purpose in a safe & controlled manner, pausing only to greet their teachers with ‘Good Morning/Afternoon Miss/Sir.’

@ANDYgPAUL @Jellington100m A thread full of bullies? Please. This is exactly the kind of melodramatic, hypersensitive reaction that prevents people from sharing their views. Will referred to James' views as thoughtless & vile - does that make him a bully? Yet another case of selective application.

Controversial as it may be, I'm quite anti the SENCo role. Too easy for its existence to perpetuate a departmental, fragmented, approach to supporting SEND - suggesting (despite every teacher, every child) it's one person's job to house the school's knowledge & understanding.

I think this demonstrates how deeply the perception of a 'burden' has penetrated the entire system. So long as schools/teachers (rightly or wrongly) feel a weight to bear in supporting those with SEND, we will not be able to move towards a more inclusive system.

My point here was two-fold: • Many teachers don't see 'SEN spaces' as ones they should be actively involved in, because SEN stuff is the SENCos job • A huge amount of 'SEN spaces' exclusively target SENCos, limiting engagement with the entire teaching population

Teacher Tapp clearly isn't designed to run gold standard surveys. (And I'm sure it produces some interesting insights, nonetheless) However its ambiguous qs, overlapping responses& opportunistic sampling becomes hugely problematic when it's quoted within the context of policy...

Slightly different, but I often conclude with "does that make sense?" & don't intend to stop. I don't think it suggests a lack of confidence. Rather, it: - checks understanding - provides a welcome space for questions - prompts verbal confirmation/interaction from a silent group

Another great morning at @ACoRNSoton hearing all about the National Autism Trainer Programme from the wonderful @DrRuthMoyse & @JoPavlopoulou . Supporting practitioners to move from fixing to mutuality, by placing autistic voices and experiences at the heart of services. 🙏🏽 #NATP

@AspieDeLaZouch @SendcoSolutions @SensibleSENCO I'm really surprised that someone can call themselves an 'inclusion expert' and perpetuate such problematic positioning. (I'm now keen to join the session, to understand how a title could be so poorly constructed if it doesn't reflect the sentiment of the content. 🤔)

I've often thought this - and therefore worry the popularity of the phrase is more about signalling a particular worldview than actually communicating meaning. (Because, if the latter is the intention, surely "experience" would suffice?)

@JDHaltigan "lived experience" is one of the dumbest phrases ever invented. As if you can possibly somehow have experience that you didn't live through.

@MannyAwo @Mellow_Pascoe This certainly happens in lots of schools, for the reasons you describe. I would also suggest teachers' attendance reinforces the shared responsibility for supporting progress towards outcomes - it's not just the SENCo's job.

@lfoulkesy @clayroutledge Great, accessible, article. Keenly following your current line of enquiry, as I very much agree with your developing hypotheses...

Digital developments have certainly improved accessibility. But long live hard copy books and the serenity of physical libraries... 📚🙏🏽 #AcademicTwitter

@karo_urb @drzacharywalker Really interesting, Karolina. Thanks for sharing! Funnily, I'm in the midst of moving the other way - from nearly 15 yrs outside academia into my PhD. Was motivated by a frustration with the (perceived) lack of understanding of the 'real world' from so much research.

Joe Rogan opinions aside - I find it deeply troubling that a lay-person's podcast can be critiqued so severely regarding 'misinformation', while politicians can overtly renage on promises & dance with linguistic avoidance when fact-checked, with limited (if any) recourse.

My gosh, cutting down your writing is painful... Trying to remind myself that writing is thinking - and the process refines your thoughts. The words weren't wasted. (She says, grimacing through deletions!)

Such a fantatsic LAB meeting at @ACoRNSoton today. Grateful to hear from @mum2aspergirl on the incredible pilot training being delivered to Tier 4 mental health staff. A much needed programme to improve the quality of care for autistic people in inpatient facilities.

Absolutely this. Or the more general, knee jerk, response - "what about 'SEND' pupils?" to anything and everything. Erm, which pupils?

Exactly this. Children with SEND are not a homogenous group. In fact, by their nature, they are a complex and multifaceted one. Saying eg ‘rows/ cold calling/ no hands up doesn’t work for SEND’ demonstrates a lack of understanding of what SEND provision entails.

The 2022 British Championships = Empty stadium. No mainstream TV coverage. Horrendously poor live stream. Is this what athletics has come to? #BritishAthletics #MullerUKChamps #BritishChamps
