Our attending passed suddenly this morning and our program is in shock
Dr. Maenner truly cared about making us better every day, and treating every patient with respect regardless of background
Life’s too short and I’m going to take advantage of it more to honor him
Everyone at the hospital talking about this video and I’m stuck here scared for Lil Baby to get reprimanded by our attendings for having his thumb in his instrument
Would not have made it through the busiest shift of my life without this absolute gem of an attending- I got to help deliver more babies last night than I did my entire first week of ob
Got through by feeling so supported and a quick pre section hallway nap
First time I’m wearing my brand new fancy long white coat as a physician and shaking off the imposter syndrome
Almost a year after match it’s sinking in that I made it 🥼
My husband got his first interview invite at a program he’s really thrilled about in rural NE
I guess this is how to say you’re excited in anesthesia talk? 🌲 💉
Officially got to be primary on a case M4 me never would’ve believed I would scrub, let alone do more than half the case 🥰
Even got a little badge of honor on my scrubs
Night before match Monday and all I can think of is the nervousness of being a DO, applying a surgical specialty, and having my boyfriend doing the same
Getting flashbacks to my ED block hearing that magic phrase “Liz I’m going to be an anesthesiologist” 🥰
Proud of my program- normally applications are downloaded the first day and late applications aren’t looked at
My PD is changing her rules this year considering the natural disasters in Puerto Rico, Florida and across the world
Taking a break from my Twitter break to say at least 1/4 people with a uterus have had an abortion- these are your family, friends, co-workers, and people you meet in your life
Banning abortions does not mean they’ll stop happening, it means more people will die as a result
Attending’s wise words “all ObGyns fall into 2 groups: those who have prolapsed a cord, and those who have yet to prolapse a cord”
Officially rode the bed and joined the former group
#obgyntwitter
Today is an emotional day for
#obgyn
applicants: wishing you the needed support to get through today
I was in the group that got less interviews than expected but I’m at a program I love and working to apply to fellowship soon
It may not be the day you expect but y’all got this
It’s all really happening!
Found my new apartment on Long Island and the best strip mall bagel shop a gal could dream of 🥯
Did a little drive by of the hospital I think I’m going to love it here
Feel like the new kid starting at the big high school 😬
Clothes laid out, bag packed, alarm set
So nervous but ready to make my new program proud for taking a chance on transfer me
#firstdayofschool
Of course the ObGyn resident would stumble upon a cow randomly giving birth on the way to cliffs of moher and the whole tour group stopping to watch
The babies find me even on vacation
Thank you to everyone for your kind words- Dr. Maenner was a resident where I was delivered and we truly thought he delivered me until we found the delivery summary. He made me fall in love with my program on interview day. Very special man I’m happy to know and learn from
Find yourself a residency program with wellness days! Spending my first wellness Thursday getting all comfy cozy for nap time with Zelda and ready to watch the storm ⛈
One of the biggest changes with my new job is having a strict protected hour for lunch and being encouraged to take it
Other massive change: good halal cart
A patient personally stopped and dropped off these thank you treats for me personally after helping with her case
Literally crying in the club feeling so appreciated for the minimal work I did
It’s official I’m transferring programs! It’s truly unprecedented and I couldn’t do it without the most wonderful support system. Stony Brook thank you for taking a chance on me and letting me be your first DO
New year, new program, New York, new me 🥂
@Zoe_Beausoleil
Had a friend on her ED block nervously report to the attending that one pupil was fixed… luckily she didn’t lie because the patient had a glass eye!
