SEND and PP students don’t need extra interventions, they need good teaching. 10 sessions of intervention will never compensate for a year or inadequate teaching. Teachers need to be supported and provided with the resources needed to achieve the above. Quality first teaching

My son did not do KS2 SATs because he could not access them. He is in the bottom 3%. Based on predicted grades at KS4 he is part of the future “33%” who will score below grade 4 based on the bell curve in the core subjects based on current and previous data. He is amazing to me.

EHCP case officers /panels might benefit from visiting schools before making imperative decisions contrary to advice from parents, teachers, SENCOs etc who are seeing the children everyday. Children are being placed based on available places rather than needs. #SEN #EHCP

I applied for a passport for my autistic son who is 5 years old. I could not get him to remain steady or look at the camera. I sent the photo and asked for reasonable adjustments as well as a copy of his EHCP . Just got a message that it has been approved. Adj in the “real world”

My nonverbal autistic son has just handed this to me. It means he needs me to make him a toast. He took it from the fridge and went to to the counter near the toaster. Nonverbal does not equate to non- communication. You have to listen with more than your ears. #autism

Unpopular opinion alert ‼️ You still need to DIFFERENTIATE for children working significantly below their peers. If you get an EHCP for a pupil working at year 2 in mainstream classroom in year 7 scaffolding more than likely is not enough. Access is important .

Parent post. SEND support is at crisis point for many families. We must do better. But I must highlight that there are some amazing teachers, teaching assistants, HOYs, HODs , Mentors, SLTs , HTs , SENCOs and other school staff doing their job well for children with SEND .

A number of black children have been sent home this year or spent time in isolation. Our hair grow out rather than down, therefore it is normal to shave the side. It is a normal hair cut. I braid my hair because it is convenient - but this is my natural hair. #hairaware

I have a close family member who works in a lovely school as a cover teacher. The school has a welcoming staff room yet for almost a year he had his lunch in his car away multiple conversations, smell of food and the possibility of someone trying to speak to him. 1/2

My 6 year old nonverbal autistic son telling me he needs toast. He always get his ingredients and hand them to me or place them in the location where they can be turned into end products . He does the same when he wants me to make his drink ( paediaSure, bottle etc) #autism

The most famous person at the local authority is called Panel. We will go to Panel. Panel has decided.. We will go back to Panel… Please employ Lawfulness! Perhaps even Accountability. Some children have never seen their EHCP coordinator in person.

I talk a lot about Jadon. Meet Ethan .. he is 4 years old autistic and nonverbal. Maybe he does not like sleep or sleep does not like him 😶 Such an affectionate little super star ⭐️ Ethan likes art , Twirlywoos, cocomelon, Hey Duggee and Bubbles 🤗

My son Jadon was reading tonight. Two years ago on this date he was 7 years old and pre-verbal! He is now 9 and reading with expression. #autism #progress #dont give up. I got him a personalised book with one of his favourite cartoons ( interest) and staring (Jadon) 🌟
