I had a similar experience with Dr Fauci when I interviewed him for @JAMA_current clinical reviews when we produced our show on the discovery of #AIDS . Washington DC was shutdown for a severe snow storm-He showed up to do our interview and was the only person in the NIH building

13 years ago, I emailed Dr. Fauci out of the blue to ask if I might interview him for my undergrad thesis. He invited me to his office, where he answered all my questions. When I sent him the thesis, HE READ THE WHOLE THING (see his overly effusive review below). Who does that?!

To me, how single-payer will be administered is the Achilles heel of the concept. It is a great idea but not one that can be implemented. I say this after a 28-year career in the VA, many years of which I was in leadership positions. It just does not work...

@dhume Not exactly a superpower. The number of papers published means little. Most of it reports very low quality science. I can say this as someone who has worked a great deal with Chinese investigators trying to help them publish acceptable science.

CA takes first step to create single-payer health that would eliminate employer-provided insurance & Medicare. Single-payer rations care severely, incl patients waiting so long for imaging tumors double, & denial of cataract surgery. , @HooverInst

The FDA has to do something so OK. But without a placebo comparator cannot say there is a 35% improvement. Lots of reasons comparing high to low antibody levels in the serum could yield spurious results.

Plasma transfusion can reduce mortality rate by as much as 35%. “Patients who received plasma...are under the age of 80 and not on mechanical ventilation benefited the most, with a 35% improvement in survival 30 days after receiving the transfusion.”