My husband just hit the big submit button on his chronic pain fellowship apps 🎉
Programs I’ve never met anyone this passionate about pain management and can make a mean butter chicken you’re going to want to take this guy
I knew it was too good to be true
My new co residents have been so kind and welcoming, reaching out to help with my transition
But I just learned they use cerner
Not lost on me the difference in demographics of the surgery track vs medicine track presentation rooms at our institution med ed day
As much as we talk about how far we’ve come we still have a long way to go
My first big project as a resident got accepted to
@urogynsociety
and as an oral presentation 😭
Thank you to the best research mentor
@jfitzgeraldMD
who truly made this happen
Coming for you this fall
#Portland
L&D is kicking my ass but I got some feedback from a senior resident that I’m handling the transition with poise and grace
It truly meant so much and I told her she made my week 🥰
Still learning my new home and slowly finding where the bathroom is but we’re doing it
Got to scrub in the coolest urogyn case I’ve ever seen and thought of superstar
@otrowers_md
when I got to help set up the lone star vaginal retractor 🥰
Good luck to all the
#OBGYNmatch2022
applicants tomorrow!! I had some highs and some lows but it truly all worked out in the end
My program will be releasing tomorrow and happy to help if anyone has questions/needs advice/wants a virtual hug- you all got this!
Intern year is waking up early, leaving in the dark with your cat screaming, scarfing down food during the 15 minutes between cases, consult 10 minutes before sign out… and skipping the gym to eat a vegetable, watching reality tv and stress buying a FLF. Happy Monday from gyn 🎉
Probably got more sleep on my last 24 than I did the night before
#obgynmatch
interview invites went out
Tomorrow is a big, emotional day that you all worked hard for- wishing the best for everyone and as much sleep as you can get
Think I found my new home in my city for residency! This apartment is updated and stunning, close to hospital and windows for days for my plants. Wild how everyone is coming together not even a week after match day
Thank you
@urogynsociety
for letting us present our work that we’re so proud of
Hope our app helps advance practice and research for
#pfd
Huge kudos to
@jfitzgeraldMD
for helping get this resident get to this stage, cannot say enough about her mentorship and guidance
Actually thankful for a case delay- onc attending has time to show me how she sets up her room, chooses her instruments, and optimizes her operating time
Super important things I wish we had more formal education on
On graduation eve I’m so thankful for the school that took a chance on me(twice!) and gave me the opportunity to achieve my dream job
Elizabeth Brehman, DO, MS coming at you tomorrow 🎉
To my loyal 5 fans we’re back 🎉
SURPRISE I’ve left ObGyn with goals of matching into preventive medicine this cycle
I’ve found my people and I just need to find my new home
Woman’s health will still be a focus and I couldn’t be more excited to begin this journey ❤️
Finally back after a little hiatus- nights are hard, especially as the only resident on, but starting to get my sea legs
Some of my hardest days of residency but taking it day by day
Learned to focus while everything else is chaotic during years of competitive sports and it’s really come in handy on L&D so far
It also means today I didn’t notice a new trainee passed out while my attending and I did a C-section today
You win some, you lose some 🤔
Thank you
@CFerrandoMD
and
@FPMRS
for one of the best lectures I’ve seen this year on a topic I’ve had little exposure to in residency so far
Reaffirmed urogyn as an integral part of this field and hopefully part of my future practice
Feeling super proud for passing my first creog, especially since I shouldn’t have done this well considering my step 1 score and how hard intern year is
Much needed confidence boost
Favorite icebreaker question meeting all the staff and patients at my hospital: favorite bagel on Long Island
Everyone loves it and I get to learn about my new home
Delivered her baby yesterday, now trying a patient’s rec it’s 10/10
In the home stretch of my 24 as the only resident 🌅
I’ve come a long way from where I started and it took this call for me to really see it- this intern is starting to find her feet and take on the storms that come with a little more confidence
The most productive but also the most stressful morning
Found out my training timeline will be extended but I’m ready to face these new changes with a good attitude and thankfulness for the incredible opportunity with a PD who already is my advocate and believes in me
Came out of safety rounds to a very excited PD- as of 9:01 we have a very large pool of qualified applicants to our née but mighty program
Can’t wait to meet some of you at interviews this year and please reach out if you have any questions about our program
With the next match coming up I want to pay it forward, especially to the
#URiM
students applying into ObGyn
Have some time to review personal statements- can commit to 10 and open back up after those look good!
Slide in the DMs and encourage other
