The L'pool and Manchester Railway. First Edge Hill station/'moorish arch'. Right tunnel goes to Crown St. passenger station in distance. Middle to docks at Wapping. Left local storage. Steam locos must stop here and carriages go back and forth to city by gravity or steam cable.

Reconstruction of 'Mulberry', the first ship to leave Liverpool's Old Dock in 1715. (Where Liverpool One is today). The ship was owned by Bryan Blundell. Master Mariner, slave trade participant and one time Mayor. He is famous for founding Blue Coat school two years later.

Lime Street Story, 4. What happened next? 1868: Old facade is demolished. Turner's shed and Tite's building both cut back for the Railway Hotel build. much housing demolition and a huge cutting to Copperas Hill gouged out of rock. A new shed (today's North shed) is begun.

Lime Street Station; what happened next? Mid-1870s. Waterhouse's Railway hotel is complete, as is the North shed (now largest such structure in the world). The station we know today emerges. Land being cleared to re-route Skelhorne St. and excavate for the South shed to come

4/15 The surprising result of β€˜what came before St. George’s Hall’. 1823 Liverpool. A mature Georgian township with mills, infirmary, seaman’s hospital and asylum. Sources allow good accuracy in a view not seen since then (only two years after Napoleon’s death). #ArchMoL23

The space still exists today with intact tunnels and excavated 'rooms' in the side of the cutting. Despite it and Crown St. being the first steam railway passenger stations in the world, it lies derelict.
